i was genuinely scared when i was driving from NYC to niagra falls and watching the temperature gauge dropping to below zero. it also started very lightly snowing. i have no experience driving in icy or snowy roads so dont know anything about how to drive on it.
1. Always slam on the brakes when going into turns, it makes your car way easier to control.
2. Never keep a consistent speed. Try to alternate between 10-35 mph below the speed limit especially if there are several cars behind you.
3. Try and drive as close as possible to the person in front of you; your wheels will get caught in their jet-stream and it'll help keep you in control and also saves on fuel
4. Use your high beams at all times; the brighter the lights the easier it is to see through the thick snow
5. Chains are for the weak and scared, if you see chain advisories ignore them especially if you have 4WD, those things can drive through anything
6. Try and change lanes as much as possible to cut up the snow for other drivers and so the snow doesnt get packed down into grooves causing other drivers to get stuck
7. If you get stuck, floor the gas, the heat and friction will melt the snow and you'll lurch up out of it
