Errol Spence-Alejandro Barrera on November 28, PBC

Posted by: Random Hits on 10/29/2015 .

DALLAS - Super welterweight world champion Jermall Charlo (22-0, 17 KOs) will defend his title in his home state against "Silky" Wilky Campfort (21-1, 12 KOs) as Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC comes to The Bomb Factory in Dallas Saturday, November 28. Televised coverage begins at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT.

Also featured, Dallas-native and 2012 Olympian Errol "The Truth" Spence Jr. (18-0, 15 KOs) takes on Mexico's Alejandro "El Elegido" Barrera (28-2, 18 KOs) in a 12-round contest.

"I haven't stepped out of the gym since I won the title," said Charlo. "You get the title, you defend it. That's the motto. I know Campfort is hungry and at the top of his game, but I've been training just as hard, if not harder, to defend my title. It took everything I have to get here and it's going to take everything I have to remain here."

"I am ready to fight," said Campfort. "I am not in this business to run. I'm not afraif of anybody. I'm coming to win a world title and achieve my dream. Charlo better not underestimate me, because I have only victory on my mind."

"I'm excited for another opportunity to prove that I'm the real deal and I'm ready for any gut that's put in front of me," said Spence Jr. "This will be my first time fighting in my hometown and I'm ready to put on a show for Dallas. November 28, it's going to be another man down."

"This is a great opportunity to showcase my skills on a big stage," said Barrera. "I am always in great shape and I plan on giving the fans a great fight. November 28 I will announce myself to the world with a great performance."

The November 28 event features two rising stars in the sport, both from Texas as they showcase their skills on Thanksgiving weekend. The undefeated Charlo will be defending his world title for the first time while the undefeated Spence Jr. looks to make another impressive statement in his young career that has many calling him a future world champion.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Leija*Battah Promotions, are priced at $100, $85, $45 and $25, not including applicable fees, and are on sale now. Seating in suites and tables for groups is also available. To purchase tickets visit Ticketfly | Buy Tickets , The Bomb Factory or by emailing [email protected] . Tickets can also be purchased by calling TicketFly at (877) 987-6487, Leija Battah Promotions at (210) 979-3302 or by visiting The Bomb Factory box office.

A newly crowned champion at 24-years-old, Charlo grabbed his title with a dominant third-round stoppage of Cornelius Bundrage in September. Residing in Houston, Charlo fights in his home state for the first time since a 2013 stoppage of Orlando Lora. Charlo built up his resume in 2014 with dominant victories over Hector Munoz, Norberto Gonzalez and Lenny Bottai before shutting out Michael Finney in March leading up to his world title fight.

Born in Haiti but fighting out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Campfort has not lost since his second pro fight in 2009. The 30-year-old has fought professionally in the U.S., Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic and his native-Haiti. He's won six fights since the beginning of 2014 including stoppages of Milton Nunez and Devon Moncrieffe. In his last contest he stopped Ronald Montes in the second round on September 18.

A member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team who boasted a highly decorated amateur career, the 25-year-old Spence Jr.will look to put on a show in front of his hometown Dallas crowd. Spence Jr. is widely regarded as one of the top rising prospects in the sport and was dominant in his PBC debut on April 11 as he defeated Samuel Vargas by fourth-round knockout and he followed that up by stopping Phil Lo Greco in the third round on June 20. Most recently, Spence Jr. recorded a flawless performance in his win over South African Chris van Heerden with an eighth-round stoppage on September 11.

Fighting out of Monterrey, Mexico, Barrera will be fighting in the U.S. for the second time in his career after picking up a victory over John Mackey in 2012. The 29-year-old won his first 20 bouts after turning pro in 2007 and enters this fight with three straight victories including triumphs over Juan Montiel and Jose De Jesus Macias in 2015.

Exclusive: No Frampton unification unless Quigg is promoted, say IBF

A blockbuster deal between super-bantamweight champion’s Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg for February 2016 is on the verge of finally being completed following painstaking negotiations involving both camps.

Despite some reports that suggest the fight is a done deal, Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hearn told WBN on Thursday that contracts had yet to be signed as final points of the respective paperwork are worked out.

One sticking point could be the fact that Quigg remains the WBA ‘regular’ champion, which means the Bury man is unable to participate in a two-belt battle. The way around this for Hearn and Frampton’s handler Barry McGuigan is to lobby for Quigg to be bumped up to ‘super’ title status currently held by Guillermo Rigondeaux as the IBF are fiercely adamant on their current stance.

“We will not even consider a unification for Carl Frampton unless Scott Quigg is the ‘super’ champion,” IBF Chairman Lindsey Tucker exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Some of the organizations (the WBA) have multiple champions and we will only unify with highest ranked champion (currently Rigondeaux),” he added.

Seeing how the Cuban was recently stripped by the WBO, there may be a good chance Rigondeaux could suffer a similar fate with the WBA, and therefore, leave the door open for Quigg to be promoted in the nick of time.

That would mean IBF belt holder Frampton and fellow titlist Quigg would both have their respective belts on the line when the pair collide in Manchester early next year, adding even more spice to an already mammoth occasion for the UK fans.

Her management probably paid to get on the cover, plus I think UFC Magazine is no more I believe so they need ways to promote her upcoming fight. But if the Ring doesn't want to be taken lightly they need to stop that shit now

Dan Rafael chat wrap 10/30:

- GGG vs. Tureano is just speculation. It certainly is possible because he is GGG's mandatory, but nothing will happen until 10 days after the Cotto-Canelo fight, because that is the deadline when the winner has to decide whether to go into negotiations vs. GGG or vacate the belt.
- The Canelo/Cotto winner will have the negotiating advantage vs. GGG in their mandatory fight, however if GGG's side doesn't want to agree to anything they can just let the fight go to a purse bid and Canelo/Cotto's negotiation demands won't matter. In a purse bid GGG would likely get 40-45% of the purse split, because he is interim champion.
- According to CompuBox, GGG is one of the better defensive fighters they have ever tracked.
- RJJ is not tarnishing his legacy, but would like to see him retire.
- Manny and Floyd are absolutely not negotiating.
- One of the hallmark criticisms people point to in Floyd's career is many of his best opponents were not in their prime.
- Chances Crawford-Pacquiao happens? 50/50 right now. Arum wants it, but not sure Freddie/Pacquiao/Koncz want it.
- Crawford said if he can't fight Pacquiao, he would like to fight Postol. Personally does not think this happens immediately as the demand is low and no real money in it yet.
- Will GGG ever fight Ward? Possibly, but it would be a few years from now.
- Roman Gonzalez might get to headline his own card if he does a rematch with Estrada.
- PBC is planning to still have a Dec. 12 card (with Porter-Thurman being moved). No details yet.
- Thurman backing out is untrue, from what he has heard. His sources tell him Thurman-Porter will be on Jan. 23 to be the first main event on the new Fox prime time show.
- Peter Nelson (VP of HBO Sports) is viewed as a potential replacement for Hershman, as he is a major figure in the current HBO boxing business.
- Overall Hershman did a good job at HBO. The last 2 years for HBO boxing has probably been the "smoothest sailing" ever.
- Hershman told him he had been thinking about moving on for the past few months and by leaving at the end of the year most of the things he was working on are in action, and HBO can easily move forward without him.
- If Nelson gets promoted, does not see any change between HBO and PBC. They are still rivals/enemies.
- Who he voted for the boxing HOF (3 votes): Camacho, Vasquez Sr., and Genaro Hernandez (best 130 pounder in the 90's).
- Buy or sell Rios vs. Bradley becomes a brawl? Buy.
- Crawford and Bradley are good friends and Crawford said he would not fight him.
- Loves the Jennings vs. Ortiz fight and believes the winner would absolutely give Wilder some problems.
- Glowacki vs. Huck is his current FOTY. No talks of a rematch.
- Rosado vs. Clottey will be at 158.
- As long as Ward and Kovalev keep winning, Ward vs. Kovalev is a lock to happen. They have contracts in place agreeing to fight (HBO learned their lesson from Stevenson-Kovalev).
- Showtime is working on a deal to put Ruslan's fight on ShoExtreme.
- Picking Povetkin to beat Wach. Details are not finalized, but fight likely only available in the US via internet PPV.
- HBO was interested in televising Lemieux-N'Dam, but they did not have an immediate opening in their schedule and the IBF had given GB a deadline to make the fight happen.
- The Gonzalez vs. Shabranskyy fight will be a fun one.
- Did not score Peterson vs. Diaz, but thought just from watching it Diaz probably won.
- The Charlo and Spence card is very poor. PBC has lots of good opponents they could face, yet put them in against nobodies who have only fought nobodies.
- PBC has not even scraped the surface of all the good matchups they could make. Not sure why they haven't started pushing for better fights.
- Grade for PBC fight schedule in 2015? B-.
- Arthur Abraham for the HOF? He could see it, but doesn't think so.
- Abraham has had a better career than Sturm.
- Sadam Ali's career is run by his father and he knows nothing about the boxing business. He could have taken 100k step aside money, but they decided not to.
- Worst cuts he has seen? Vitali's eye vs. Lennox and Lujan's ear vs. Margarito. Add Barrios' hanging lip.
- Yunieski Gonzalez is more likely an opponent for Ward than Kovalev, as Kovalev will likely have to face a mandatory next year.
- If Canelo can keep making a lower weight he should keep doing it and use it to his advantage, rather than jump to MW if he doesn't want to.
- Does not care who Adonis faces next because his recent competition is a pathetic joke. Would enjoy like a Fonfara rematch.
- Believes that Floyd may have taken more risks when picking opponents had he lost earlier in his career.
- Biggest robbery he has witnessed in person (besides Pacquiao-Bradley 1)? Casamayor-Santa Cruz.
- Hatton vs. Erik Morales? Hatton.
- Canelo is everything you want in a fighter. He sells tickets, is good, exciting, has a good fan base, gets good ratings, and fights good opponents.
- Fan wrote in that Broner is having another kid, nicknamed him About Babies. (Which Ring member was this?)
- Judah's fight will be on CBS Sports Net.
- Cotto vs. Hatton? Cotto.
- Shane can say whatever he wants, but the WBO was not going to sanction him to fight Liam Smith.
- Ronda Rousey should not be on the cover of Ring magazine, she is not a boxer.
- Kovalev vs. Pascal 2? Kovalev wins easier than the first fight.
- How many times will GGG fight in 2016? 3.
- Rumor that Arreola will be facing Travis Kauffman.
- Best atmosphere's for fights this year? Canelo-Kirkland, GGG-Monroe, and GGG-Lemieux. Cotto-Canelo will be a great one.
- Betting favorite if Canelo and GGG fought? Probably GGG.
- Gamboa is currently tangled in contract issues with the bankruptcy of 50 Cent's promotional company.

The cover says "she concurred MMA. Will boxing be next?" or something along those lines which obviously would never happen for numerous reasons. It's really silly for The Ring to pulls stuff like that, everyone knows she's not going into boxing and why would she when she has such a good thing going for her with the UFC. Its just a pathetic excuse to try and sell some magazines, which I doubt even worked. People are talking about it yeah but its not going to trick someone into buying a subscription lol

I'm not complaining ring magazine did for shock and awe and this is creating a buzz just like they did with putting roman Gonzales as the #1 p4p boxer
They aren't the only ones that have Gonzalez #1 though, that dude is legit and his rise has come at the absolute perfect time since Mayweather retired, Pacquiao is long past his best days and is about to retire, Ward has only fought Paul Smith in the last 2.5 years, Golovkin and Kovalev don't quite have the resumes yet, and everyone else like Canelo aren't there either. And then there is Roman Gonzalez - undefeated, winning championships in multiple weight classes, destroying solid opposition and has amazing skills inside the ring. Perfect timing.
