why? Mannheim was right in the middle of lots of fun places. 15 minutes from Heidelberg, 45 minutes from Frankfurt, 45 minutes from Kaiserslautern and all the local Mannheim girls were slutty for soldiers lol

the Mannheim night life it self wasn't as good as a lot of places, but it was decent.

Workers claim Wal-Mart closed California store in retaliation

Some employees accused Wal-Mart Stores Inc on Friday of closing a location in the Los Angeles area for six months in retaliation for workers demanding for better wages and benefits.

The largest U.S. retailer denied the accusation, saying it was temporarily closing five stores in four states to address recurring plumbing problems. The closures include a location in Pico Rivera, California, that has been a center of protests by workers in recent years.

A group of employees backed by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union described the move as “retaliatory” in a statement and said it would hold a news conference on Monday to lay out its case. Wal-Mart had not requested any city plumbing permits for the Pico Rivera store, the workers and city officials said.

Pico Rivera City Manager Rene Bobadilla described the sudden manner in which the company closed the store as “abnormal” but said the city had offered its help to expedite the work needed to be done to get the store open again.

“It’s the first time I’ve encountered this. It is not a normal thing to happen,” Bobadilla said. He declined to comment further on Wal-Mart’s actions. “The only fact is they are saying they have a sewer problem and they are going to be closed for six months.”

Bobadilla said he was focused on helping the 533 employees impacted by the closure to find work and services.

Wal-Mart said in an emailed statement that it made the decision to close the Pico Rivera location and four other stores because they all required extensive repairs.

“Our goal, of course, as a business is to keep our stores open and serving customers,” the company said. “We understand this decision has been difficult on our associates and our customers and we aim to reopen these stores as soon as these issues are resolved and improvements are made.”

Wal-Mart recently announced plans to hike its minimum hourly wage to at least $9 an hour nationally as part of a $1 billion investment in better pay and benefits for its employees. That move sparked several other retailers to raise wages, although labor advocates have said they want more.

They've done this for years. 10 years ago I remember a Wal-Mart had some workers organize and attempt to go on strike and they just shut that bitch down.

It's amazing we are again living in a time where anti-union and anti-workers is blatantly acceptable and these companies go without being punished or any accountability at all. And the sad part is the working class doesn't even care or understand the ramifications. While people are saying "well it's Wal-Mart employees, who cares" they don't understand that by allowing this type of practice it ends up effecting the working class as a whole, not just isolated to Wal-Mart.

I just went to Walmart yesterday and found everything I needed for a cheaper price. I love it.

I would be OK with labor unions if they distributed itemized records of what they actually do with all those million$ and million$ of membership dues that the average worker never sees used for their benefit. Labor unions served their purpose in the last century, modern unions are just ponzi schemes feeding off the working class.

The problem is they don't sell it inside the store anymore, and they also had the best price on it for only 39 dollars and Big 5 sells it for 55 dollars.

I could order it from a lot of different places, but I wanted to buy it for 39 dollars instead of paying 55 bones somewhere else.

it seems like since nafta started the countrys giant corporations are even more anti-union and anti-worker. i remember when there was a fire at a walmart factory last year and it killed all the workers inside. it would have cost walmart a measly $2 million to repair it. walmart escaped any charges or fines. that $2 million is only 3 minutes of yearly walmart revenue


non-union workers who go on strike should have job protection. even jobs like fast food or ditch diggers deserve protection. the usa is the most anti-union nation on the planet. less careers have paid days off than even 5 years ago. i think we are the only country that doesnt have paid maternity leave

I digg it...

I only asked because every store sells different shit even tho it may not seem like it.....where as they sell everything online, and get that shit sent to the store via "site-to-store" within a few days.
