I understand what you're saying, at the same time this is only true because we allow it to be. Granted, the popular vote does not decide the election, the electoral college does, however, the electoral college usually aligns with the will of the populace. Mainly why people vote along party lines is because either they are not an informed voter or play the lesser of two evils line (voters who purposefully vote against their registered party lines would be considered outlier points of data and do not make enough of a difference in the overall count). The average voter spends almost no time researching potential candidates and their political histories and platforms. It is a vote of convenience, not confidence. We cannot rely on the school systems, government branches or biased media outlets, overrun with republicans and democrats, to educate and inform the voters- they want the voters to vote republican or democrat. All real change requires struggle and overcoming obstacles, and it never occurs overnight- history proves it. Third party politics is not new it has been relevant and present throughout, minimized by republicans and democrats.

I agree. I didn't mean that I only vote for Democrats, just that in the presidential elections I've been able to vote in (since 2004) the Democrat's candidate has always been more appealing to me than the GOP candidate. I identify mostly with a candidate like Ron Paul, but would rather just vote for the Democrat to keep a Republican out of office.
I only do that for president though, for all other elected positions I vote as you suggested.

Voter ID laws are a crock of shit for sure.
I've seen what voting locally in my city and state can do (mostly initiative wise admittedly) but I do think that local and state officials do play a role in how things can turn out locally and statewide as well. To an extent as I said.
We will have to just agree to disagree and I always respect your opinion and input. If you have any good reading I can do on arguments on how it's obsolete on a local and state level please share them. Thanks breh.

No, it's pretty much the entire process. It doesn't matter if it's a two party system or a two hundred party system. It doesn't matter about an electoral vote. The FACT is we aren't a democracy or republic but a hegemony, oligarchy, plutocracy and corporatocracy.
And WHO they voted FOR doesn't matter. Marking an x next to a name, or punching a hole next to a name, does nothing but let them know how many sheep are still ready to be led to the slaughter.
To anyone who endorses voting I have a couple of simple questions to ask:
1. Do you believe voting is an investment in your future? If so, where is your return on investment?
2. Do you believe the Elite of this country, and those abroad, will allow the average joe to decide the leadership of the richest and most advanced country in all of history by marking x or punching a hole next to a name?
