lol I'll be honest man, I don't follow boxing as close as I'd like to be able to. 2-0-Sixx and naner12 got me trumped as far as boxing knowledge these days. We don't always agree and there are different levels of understanding as far as boxing as concerned, but I'd be the first guy to admit that I'm not the most knowledgeable fan out there. I have thought about writing some articles again though after I graduate in November if I have time to do so, if I decide not to go to school for my Master's degree

Go for that masters if you're getting it paid for. Fuck student loans though!
the biggest thing is, I'm tired of having that black cloud of homework hanging over my head. I've been going to school for the last 3.5 years while holding down a family, a full time job, and going to school full time a good portion of the time. And I'm about to have my 3rd kid as if my schedule wasn't full enough.

It would depend on what your job/field is but it's likely to work out in the end as long as your current job is supporting your cause. I wouldn't have gone back had my company not offered to pay for it and even still I'm in no rush to get it done.

I'm part timing school and cut myself off from everything when I first started going back just to get in the rhythm of things but it's not so bad anymore. I also don't have kids to deal with and my girl is an overnight ICU nurse and she usually works weekends cause she gets a shift bonus so I can watch boxing in peace. Plus my job consists of travelling a good bit so I watch a lot of boxing while I'm sitting in random hotels in shithole places throughout Louisiana.

I have a 6 year old and a 4 year old, and I've literally been in school damn near the whole time my youngest son has been alive. And my job isn't helping with my tuition at all either. I really want to enjoy my time with my family. But I hope to go for my master's, but I might put it off for awhile. I've been going full time for a year straight and finished 40 credits in the last 14 months.

Deontay Wilder and Linares added to Porter-Brook card on August 16th

jorge linares deontay wilder By Scott Gilfoid: The August 16th Shawn Porter vs. Kell Brook Showtime fight card just got a lot better with #1 WBC heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (31-0, KOs) added to it to beef it up. Lightweight contender Jorge Linares (36-3, 23 KOs) has also been added to the card against an opponent still to be determined, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. It’s unknown if the Deontay and Linares fights will make it onto the Showtime broadcast. They already have three good fights on the card that are scheduled to be televised.

Deontay, 6’7″, is waiting for a title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne for later on this year, but now that Stiverne has a hand injury, it’s unknown when that fight will happen. Deontay, his adviser Al Haymon and Golden Boy Promotions don’t want to let him sit back and get rusty waiting for Stiverne’s injured hand to heal.

With an injury like that, it’s quite possible that it might take until 2015 to heal up. In that case, one would hope that the World Boxing Council does the right thing in giving Stiverne the old emeritus champion in recess title that they give to injured fighters that can’t defend their titles in a timely fashion. The last thing that the boxing world needs is another heavyweight champion that sits on his title for over a year without defending it due to injuries, like we saw with former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.

There’s no word about who Deontay will be facing as of yet, but it’s likely to be a good solid 2nd tier guy that can be pulled in at the last second. Deontay has got the talent to take on a top level fighter like Alexander Ustinov if need be, but it’s not likely that Golden Boy or Haymon would want to have him fighting a guy that he’d not prepared for. It would be a great fight though to have two 6’7″ giant heavyweights throwing bombs at each other. It would give the boxing world a chance to see the difference between Deontay and Kubrat Pulev. It took Pulev 11 rounds to stop Ustinov in 2012, when Ustinov wasn’t as in shape as he is now.

Deontay hasn’t fought since he blew away Malik Scott by 1st round knockout last

Linares hasn’t fought since last March when he defeated Nihito Arakawa by a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision. He looked good in that fight and showed excellent power even though he didn’t get the KO.

Also on the Porter-Brook card are the following fights:

Sakio Bika vs. Anthony Dirrell

Omar Figueroa vs. Daniel Estrada

Luke Campbell vs. TBA

Callum Smith vs. TBA

MAIN EVENTS DROPS STEVENSON-KOVALEV LAWSUIT WITHOUT PREJUDICE
By Press Release | August 04, 2014
MAIN EVENTS DROPS STEVENSON-KOVALEV LAWSUIT WITHOUT PREJUDICE

Having achieved its goal of making a light heavyweight unification fight for Sergey Kovalev, Main Events filed paperwork in the Southern District of New York today formally dropping their lawsuit against Groupe Yvon Michel, Inc., Yvon Michel, Adonis Stevenson, Al Haymon, Showtime, Golden Boy Promotions, Inc., and Richard Schaefer. With the announcement of the upcoming unification bout between WBO Light Heavyweight Champion Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) and WBA/IBF Light Heavyweight Champion Bernard "The Alien" Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs), Main Events succeeded in obtaining the result it sought for Kovalev.

Main Events filed the lawsuit in April after Groupe Yvon Michel and Stevenson failed to honor an agreement for a scheduled bout between Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev and WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Adonis "Superman" Stevenson (24-1, 20 KOs). Now that Kovalev is scheduled for a unification bout with Hopkins, Main Events decided to drop the suit without prejudice, retaining the right to reinstate the litigation in the event the fight between Hopkins and Kovalev does not proceed as scheduled.

Main Events' CEO Kathy Duva said, "The purpose of the lawsuit was to secure a unification bout for Sergey and allow him to face the top competition in the light heavyweight division. By signing on with Hopkins and Golden Boy Promotions for a three-title unification bout, Main Events secured the big fight that Sergey wanted. We no longer have damages, so we will not proceed with the litigation at this time."

This is bad news..

Salford boxer Jamie Moore has been shot in Marbella.

The 35-year-old is understood to have been hit in both legs.

Moore, the former European light-middleweight champion, was in Spain working at a gym owned by boxer, Matthew Macklin, who he is training.

It is understood Moore, from Walkden, has now left hospital after treatment.

Moore, highly regarded in the sport, was on the verge of a WBC title shot, in 2009, but decided to quit the sport in 2010 on medical grounds.

Moore is a former two-time British light-middleweight champion and Commonwealth champion.

A source said: “It would appear he was out and about, not at the gym, when he was shot.”

A spokesman for the Foreign Office confirmed that a British national had been shot over the weekend.

Moore was helping prepare Mackin for a fight in Dublin later this month against Argentinian, Jorge Sebastian-Heiland for the WBC international middleweight title.

As well as a working as a trainer Moore has worked as a TV commentator. He is a friend of former boxer, Ricky Hatton. Moore has spoken at several charity events and fundraising dinners for boxers’ whose careers have been cut short by injury.

Ricky Hatton said: "I'm devastated by this news. Jamie is a great pal of mine and my thoughts are, of course, today with him and his family."

He's a great battler and if anyone's going to pull through in hospital it'll be him."

Moore won a legendary fight with Macklin in 2006 at the George Carnell Leisure Centre in Davyhulme in the ‘fight of the year’.

He won 32 of 37 bouts with 23 being knockouts.

He boxed as an amateur before turning professional in 1999.

At the time of his retirement Moore said:“In the last three years I have had three letters from the British Boxing Board of Control declaring that there had been a slight change in my brain scan, although I was medically fit to box.

“After receiving the third letter recently I decided to seek an independent opinion and was advised that I should retire.

“That means it’s time to move on in life and pack away my gloves and gum-shield for good.”

One of Moore’s most memorable moments came last year in a three-round knockout victory over Michele Piccirillo for the European belt.

He will also be remembered for his domestic fights with Matthew Macklin, Michael Jones and Ryan Rhodes.

Local Spanish police are investigating the shooting So far there have been no arrests.

Here we go again, Andre Ward suing his promoter for the fourth time, after losing the first three:

Andre Ward sues Goossen, alleging Ali Act violations - Boxing News

This guy is really killing his own career. The worst thing you can do in boxing is not fight and let people forget about you. He'll be dropped as #2 p4p fighter by being inactive for over a year. How's he going to get the big fights he wants if he's irrelevant?

Khan: Pacquiao would be harder fight than Mayweather
August 5th, 2014 | Post Comment - 14 Comments
0Share 0 0Share 0Tweet

manny pacquiao floyd mayweather jr amir khan By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) has never faced Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao, but he figures that Pacquiao would be the tougher fight for him because of his aggressiveness.

Khan thinks that the two fighters are getting older and will need to be replaced soon. While Khan doesn’t mention himself as the guy that will ultimately replacing them, it seems that’s something he’s hoping for.

Khan can’t really test his theory about Pacquiao being tougher than Mayweather, because he’s not had any luck in getting either of them in the ring to face him. It could be that Khan hasn’t done enough since his back to back losses to Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson, or it just might his style of fighting that is keeping him from getting those fights.

Mayweather and Pacquiao might not be excited about fighting a guy that puts his opponents in head-locks and pulls down on their heads when they try to get in position to throw a punch.

Khan ties up his opponents like clockwork when they attempt to get off their punches, and I’m not so sure that those two superstars are going to want to have Khan holding them all night. There’s nothing worse for a superstar to face than a clincher, because there’s no way they can shine against a guy that’s got a hold of them 24/7.

“Boxing is all about timing and Manny and Floyd are getting older,” Khan said to theguardian.com. “Someone has to take their place. Mayweather would be a very technical fight, like a game of chess. But I think Manny would be harder. He’s much more aggressive and it would be more intense. But with my trainer Virgil Hunter I’m a much better and more defensive fighter.”

Khan goes on to say that he’s having problems getting a top tier fighter to face him, which is surprising given that Keith Thurman has made it clear for ages that he’d be interested in facing Khan. Shawn Porter would likely be interested in facing Khan too after he gets past Kell Brook on August 16th.

You can’t really take Khan serious as an opponent for either Mayweather or Pacquiao when he’s being matched up against the likes of Carlos Molina, Julio Diaz and Luis Collazo. There’s nothing wrong with those guys if Khan had fought them 10 years ago when they were still relevant, in terms of Diaz and Collazo. But with Khan facing them now, it just looks like he’s still taking tune-ups after his losses to Garcia and Peterson.

If Khan really wants to get Mayweather and Pacquiao into the ring, he’s got to tell Golden Boy Promotions and Al Haymon to step up the level of his opposition to put him in with Thurman and Porter. If they’re not up for that, then Khan has no reason to complain about not being able to get fights against Mayweather and Pacquiao. The answer is painfully obvious. Khan isn’t fighting the right guys. He’s still being matched carefully, for some reason, as if he’s someone that needs to be protected.

Dude is completely wasting his prime years.

I really don't understand why he's so unhappy with Goosen. He got him in the super six, fought Kessler and Froch. Got a big fight against Chad Dawson. Got him a $2 million dollar payday for fighting Rodriguez after his injury. Not sure what else the guy can do. Ward says he's PPV material and wants PPV paydays. Thats just not realistic with his style and the division he's in. The biggest fights for him are rematches with Froch and Kessler, which Ward wants, but it's not Goosen's fault if they don't want to rematch him (Froch admitted Ward is better than him, what's he going to do)? The only realistic fight is Chavez jr, and Bob Arum was actually going to make that fight but Ward was sidelined in court lol. Some diva tendencies from the Son of God, no doubt.
