Well its simple, I just haven't taken the time to figure out exactly how to do It.
Say your phone says at&t like mine does. Rooting it is basically turning your phone from a branded at&t phone with bundled at&t apps you can't uninstall into a generic phone. It'd be like being able to uninstall internet explorer from windows.
The kernel stuff is basically just optimizing how your phone runs. It just utilizes processes better and makes things run a little smoother. You could also ruin your phone though lol
All this stuff is pointles unless you're using the phone to browse all night like I do or you need your phone for work or something andvare constantly on it.
But don't take my word I have a very limited almost nonexistent knowledge of this stuff

toggle your gps off and on and off again
I've had a couple phones over the years where the gps would just kick on and it showed as off and the phone battery would drain like that, as soon as I toggled it off and on a couple times it snapped out of it.
