I will have to look up the statistics on this, but there are several studies that have said that you are more likely to be shot and killed if you carry a gun, especially in a break in situation. I understand that logic there and I don't fault you for it, but my question was really, how often are people's homes being broken in to in your area by armed robbers?
I think where I live, it is SO common that people have guns in their homes, it's basically suicide to try and break in. People also tend to be neighborly here than other areas I've lived so they are more likely to look out for their neighbors if something doesn't seem right. I don't feel the need to have one and don't want to put my family in a worse position by owning a gun, just my opinion. Even in a break in, they aren't looking to hurt your family most of the time and they spook easily. If I were the one breaking in with a gun, if I saw or heard a gun, I'd be a lot more likely to shoot first, wouldn't you?
