The story wasn't long enough to be dragged out over a whole movie. Also, I didn't think the story was good enough that I would invest 2 hours to see it.
It could be lengthened to feature length due to the flashbacks Quail has in the short.

There's only the thought of them as memories and little to no description.

Half of the movie could take place in his "memories", and the other half in reality.

There's a thousand other movies that use that formula.

And you're fucking high if you don't think Dick's story is good enough to be copied directly.

Verhoeven's version makes a mockery of it for even having the designation of being adapted from the original short.

That could work. I just keep thinking about another short story that was turned into a full length movie by a (somewhat) respected director and it turned into the biggest pile of shit called The Box.
