Should Alex Ariza 'Shakes' be inspected?

By Kevin Davis

Alex Ariza has climbed to the top of the boxing scale with his techniques, and protein. Before Arzia came along, Manny Pacquiao was a fighter that was showing signs of fatigue late in fights, and nearing retirement, even with Freddie Roach in his corner. Once Ariza came into the picture there was an immediate change in Pacquiao. He was moving like lightning, throwing punches from all angles, he was a freak of nature. Former lightweight champion David Diaz didn't know what hit him.

For years many experts have questioned Ariza, who's athletes have been clean of blood doping. Now are starting to comeback due to statements made by his former employer Freddie Roach that, "He gave many some drinks and I didn't know what was in them. That Seemed a little shady to me, and that's part of the reason, he's not here anymore." Now Ariza is back under the lights, a place he never wanted to be in the first place, but his fighters keep passing the test, so until someone fails we can't judge him. If Ariza wanted to be vindicated, he should just submit his proteins over to the commission for inspection just to kill the noise and show to the people once and for all, he's doing it the legal way.

Arum says Mikey Garcia – Yuriorkis Gamboa fight depends on HBO putting up the money

Gamboa Garcia Gamboa vs. Garcia yuriorkis gamboa mikey garcia By Dan Ambrose: If the proposed May 17th fight between interim WBA lightweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-0, 16 KO’s) and unbeaten former two division world champion Mikey Garcia (34-0, 28 KO’s) is going to happen it’ll depend on if HBO can come up with the money to make it take place, says Mikey’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank. He believes he can get the fight put together if HBO can come up with the green to make the fight get made. Both fighters want the fight, and Arum is interested in staging the fight as well.

Arum kind of has to match Mikey up with Gamboa in order to set up a fight with Manny Pacquiao and Mikey in the future. Mikey needs a credible opponent for him to fight, because the only quality fighter he’s faced during his career is Orlando Salido, and their fight failed to go the distance due to Mikey saying he couldn’t breath after he suffered a broken nose in the 8th round.
Mikey was fading at the time of the stoppage, and there’s a lot of question marks about what would have happened to Mikey if the fight had gone the full 12 round.

“The fight is do-able, and I’m sure that it will be made, or least I think that it will be made,” Arum said via RingTV. “HBO wants it, and it all depends on if HBO puts up the money. If it happens, it’s going to be at the forum in Los Angeles on May 17…but it’s not finalized yet.”

Gamboa has the skills to mess Arum’s dream of matching Mikey up with Pacquiao. Well, it actually might not wreck things, because Arum has shown to have no qualms about matching fighters coming off of losses with Pacquiao in the past. Both Joshua Clottey and Brandon Rios were coming off of defeats when they were matched against Pacquiao. Shane Mosley was coming off of a 12 round draw and a 12 round defeat when he was paired with Pacquiao in 2011. So it really doesn’t matter a lot if Mikey gets schooled by the Cuban Gamboa, because Arum will likely match Mikey up with Pacquiao regardless. But a loss for Mikey to Gamboa would ruin a ton of interest in a Pacquiao-Mikey fight, because it’s not nearly as interesting for fans to see a fighter who was dominated by Gamboa than it would be if Mikey were able to defeat Gamboa.

Depending on how desperate Arum is in making the Pacquiao-Mikey fight, we could see Mikey get a fight with Pacquiao in either September or early 2015. It would be better for Mikey to at least have one fight in the light welterweight division before Arum throws him into the ring with Pacquiao, because going from lightweight to a fight with Pacquiao at welterweight, would be a recipe for disaster for Mikey and for boxing fans paying to see the mismatch on HBO pay-per-view.

Arum needs to give Mikey at least one test at 140 to see how he does and to make him look more credible with fans. I’d throw Mikey in with WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov in a sink or swim fight. If Mikey can hold off the Siberian Rocky for 12 rounds, then Arum should match him up against Pacquiao. But if Provodnikov runs right through the frail-looking Mikey like a hot knife through butter, then Arum is going to need to re-think his thoughts about the Mike vs. Pacquiao fight. Does he throw Mikey in with Pacquiao anyway off a loss to Provodnikov and figure fans won’t care or does he decide to move Mikey back down to super featherweight where he can fight in safer waters?

Miguel Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez at 159 lb. catch-weight on June 7th

Cotto Martinez Cotto vs. Martinez sergio martinez miguel cotto By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31 KO’s) wanted a chance to win a fourth division world title, so he selected 38-year-old injury-plagued WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) to fight on June 7th instead of an arguably much more dangerous WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Well, now Cotto’s fight with Martinez will be taking place at a 159 lb. catch-weight instead of at the full weight for the division at 160.

There will be no re-hydration limit for the fight, thankfully. It would be interesting to know if that was something that Cotto wanted for the fight. It would be a useless thing anyway because Sergio doesn’t rehydrate up a lot in weight like some middleweights do.

Sergio’s WBC title will still technically be on the line for the fight, because the middleweight division’s weight limit is from 155-160, with the 160 number being the upper limit for the division. But it makes you wonder if Cotto is trying to stack the deck in his favor in order to make sure that he captures a fourth division world title.

It means a lot to Cotto to win a 4th title in a different weight class, but why does he need a catch-weight handicap in order to try and win it? It’s bad enough that he’s selected the soon to be 39-year-old Sergio Martinez to fight for the title instead of the guy that is perceived to be the best middleweight champion in Gennady Golovkin. Sergio turns 39 on February 21st of this month, and he hasn’t fought since last April when he won a controversial decision over Martin Murray.

Sergio injured a knee and his left hand in that fight, and he’s been out of action due to the injuries over since. Does Cotto really need a catch-weight handicap of 159 to try and beat Sergio to take his title? You would think that Cotto’s already got all the advantages that he needs with Sergio almost 40-years-old, no longer fighting like he used to, and dealing with injury problems.

Cotto fought Manny Pacquiao at a catch-weight in their fight in 2009, and he wasn’t happy about it. So why is Cotto fighting Sergio at a catch-weight instead of the full weight? It’s not as if Sergio is a big middleweight, because he’s still basically a junior middleweight who fights at middleweight.

When there’s a handicap involved in a fight, it kind of cheapens it in the eyes a lot of fans. Of course, a win for Cotto over Sergio at 159 won’t have an asterisk next to it in the record books. It’ll be listed as just a normal victory with Cotto beating Sergio to capture his WBC title. I don’t see the point of it.

Floyd Mayweather Jr is letting the Fans Decide his Next Opponent - Khan or Maidana?

By Shawn Craddick

Last night after the Superbowl Floyd Mayweather addressed the issue that he did not bet on the Superbowl game at all. If he did, he said he would have bet on the Seattle Seahawks. Not too soon after that Floyd Mayweather is going to let the fans decide who he fights next. Although there is a catch to it. He only gave us two choices, Amir Khan or Marcos Maidana. Alot of fans want to see him fight Erislandy Lara because that would be the most competitive fight out there.

So who do you want to see him fight between the two? Hey it's only $75.

Knockout Reality Show Finishes Filming In Las Vegas

PRESS RELEASE
KNOCKOUT REALITY TELEVISION SHOW FINISHES FILMING IN LAS VEGAS
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - (February 2, 2014) Boxing's hot new reality television show Knockout finished up taping last week in Las Vegas, Nevada. There were many famous names on the set of Knockout, including boxing superstars Nonito Donaire, Robert Guerrero, Shawn Porter, Zab Judah, Ricardo Mayorga and many others. The show stars world class trainers Floyd Mayweather Sr, Yoel Judah, and Ruben Guerrero.
The cast is set to return to Las Vegas in May when the winners of the show (along with some of the losers) get their opportunity to fight on NUVO TV's inaugural boxing card. The build up to Knockout's television debut has caught the attention of other networks and a major video game developer that has seen the value in the viral explosion of Mayweather Sr. and Ruben Guerrero's on set feud that has been brewing ever since Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Ruben's son Robert last May at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
This has increased the value of all parties involved with the show, including the executive producer Steven Marcano, who is the direct reason for increasing boxing's in home viewership by over 50 million homes. Marcano brought Don King to the C.E.O. of Herring Broadcasting, Robert Herring, who's company owns the AWE Network (formerly Wealth TV). Under the direction of Herring and his sons Charles and Bobby, AWE was responsible for broadcasting some of 2013 most exciting international fights to over 25 million homes. Knockout will be broadcast to NUVO TV's approximately 35 million home (and growing) subscription base.
Knockout has already started receiving international distribution offers which will be handled exclusively through E7 Entertainment. Over the past month, Marcano has held meetings in Las Vegas and Los Angeles with some of boxing's biggest stars and major promotional companies, which has made him the go to guy for cable companies looking to enter into the boxing business or increase and improve their current boxing programming.
Marcano has two other projects in the works outside of boxing that are titled Drinks and Almost Out with his production partner Emilio Ferrari and his agents. The New York based Marcano stated that his main focus is making Knockout a major hit for NUVO TV. He plans to start a major PR campaign in March that will lead into the show's April premiere and culminate with the live fight card in May while also closing out the video game deal and watching over the growth of My Lil Star, his baby product company.
Knockout has proven to be a knockout even before it airs as it has become the most inquired about reality boxing series to date.
