Freedomland as long as you havent seen the movie. If you have seen it, it might taint the read for you in which case maybe Lush life, which is his most recent I think. Price is a heavy read, its just really emotionally rough, pelecanos on the other hand, although his stories are violent and his characters are nicely flawed or totally evil writes much more cartoony--and I dont mean that in a bad way--stories. Also, if you want to add a little breadth to your contemporary noir reading, you should pick up some daniel woodrell. Get the bayoo trilogy (im sure i mispelled that). Although The Death Of Sweet Mister is better, its not a good way to get into woodrell.
