I'm not sure how to say this or ask this without bein disrespectful..

but..

(on the jobsite)

If you only speak one language(English) and you get around two people that know English but also know a different native language...

do you find it disrespectful when they start speakin that language in front of you?

I hate it personally. Either I feel like your tryin to keep me out the convo OR one of you is sayin some bullshit about somethin....hell, the convo JUST MAY BE LEGIT!..I dont fuckin know.

I just feel hella offended when that happens. Is it wrong for me to ask you to speak in English?

I do think it's disrespectful, but it can also be a matter of guilty conscience. Put the shoe on the other foot for a minute. If you and your buddies are sitting around a person who speaks no English, at some point or another one of you will joke about that person simply because he / does not understand & you will think it's hilarious.

I myself have pretended to not speak English and have heard people say some pretty racial things. Often times mistaken for being Mexican, but being Puerto Rican. Yet, I don't have the Puerto Rican accent when I speak Spanish. I tend to sound Mexican due to growing up around Mexicans.

I've sat around people who will talk crap about Asians when they speak in their native language. People will mock & laugh like it's a joke.

There are some good people in the world regardless of race, color or creed, but a lot still have a little racial instilled in them to hate the sound of another language.

What if English is not their native language - are they supposed to speak English to each other just for your convenience?

Its not for my convenience its about respect for your surroundings (in the work place)

And if you read my statement/question again I said...

That's exactly the situation I was describing - two people who know English but their native language is different.

I have been in that situation many times - I don't feel comfortable speaking English to others who native language is the same as mine

I understand what you are saying and I have seen it done before. I can only speak for myself when I say I dont do that. I try to respect everybody to the fullest. Regardless of the person, gender, religion, ailment, doesnt matter.

Bottom line is I cant stand when Im speakin perfect English to person "A" on one occasion and speakin perfect English to person "B" on aother occasion but yet when them two get together and it'll be us 3 they decide to speak a whole different language. That shit pisses me off.
