I normal classify how a artist buzz is through how many youtubes... Your understating the importance of having a million views on your video.

Let's keep it real though. Most of the garbage on youtube has high views because it's laughable & people look at it as people making fools of themselves.

That goes to the outrageous videos & a whole lot of the independent rap videos.

High youtube views doesn't always equal a good thing.

but show me one artist with a buzz thats winning, with under 100k views... independently.

There is a correlation to having fans, and youtube hits, and twitter following. Whether that equals money can be debated, but stating the fact it's a good sign of your buzz, and fan base.

No I asked you to post a video of a artist with a buzz, that labels would be interested in it, without a bunch of hits?

Most of us can tell the difference of if we are watching some stupid shit for the lulz, or if the artist is serious with some buzz.

Example:

4351 views (released Nov 2, 2012), his total channel only has 35k views... no buzz at all - and frankly I can't take this song serious, this beat sounds like it was made off a kid's keyboard - no professionalism.

227,682 views (released Oct 3, 2012)...

released same time, who got more fans and a base? Pretend they where equal as good (even though MainAttz fucking kills him) if you where a lable who would you sign? It's a no brainer, you would sign the person able to attract some # on there own.

Again, youtube views don't equal sales. Majors are not as quick to sign anybody in 2013 due to they're youtube views. I understand what your saying & maybe it would have worked in 99 / 02 but it's just not happening in 2013.

Bring up the bigger questions, whats the good of a label in 2013... artist have never had so much self control of the music, and getting stuff out to their audience like what we have in this age.

Music is now just advertisement for shows, and merchandise. Its a business model independents realized from the start, while all the other old school conventionalist have dragged there feed showing there resistant to technology and change.

200k people seeing your advertisement vs 4k people seeing your advertisement.

Numbers is power.

I propped you & agree on the fact that independent is the way to go in 2013. The whole numbers thing I never agree because for every 30 people you'll be lucky to have 2 that are down & will stay solid. And I mean that as far as supporters / fans.

He honestly had a great buzz back in the day on myspace. He'd get 6k plays daily without logging in.

He since has slowed to a snail pace. He's not doing good numbers anymore. Especially not on any of the new social networks. He's slowly working on new material, but he just became a father, so he's a dedicated family man.

Chief keef, asap rocky, trinidad james, kreayshawn, odd future, all got deals off of youtube hits bro. its the new measuring stick. Sometimes it equals sales and sometimes it don't, but majors are looking at the views as a meter.

^ thank you. including soldja boy. riff raff got poppign from soldja boy, from the internet, then diplo signed him for 8 mil. this all happened from youtube. i can name even more situations but im tryna be quick with this.

gemini i didnt say youtube views equal sales. what im trying to do is give dude who made the thread an understanding of how far away he is from even being in the game as far as being noticed enough to even do what hes trying to project or make a goal.

youtube can give you an understanding of how many people out there are listening across the world, awaiting, or paying attention. now if you drop a new video and in 4 days you got 50k views, you have a legit fan base. im not talking 50 tyson joke youtubes.

does that equal sales? once again, no. but these same cats im talking about with views like this are now selling out shows in NYC (aston martin, started with views, those people were fans enough off this music to show up to the show and hear they favorite indy songs, sellign shows out, that gets them signed, and makes way for some sort of spot in the game.)

and yes, labels will look at these buzzes on youtube views as a legit reason to understand someone has made something out of they music by themselves, without the label. to my uinderstanding thats what labels want, people who dont need the label to get them popping, they already got themselves popping, and the label was just a platform to put they shit out at a higher degree so peoepl can actually find the album, shows they do, videos, or etc. once again, cutthroat boyz got signed by asap, who got signed over youtube and worldstar buzz getting them popping. of course, they had a movement in they city before all this became possible. those youtube views dont come out of nowhere. people usually work to get there and once again we aint talkin its so cold in the d or 50 tyson we talkin people who are talented and get noticed thru that.

at the end of the day you need to have kickstarted your own career before they even take notice enough to give you a chance to even be put in a situation to get a deal. and that takes TALENT and HUSTLE. and in most cases does NOT happen overnight. you build it.

i dunno soundscan numbers and i know you aint talkin to me, but ASAP has the number one song on the radio right now "fuckin problems" w drake/kendrick lamar (kendrick lamar another person who got poppin due to the net and youtube specifically, black hippy altogether got poppin that way)

that made lead for them to get shows, sell out shows, and get to the position where they could make good money. live nation (a big tour agency) uses the net to guage alot of shit. them and interscope follow me. so i know they use the net to discover talent.

i know kendrick is selling out shows too, fuckin w lady gaga, getting on commercials, all types of shit.

im sure tour/show money is pretty well, even in the case of albums not selling how they used to. alot of these cats who got poppin on the net are putting they albums out for free and selling out shows across the world. like danny brown for instance.

i think same thing w twitter followers, dosent equal sales but will give you a guage of how many people are paying attention. in the same sense, you aint getting verified on twitter till you are 'someone'.

i only have 1,100 followers on twitter, but i can tell you this, ive made thousands off my twitter account alone that i would have never seen without it. so i cant imagine what i could do with 100,000 views in a week and 60,000 followers. though i am a hustler and i work with what i have. ill make shit pop.

shit i made no money ( no serious money, i made some here and there ) from my radio show but it got my name fucking everywhere and gained me more respect than i could imagine. thats what i wanted it to do. i was able to make my own money without that.

I agree, but this is going back to the 50 Cent mixtape thing. It's worked for a few, but not for all.

And most artist today won't be timeless like their pioneers. My personal opinion the music is standing on it's last leg. And gripping the edge by it's finger tips.
