I see that others have expressed the same opinion already but let me do it again:

There is absolutely no fucking difference between the Function and the Mob album and most definitely the Mob album has very little to do with the Mob music of the 90s as so many of us were mislead into thinking it would sound like. And neither of them is that great as a 2012 album either

Huge disappointment.

I will continue to go against the consensus, and say this Mob Music is the best E-40 out of all his RR's, OTS, LNS, BB's recent double and tripple disks.
I would agree, but that isnt saying much because those albums, IMO, were awful beat wise. I mean, just terrible. I know 40 reads this board and i know Droop is his son, but from a long time fan, Droop needs to focus more on the complexities of beat making and production, rather than throwing together a high-hatless drum kit and half a bass line and calling it a day...

You're not a long time E40 fan tho you hate like his last 14 albums. You're actually a long time E40 disliker. I believe in this thread you said you didn't even like his albums from early 2000's so that means you haven't been a fan in almost 14 years. That's a long time.

E-40 has released 19 solo albums plus these 2 with Too Short now.

10 of these 21 albums, i.e. almost half of his discography, have been released in the last 3 years. Now I am not an E-40 stan, but I have no memory of what was in those albums at all, with the exception of one or two tracks. It was an endless stream of tracks that weren't horrible but weren't anything memorable either.

It's a clear case of quantity over quality and the criticism is more than justified

I think if E-40 would limit Droop-E beats to minumum of 2 an album, this would be ok.

I am in agreement of over use of a pitched bass kick, and no bass line. After hearing E-40 on bosko, and Studio Tone/ Mike Mosley/ battlecat... we have seen what can happen. I honestly hope 40 listens to his CD and realize every standout track he has done was not on a droop-e beat.

We could only hope for a E-40/ B-legit cd... with strictly bosko, and Studio Tone/ Mike Mosley/ (sparingly few rick rock) beats. I don't give a fuck if its mob, or they reinvent there styles a bit... E-40 just clicks on those songs.

Read what dead Blue wrote. I liked the Ghetto Report card after NOT liking the prior three albums, but that was it.

I haven't read the comments yet but Im a huge E-40 fan, but the quality of his beats are getting worse and worse. You can make an argument for the function music but im pretty tired of the same 808 and clap beats. That formula is more of a novelty than a bay area beat staple. Droop-E needs to focus on making his beats more complex and that compliment E-40's style more.

I personally like 40 on grimey and down south type beats, i think his crazy ass flow sounds way better. The chorus' are too simple sometimes too.

If the track is called "I hustle" or some shit, the chorus is usually 40 saying "I hustle, I hustle? I hustle, you hustle? I hustle mane" LOL c'mon 40.

We need more shit like the art of storytelling.

Quite similar with me - Loyalty & Betrayal was OK, Grit & Grind wasn't that great, Breaking News I wasn't at all happy with; Ghetto Report Card capitalized on the freshness (at the time) of the hyphy movement (which by no means should be taken to mean that I was in love with that album, it was a cross-over attempt and as a result it had too many pop-sounding tracks for my taste, but still, it had its fair share of good moments). but after that it was back to the Breaking News level.

I went head and bought that mobb album though bc shit was funky sounding and bumping its the closet we gonna get to vintage from these pioneers. function album was ass though bc them beats. But Mobb album my favorite e-40 was spittin but Too Short still that nigga he just like me he gets straight to the point bold and outspoken.

Beats have been horrible all around the Bay for quite a while now - after the hyphy sound got played out nothing with a distinct identity emerged to replace it. So all you hear is album after album filled with boring beats. It's not just E-40
