Broner: I will expose all the kinks in Robert Guerrero’s armor
August 16th, 2012
By Scott Gilfoid: Lightweight contender Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) is open to the idea of facing WBC welterweight interim champion Robert Guerrero if Golden Boy Promotions wants to make this fight between their two fighters in the same stable. However, Broner doesn’t see Guerrero as being a threat to him, and feels he’d expose him badly if given the chance.
Broner told RingTV “He [Guerrero] has never really showed me anything special…He’s ordinary. If that fight ever happens, man, I will expose all the kinks in his armor, man. It would be a fun night.”
It would be interesting to see if Golden Boy Promotions would be willing to make that fight. My guess is no. They have a big hope that they can somehow persuade WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. into fighting Guerrero, but they can forget about that fight happening if Broner totally schools Guerrero and exposes him worse than Orlando Salido did in his victory over Guerrero in 2006. I think Broner would make the slow-handed, weak punching Guerrero look bad in beating him. I believe that Broner could knock him out if he were able to land some of his big shots with pin point accuracy. Had Selcuk Aydin had any accuracy and if he had throw a steady amount of shots, he would have taken Guerrero out earlier this month.
It’s too bad Golden Boy won’t make the Guerrero-Broner fight because the boxing public would love to see a fight like this. Short of a better opponent being found for Broner at welterweight or light welterweight, Guerrero would serve the purpose of being a good stay busy fight for Broner.
