Pacquiao already destroyed Cotto and Cotto has no belt. So yeah, waste of time.

I hate rematches when the first fight was one-sided.

Just because Cotto gave Floyd some problems doesn't mean he would against Pac. It's annoying that some of you guys still, after all these years, fail to realize styles make fights. Cotto had his moments against Floyd because for the most part floyd stayed in the pocket and Cotto's jab was key. Do that against Pacquiao and it's the same result more or less that it was the first time around. Again, boxing isn't rocket science most of the time. Analyze the styles of the fighters, their strengths & weaknesses and for the most part (barring some miracle KO shot) you can accurately predict the outcome. Pacquiao shines the brightest in what fights? When his opponents come to him. Cotto is an aggressive fighter which falls perfectly into the hands of Pacquiao.
No weight draining and Cotto's new trainer Diaz will make it a different fight. Cotto will be fighting Manny with a actual gameplan this time around. Cotto adding Diaz and leaving Top Rank was the best thing he did for his career. Seems like the Manny fans are scared that a non-weight drained Cotto would put a beating on Manny this time around.

Lamont Peterson Retains Position As IBF 140-Pound Champ, Must Defend Against Zab Judah Next
Published August 10, 2012 | By eastside | 2 Comments

By James Slater: The fallout to last December’s controversial Lamont Peterson-Amir Khan fight has finally settled. Peterson, guilty of taking an illegal substance going into his career biggest win, was subsequently stripped by the World Boxing Association (WBA) (the other belt he won with the 12-round decision) but the IBF has today announced that their findings deem it okay for “Havoc” to remain as their champion.

The IBF has ruled that Peterson must next face former word ruler at 140 and 147, Zab Judah. All parties are now in talks, reports Fightnews.com, and the fight is expected to take place quite soon.

Forgetting for a moment all the politics (some people feel Peterson should have been stripped of all titles; Khan especially) Peterson-Judah looks like a good fight on paper. 34-year-old Judah looked poor in losing to common opponent Khan, being stopped in the 5th-round last July, but the slick southpaw bounced back with an IBF eliminator win over Vernon Paris, who he TKO’d in the 9th this March. One of the most experienced fighters around today (at both 140 and 147), Zab, 42-7(29) might be capable of outboxing, maybe even of out-punching Peterson.

The younger man by six years at age 28, Peterson, 30-1-1(15) – (why the Khan bout has not been changed to a No Contest I’m not too sure) has of course not boxed since his battle with Khan. We don’t know how the PED’s scandal will affect the Washington D.C man’s self confidence. Peterson, who maintains he has done no wrong, might feel even more determined, ready to again prove his worth, or then again his biggest win being tainted may have made him second guess his abilities. Certainly, neither Peterson nor Judah can afford to lose their upcoming fight.

Peterson has been in with a southpaw before, but he struggled with Victor Ortiz, being decked twice and emerging with a draw. Maybe the southpaw stance of Judah, combined with the Brooklyn man’s blurring hand-speed, will also give him trouble. I think we will see a high quality chess-match affair when these two boxer/punchers get together.

Judah, who will be competing in his 20th “world” title fight, and he has that edge in experience. Peterson, who has had just a couple of title fights in his time, has that edge in age and freshness. Taking everything into account, I can see Zab winning a close, sometimes exciting points victory.

Now, a penny for what former champ Amir Khan thinks about this upcoming fight!

I have no problem with Peterson vs. Judah & Morales vs. Garcia 2 the winner unify the titles. Or Peterson/Garcia vs. Khan 2..

again you're totally ignoring the styles of each fighters, strengths & weaknesses. At the end of the day Cotto is still Cotto, he's not any different under Diaz and Pacquiao is still Pacquiao.

The only thing I'm scared of is having another wasteful fight. I already thought Shane Mosley was a total waste of time and I don't see what good beating Cotto again (at any weight) does for Pac's career at this point. He's got like 1-3 fights left in him. So, personally, if the plan is to fight someone in Nov then fight Floyd early next year, I'd want the fight to be meaningful. IMO, that fight is to rematch bradley & get his belt back and get an official "W" on his record. That's my opinion though.

And it's annoying when fans of Pacquiao act like the "catchweight" they fought at had nothing to do with Pacquiao's victory. Pacquiao didn't even fight Cotto at the full welterweight limit of 147, while Floyd fought Cotto at the full limit at 154. Huge difference bruh... Cotto is much stronger at 154. Pacquiao could have at least fought him at 147, geesh...
it really isn't a big difference man. Cotto weighed 146 pounds his fight prior to Pacquiao (under the ww MAXIMUM weight of 147) and fought Pac one pound less. Cotto is the same guy at 154 then he was at 147 (except he's older and slowing down). He's a blown up welterweight. he's not a true junior middleweight and doesn't have the strength of natural 154 pounders like James Kirkland, Canelo, etc. I see no other result at any weight class based on styles & skills.

but like I said, it's only a deal to you cuz it's pacquiao and because he won. No one cares that Hopkins weighed four pounds less to fight oscar and 5 pounds less to fight pavlik (and omg he won! shouldn't he have been weight drained!?). Countless other examples as well.

LAMONT PETERSON: "I'M THANKFUL...I'M EXCITED TO GET BACK IN THE RING"
By Press Release | August 10, 2012

"I'm thankful, and I'm thrilled with the IBF's decision," said Lamont Peterson when informed that the International Boxing Federation decided to allow Peterson to retain his Junior Welterweight title. Over the past few months, the Peterson camp has worked diligently to defend Lamont in the face of accusations and innuendo following the cancellation of a May fight with Amir Khan.

Throughout the process, Lamont and his team have consistently maintained that Lamont never took any actions intended to provide him with a competitive advantage. In vindicating Lamont, the independent review conducted by the IBF confirmed the Peterson camp's position. The IBF's independent physician determined that "the testosterone levels noted in the VADA report are consistent with the therapeutic use of the hormone and not for the purpose of performance enhancement."

Lamont added, "I want to thank my manager, Barry Hunter, for all of his support throughout this ordeal. There were a lot of naysayers out there, but Barry and the rest of my team never doubted me. My team fought non-stop to ensure that I was cleared."

Barry Hunter added, "I've known Lamont his whole life and always had faith in him. We were certain that when all of the details were reviewed, Lamont would be cleared and allowed to move on with a title defense and his career."

The Peterson camp will now work toward a title defense against Zab Judah, the number one contender in the IBF Junior Welterweight rankings.

Hunter offered, "We never stopped training. Lamont looks great and we're looking forward to a great fight once we work out the details with Judah and his team."

Lamont concluded, "I wanted to thank my fans for all of their support during the past few months. I'm excited to get back in the ring. I feel great and I'm ready to fight

SLEIGHT OF HAND: ARUM GUIDING PACQUIAO IN DIRECTION OF 4TH MARQUEZ CLASH
By Ben Thompson | August 11, 2012

If he wanted to, Bob Arum could have had an extremely successful career as an illusionist. Throughout the years, the crafty Hall of Fame promoter has been able to manipulate fighters in the sport of boxing by using techniques that have left the likes of David Copperfield and Criss Angel wondering exactly how he pulled it off. His latest trick, however, has not been the easiest to accomplish, forcing him to pull out all the stops. The goal? Convince pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao to face WBO jr. welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez one more time.

Originally, Arum was hoping to stage a fourth bout with Marquez immediately after Pacquiao's controversial victory last November following their third bout. After all, the fact that the bout set a record in Mexican TV history, making it the country's most viewed boxing event ever, meant a fourth fight would also be a major success, particularly given the close, yet controversial nature of the majority decision. In fact, a fourth bout seemed like such a foregone conclusion that Arum practically announced it during the post-fight press conference following the trilogy. "There are a lot of angry Mexicans out there. I want a fourth fight...My advice to all of the parties involved is for an immediate rematch," Arum preached from the dais. "It was a great, great fight. I had Manny [winning], but it was close, so why not bring them together again in May? It makes a lot of sense to do that."

Pacquiao and his trainer, Freddie Roach, however, had a different idea, expressing little interest in facing Marquez a fourth time. Instead, much to the chagrin of Arum, Timothy Bradley was the opponent that Pacquiao handpicked himself from an already short list of choices (Bradley, Lamont Peterson, Miguel Cotto, and Juan Manuel Marquez) that was made even shorter after Cotto declined a rematch at a catchweight. So in June, Pacquiao got his wish and faced off against the undefeated Bradley, but this time, he found himself on the wrong end of another controversial decision, losing via split decision, despite the fact that he, his team, and virtually everyone watching thought he won fairly easily.

Immediately after that fight, Pacquiao was quick to declare his intent to right the wrong that he felt was bestowed upon him. After all, why not fight a guy who, in your mind, you just easily beat despite what two judges said, for a second time? It would be easy work, like taking candy from a baby; essentially a low risk, high reward payday against a guy you already beat. Ultimately, however, Pacquiao said he would leave the decision in the hands of his promoter. "I want the rematch, because, I really...I want the rematch. It's up to Bob Arum. He's my promoter. It's his decision," Pacquiao stated during the post-fight press conference. Arum quickly replied. "If you want it, Manny, that's what we'll do because we have the right to do the rematch. It's up to you."

Since that time, it seemed like Bradley's pre-fight premonition of a rematch would indeed come true, as Pacquiao has consistently referred to him as being the preferred opponent of choice when he makes November 10 return to the ring. It appears, however, that some problems are now causing Arum to have a change of heart when it comes to his previous promise that Pacquiao would get the rematch if he indeed wants it. "The real problem I have is that the pay-per-view networks, the cable companies and the satellite people in the United States don't believe that Bradley will do appreciable business and that is something that really troubles me because we spent a lot of money promoting Manny's fight, but if they don't believe the results will be there, they are not going to spend the money we need them to spend," Arum would tell Ronnie Nathanielsz of the Manila Standard. Translation to Pacquiao: A rematch between with Bradley won't make any money, so if you hope to make the $20-$25 million guarantee that you've grown accustomed to, you better pick someone other than Bradley.

It's no secret that the pay-per-view numbers for Pacquiao vs. Bradley fell short of the typical 1 million plus buys that Pacquiao normally does. The question is, how much lower? While no official numbers were ever released, Arum has suggested that they're somewhere around 900,000 buys. Several industry insiders, however, say the number is much closer to slightly lower than 800,000 buys. Now, that being said, those kinds of numbers are still extremely profitable and by all account a success, especially considering that Arum is hoping to do numbers as low as 500,000 buys for next month's highly-anticipated pay-per-view showdown between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Sergio Martinez. But that begs the question, if "the pay-per-view networks, the cable companies and the satellite people in the United States" believe that 500,000 buys are good enough to make Chavez Jr. vs. Martinez "appreciable business", then why wouldn't they think Pacquiao vs. Bradley II, which would no doubt do more buys than that, even if it doesn't break 1 milllion, would be "appreciable business" as well?

It says here that Arum's "real problem" with Pacquiao fighting Bradley is that he himself won't do "appreciable business" compared to what he could do if he can convince Pacquiao to instead fight Marquez. Factor that in with the knowledge that both the promoter, Fernando Beltran, and the trainer, Nacho Beristain, of Juan Manuel Marquez have come on record talking about the fourth fight as if it's virtually a done deal. Truth be told, it sounds as though the only one who doesn't already know that a fourth fight will take place is Pacquiao himself. With a little sleight of hand from his promoter, however, that will quickly change, and according to reports out of the Philippines, that's exactly what Arum is currently taking care of. More than likely, it won't be long before Pacquiao vs. Marquez IV will be officially announced. The only thing to decide now is the venue, but personally, I expect it to take place at Cowboys Stadium.

lol.. Manny hasn't had a meaningful fight in 3 years since he last fought with Cotto, so can that I want to see meaningful fight bs. What was the meaning on fighting 39 yrs old 135lb Marquez, 140lb Bradley, or 39 yr old non champion Mosley. Manny has been in nothing but meaningless fights for 3 yrs now. I hope Manny grows some balls one day and agree to fight Mayweather. Meaningful fights and Manny don't even go together catchweights, weight draining, and avoiding OSDT is Manny MO

Lamont Peterson still needs to be licensed by the NSAC in order to fight
August 10th, 2012

By William Mackay: Lamont Peterson received a minor victory earlier today when the International Boxing Federation concluded that Peterson can retain his IBF light welterweight title despite him testing positive for synthetic testosterone last March.

Peterson was under medical supervision for treatment for his low testosterone at the time he tested positive for the banned substance.

According to RingTV, the IBF concluded that the levels of testosterone in Peterson’s blood were at therapeutic levels and not to where he was gaining an advantage over his competition. However, Peterson still hast to meet with the Nevada State Athletic Commission to receive a boxing license if he’s to fight again, and it’s unclear whether they’ll give him the license. If they reject Peterson’s request for licensing, he can always try another state in the U.S., such as Texas. He might have better luck there if he’s denied by Nevada, but that’s not a given.

One area where Peterson may have problems with when he meets with the Nevada Commission is that he failed to disclose that he was using testosterone under a doctors care. Had he brought this out before the testing began, all of this could have likely been avoided.

Peterson’s licensing could come down to that one issue, his failure to let them know about it. In defense of Peterson, he probably didn’t see the ramifications of this. He had legitimate medical problem and he got treatment for it. I can understand that. Since he was under treatment for the problem it wasn’t like he was trying to cheat or anything. The only thing he failed to do correctly was disclose that he was in treatment.

this is why having testing done by third parties like VADA don't really work unless it's implemented by the entire sport. So Peterson (and berto) get caught taking PEDs, but the IBF rules Peterson can keep his belt and yet Nevada may not give him a license? It's all chaotic.

On top of that, I don't think it's cool that Peterson can take testosterone therapy and purposely keep it under the 4/1 ratio at 3.90/1. So it's cool if he's 3.9/1 but if he was 4/1 there would be a problem? It's obvious he's abusing the rules. It's quite possible he does medically need testosterone therapy but to keep it as close as possible to 4/1 just seems shady.

texas? fuck that! we all seen what that faggot lawrence cole is. i can't stand his ass. marquez got a 4th judge in the ring if they do it in texas.

arum looks like such a fucking money hungry punk right now.

that article makes a lot of sense to me. they can expect around 500,000 for a sergio and chavez j.r. fight but not do less than 900 or 800 thow wow on a pac fight?

why? cause pac is such a star it would look bad comparing it to other big name stars like mayweather???

who cares!

he got robbed in front of the whole world!

he needs a tune up imo before he can fight marquez! marquez is no walk in the park! he should get his 800 or 900 thousand buys then make the big money with a lil more confidence behind him after he avenges his loss to bradley.

fuck that paper champ!

i think if he fought bradley he would GO All OUT to knock this dude The Fuck Out!

come up off a win and try Even Harder to convince anyone else that he can beat Marquez. and for the record i had pac in the early rounds of that fight and marquez clearly winning up till the 12th. he really needed that round to seal the deal.

that fight i would accept a loss from more than bradley.

arum is a fucking idiot and pacquiao needs to stop leaving it up to him every post fight! Fuck Him, Fuck Texas and Fuck Lawrence Cole!

Floyd Mayweather Sr: "Pacquiao don't want to fight Floyd! Believe me when I tell you Pacquiao is scared to death!"
By Jenna Jay, OnTheRopes Boxing Radio, Doghouse Boxing (Aug 12, 2012) Doghouse Boxing
-
Floyd Mayweather Sr - On The Ropes Boxing Radio #175
By Jenna Jay (Exclusive Interview by Jenna J). On my 175th edition of "On The Ropes" boxing radio, I had a chance to catch up boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. He is considered by many to be one of the best trainers boxing today, and besides developing his sons skills, he has also trained Oscar De La Hoya, and Chad Dawson to world titles. Floyd gave me some unique insight on a variety of subjects going on in boxing, including the release of his son from jail, whether or not he believes his son has learned anything from being locked up, the possibility of training Amir Khan, Pacquiao-Mayweather, Steroids and when he believes his son will start showing signs of decline. Here is what he had to say.

On his son being released from jail:

"Being that it is my son, it was sort of up lifting, good to hear that he was getting out. He was having problems in there, but I'm pretty sure he learned something from it, and from now on I think he will stop, look and listen before he make a move like that again"

If he believes his son will gain something from this experience:

Press play and listen to the full interview now!
"It's going to do something for him, cause he don't want to be in a predicament like that again, and I know that it's definitely going to be a change for him. I think it teaches not just him, but other people that you can't just do what you want to do. I can't really say too much on it cause I don't even really know what happened, but I'm just saying there are laws and stuff, for people to obey, honor and abide by. I'm just glad he got out, and I know things were not good in there, but he's out now and that's good"

His thoughts on Amir Khan and if he believes he could help his defense:

"I could help him, but if he don't want help, that's on them and so shall it be. My whole thing is I don't chase fighters down, I don't chase nobody down. I don't have to. But if he wants to fight, and learn how to fight, learn defense, offense, whatever defense it is, come see me. One call that's all"

On if he thinks Khan could adapt to his style of defense with the shoulder roll:

"That's not the only style of defense, the only way to defend. A lot of people like that cause my son does it and I guess it's cause they want to be undefeated to, but that's not Amir Khan's style, that's not his race. I'm just saying when I say race, I mean that no other fighter fought like that from where he at. I just don't why the best trainer in the world can't show him how to not get hit. The trainer with all the accolade's, the one granted with everything when it comes to training. We know who that is don't we...Freddie 'the joke coach' Roach. Why do you think Amir Khan is leaving him? The greatest trainer in the world, better then me, why do you think there are leaving him? All you can say right now is he is on the down sloop, that's whats happening"

On if he thinks a change is best for Amir Khan:

"Of course! Look, I'm not just saying this cause of 'The Jokester' he needs a change if he wants a change, because what he's doing right now, it's a joke. And that's cause Freddie Roach is in control, that's why it's a joke. But I'm going to be honest with you, I believe there is so much I could do with Amir Khan, I know I could do something with him anyway, but when he first came here they came to me first anyway, but I guess they did not like what I was doing and wanted to do what Freddie Roach was doing, what all the fighters in his Wild Card place are doing, the thing that they should not be doing, so that's what I think"

His thoughts on Manny Pacquiao and what fight he thinks should be next for him:

"Why can't he fight Floyd now? I'm just saying, why can't he fight Floyd.....it's cause don't want to fight Floyd! I'm just telling you, this is the biggest fight in the world. Pacquiao don't want to fight Floyd! believe me when I tell you Pacquiao is scared to death! Freddie Roach knows what time it is too. They know he's not going to whoop Floyd on the up and up. There is no way in the world he can whoop little Floyd. On the up and up he don't have a chance in hell."

If he believes his son could win the fight with Pacquiao without having any drug testing:

"I would never say my son could win any kind of way, cause any time someone has performance enhancing drugs in them, there chances are much greater then someone that don't have it in them, cause it don't take but one punch, it might be lucky, but it might do what they need it to do. No one should be having that kind of stuff in them anyway"

On meeting Manny Pacquiao and finding out that Pacquiao wanted to visit his son in jail:

"Pacquiao told me he wanted to see little Floyd, when little Floyd was in jail. Pacquiao did, right in front of the top rank gym. I guess he was training over there and he told me that he wanted to do see little Floyd in jail. He said he did not know if he could get in or not, and I told him I did not know if I could get in either. So that was the last time I seen Pacquiao"

If he believes we could start seeing a decline from his son, being that his son is now 35:

"My son is only a human being, my son is only human. He ain't no different then any other man that ever boxed in the history of boxing. The older he gets, the more things will show. The older he get, timing will show. The older he get the slower we will get. That goes for anyone that boxes, not just him. We can't get to thinking that Floyd is a superman, cause he's not. I'm just saying my son has done a lot for boxing, he been in the game a long time, and he's been at the top for a long time, but I don't care who you is, sooner or later father time catches up with us. Father time catches up with us."

First off Manny lost the fight against Bradley, so in his first meaningful fight in 3 years he got beat by a 140lb champion. Then add that up with the fact that the 135lb champion Marquez at the age of 39 yrs old gave Manny a boxing lesson the fight before. Cotto showed me in the RING that he wasn't shot against Mayweather, so how am I a hypocrite again?? Plus I have always said that without a catchweight Manny vs. Cotto would've been a different fight, now tell me that I'm lying?? What's even funnier is that you would call me a hypocrite, but yet before Bradley vs. Manny was made in your eyes Bradley was ducking Khan and Khan was your number 1 guy at 140lb. Then Bradley vs. Manny gets made and out of the blue Bradley became the best 140lber in your eyes. You see the difference now? I changed my opinion about Cotto because of what he did in the RING against Mayweather (with no catch weight I would like to add). You on the other hand changed your opinion about Bradley ONLY because he got picked to fight Manny. Now really my friend you are the hypocrite not me.

FYI, I'm sick of the same Manny fans talking about Manny beat Marquez like Marquez didn't get robbed, but you want to give credit to Manny for beating Bradley like Bradley didn't just beat Manny in a close fight to win the WBO 147lb belt. The double standards are too funny about Manny.

First off Manny lost the fight against Bradley, so in his first meaningful fight in 3 years he got beat by a 140lb champion.
Let's be clear that you yourself thought it was a robbery (then later said it was a draw cuz you're that much of a hater). Second, as I posted, 99% of everyone believes Pac won. You yourself said Pac should fight "lineal champ Timothy Bradley" (even though Bradley wasn't a lineal champ, but that's nitpicking).

Then add that up with the fact that the 135lb champion Marquez at the age of 39 yrs old gave Manny a boxing lesson the fight before. Cotto showed me in the RING that he wasn't shot against Mayweather, so how am I a hypocrite again??
Because dickface, against Pacquiao you called him shot. Against Foreman, Mayorga & Margarito II you called him shot. The only reason you changed your tune is because he did well against Floyd.

Plus I have always said that without a catchweight Manny vs. Cotto would've been a different fight, now tell me that I'm lying??
We already went over this and you yourself gave props to Pac for the "whooping" he put on Cotto. of course you're such a hater you're willing to totally disregarded the oldest saying in the sport, styles make fights, and pretend one single pound made a difference.

What's even funnier is that you would call me a hypocrite, but yet before Bradley vs. Manny was made in your eyes Bradley was ducking Khan and Khan was your number 1 guy at 140lb.
I continuously said Pac vs Bradley was a good fight (I voted for Bradley long before it was made, in fact I wanted Bradley vs Pac instead of Mosley).

Further cuntface, as we already discussed numerous times, at the time I wanted Khan vs Bradley because they were the #1 & #2 fighters at 140 and would have crowned a true lineal champ (which is what I always hope for in every division). Bradley obviously got the last laugh by signing with top rank (even though it meant sitting out basically a year) and getting the Pac fight. That doesn't mean at the time myself, and the rest of the boxing world, didn't want Bradley vs Khan.

Then Bradley vs. Manny gets made and out of the blue Bradley became the best 140lber in your eyes. You see the difference now?
Bradley was always the #1 fighter at 140 shitface. I repeatedly said bradley would beat khan. Regardless, it was further proven Bradley was #1 as Khan lost to Peterson (and later Garcia).

I changed my opinion about Cotto because of what he did in the RING against Mayweather (with no catch weight I would like to add).
You were forced to change your opinion because you called Cotto a shot fighter for 2-3 years, then he busted up Floyd's face and you had to switch it up. I'm sure if Cotto had fought Pac again and not floyd, busted up Pac's face, we wouldn't hear the end about how a "shot cotto" beat up pacquiao (just like how you say a "39 year old JMM" beat up Pac as if JMM is some kind of trash fighter).

You on the other hand changed your opinion about Bradley ONLY because he got picked to fight Manny. Now really my friend you are the hypocrite not me.
Show me a post where I ever once said Bradley wasn't a good fighter. I'm waiting. (I on the otherhand can find dozens upon dozens of posts from you of you calling Cotto shot and "damaged goods").

The two fights aren't comparable. one fight was close, one fight was not. Throw away my opinion, your opinion. Look at just the boxing media.

Bradley vs Pac - 120 experts scored it for Pacquiao, 1 to Bradley and 1 a draw.
JMM vs Pac - 57 experts scored for JMM, 51 to Pacquiao.

lol at trying to justify robberies, a robbery is a robbery. Yeah I agree one can be more obvious then the other but it still doesn't change the fact that someone was robbed of a W. In the case of Marquez, I like to refer to the words of Lebron, not once, not twice, but maybe even three times.

Justifying what? one close fight, one wasn't. That's the end of it. Pac vs JMM will be the same results if they fight 20 times just like the past three fights were - razor close with tons of debate. Bradley vs Pac on the otherhand, there is no debate. One man was clearly robbed and everyone knows it.
