Heres My Breakdown
Quarterbacks:
49ers: Shaun Hill, Alex Smith, Damon Huard
Raiders: Jamarcus Russell, Bruce Gradkowski, Marques Tuiasiasopo, Andrew Walter
Edge: Even
Runningbacks:
49ers: Frank Gore, Michael Robinson, Thomas Clayton
Raiders: Darren Mcfadden, Justin Fargas, Michael Bush
Edge: Raiders.
Frank Gore is a great talent, but, depthwise, the Raiders are stacked.
Fullback:
49ers: Moran Norris
Raiders: Justin Griffith
Edge: 49ers, Norris helped pave the way for Gore to have a record setting rushing season for SF. Look for it to happen again...
Receivers:
49ers: Isaac Bruce, Jason Hill, Josh Morgan, Domique Ziegler, Brandon Jones.
Raiders: Javon Walker, Todd Watkins, Arman Shields, Chaz Schilens, Johnnie Lee Higgins
Edge: 49ers
Isaac Bruce is at the end of the career, but is still more productive, than the Raiders Number 1 WR, Javon Walker, who has proved to be unreliable. Morgan made huge strides last year, along with Higgins, but overall, the niners have a better core.
Tight End:
49ers: Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker
Raiders: Zach Miller, Tony Stewart
Edge: 49ers
Vernon Davis may be unreliable catching, but he is an excellent blocker, and Defensive Coordinators have to gameplan for him. Walker is also a threat, whether it be catching, blocking or returning kicks
Offensive Line:
49ers. Joe Staley, Eric Heitmann, David Baas, Adam Snyder, Chilo Rachal
Raiders. Robert Gallery, John Wade, Cooper Carlisle, Khalif Barnes, Mario Henderson
Edge: 49ers.
Staley and Rachal have proven to be very good for the Niner quarterbacks, last year was an off tale, because Martz is known for giving up tons of sacks, in Rachals limited play he proved to be a great run blocker, and was very effective in passing situations.
Defensive Line:
49ers: Isaac Sopoaga, Justin Smith, Demetric Evans, Kentwan Balmer, Ray McDonald, Aubrayo Franklin
Raiders: Gerard Warren, Tommy Kelly, Derrick Burgess, Trevor Scott, Terdell Sands, Jay Richardson, William Joseph
Edge: Raiders
More depth. Kelly has shown to be decent, Burgess is pro bowl quality, Sands is a great big body. Justin Smith and Demetric Evans get respect for their play but arent huge names. Sopoaga is underperforming, balmer is a rookie, and mcdonald is subpar.
Linebackers
49ers: Patrick Willis, Manny Lawson, Takeo Spikes, Parys Haralson, Jay Moore, Ahmad Brooks, Jeff Ulbrich
Raiders: Isaiah Ekejiuba, Jon Alston, Kirk Morrison, Marquis Cooper, Ricky Brown, Sam Williams, Thomas Howard
Edge: 49ers
Willis, Spikes, Lawson, Haralson are arguably a top 5 LB Core in the league, Patrick Willis and Takeo spikes are the best MLB Duo in a 3-4 D.
Defensivebacks
49ers: Walt Harris, Nate Clements, Michael Lewis, Dashon Goldson, Shawntae Spencer, Marcus Hudson, Tarell Brown, Reggie Smith, Jimmy Williams, Mark Roman
Raiders:Chris Johnson, Jon Bowie, Nnamndi Asomugha, Stanford Routt, Darrick Brown, Justin Miller, Tyvon Branch
Edge: 49ers
Harris, Clements, Lewis are all pro bowl caliber players. Shawntae Spencer is one of the best nickelbacks in the league when healthy. While Nnamdi and Johnson are the only proven players in the Raiders secondary
Special Teams
49ers: Andy Lee, Joe Nedney, Brian Jennings
Raiders: Shane Lechler, Sebastian Janikowski, Jon Condo
Edge: Even
Lee and Lechler are the best at their positions in the NFL, Nedney may be getting old and doesnt have the strongest leg, but he makes up for it with the best onside kick % and accuracy, Seabass can be very incosistent.
Coaching
49ers: Mike Singletary, Jimmy Raye(OC), Greg Manusky(DC)
Raiders: Tom Cable, John Marshall(DC). Al Davis (OC? LOL)
Edge: 49ers
whos the Raiders OC?
