Mike Brown, Urijah Faber, Jose Aldo, Seth Dikun earn $10K "fight night" bonuses at WEC 41

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Mike Brown, Urijah Faber, Jose Aldo and Seth Dikun each earned $10,000 "fight night" bonuses for their performances at "WEC 41: Brown vs. Faber II."

WEC 41 took place Sunday night at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and aired live on VERSUS. The bonus amounts were on par with the $10,000 bonuses that were given out at WEC 40 in April.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the amounts and winners following the event.

Despite the vocal support of Faber's hometown crowd, a broken right hand suffered early in the fight – coupled with a relentless attack by the champion – left "The California Kid" unable to reclaim the belt he lost in November 2008.

The effort was valiant, and much closer than the score indicated, but Brown successfully defended his title for the second time. The five-round affair, the WEC's second such title fight in as many cards, earned Brown and Faber the evening's "Fight of the Night" – wrestling that honor away from Antonio Banuelos and Scott Jorgensen, who went toe-to-toe in a close split decision on the evening's preliminary card.

In the bout prior to the main event, Aldo shocked the crowd in attendance – not to mention opponent Cub Swanson – by opening the bout with a stellar flying knee. The blow dropped Swanson, opened a massive wound over his left eye, and left him unable to continue the bout just eight seconds after the opening bell. The impressive attack also earned Aldo the evening's "Knockout of the Night."

The winner of the "Submission of the Night" was determined quickly, as Dikun claimed the honors in the first fight of the 10-bout affair. Dikun pulled off a slick flying triangle choke at the mid-point of the opening round in his bout with Rolando Perez The win was Dikun's first in the WEC after dropping a decision to Charlie Valencia in Januray.

"WEC 41: Brown vs. Faber II" nets company records with 13,027 attendees and $818K gate

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Initial reports from WEC officials indicate "WEC 41: Faber vs. Brown II," featuring a featherweight title bout between defending champ Mike Brown and former title-holder Urijah Faber, generated more ticket revenue than any event in company history.

While official live gate numbers will be released by the California State Athletic Commission later in the week, WEC co-founder and general manager Reed Harris reported 13,027 fans attended WEC 41 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., resulting in a live gate of $818,415.

Harris issued the totals at WEC 41's post-event press conference.

The organization's previous records for attendance and live gate were set at WEC 34 in June 2008. Featuring a main event between Faber and MMA legend Jens Pulver, WEC 34 was also held at the ARCO Arena. That event scored 12,682 attendees for a live gate of $738,855.

Should Sunday's reported numbers hold true, WEC 41 would represent an increase of $79,560 (10.76 percent) in ticket revenue, as well as 345 attendees (2.72 percent).

While Harris did not indicate the amount of tickets that were issued complimentary, the current numbers indicate an average revenue of $62.82 per ticket issued.

While box office success is not always an appropriate indicator of strong television ratings, Harris recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that he hoped to set a mark there as well.

"I hope so," Harris said. "We've been doing a lot of promoting."

The WEC had eyed a pay-per-view model for WEC 41, but Harris said VERSUS negotiated for the rights to broadcast the highly anticipated event.

^ I think its mostly because the WEC is on network television. Once they start doing PPV's those numbers should increase greatly.

Mike Brown had a look on his face during the post fight interview that said, "Fuck. I couldn't beat a guy who had two fucked up hands."

why not, if you know your opponent has a weakness, exploit it. You heard his corner telling him his hand was broke, I would have immeadiatley went after that hand.

did anyone else hear Brown's cornerman tell him it was the left hand that was broken? I swore I heard him yell it after the 3rd round but no one else I was with did.
And I didn't get why he didn't try to take Faber's back the 5 times he could have, and was going for peruvian neckties like he's CB Dolloway and shit.

I really felt bad for Faber, he deserves another title shot after 2-3 victories. Being there live was amazing.

i thought he said he was retiring......
the first comment he made it sounded like it, but then he said hed fight anyone they put in front of him. so hes probably undecided.

The whole card except for the manny gamburyan fight was awesome. i was sitting about 20 feet from the cage. lidell, dana white, pulver, koscheck were all signing autographs for a long time also.
