I really like this one. I mean it was really creepy. Especially the subliminal messages. I mean with the Ward dressed in all black and Teddy dressed in all white and the conversation they were having in the Jeep. That was a real treat right there. Cause they are showing a classical good vs evil metaphor. And what is said is classic.

this shit was really good. who ever said it was predictable was retarded. everyone was leaving the theather in silence just thinkin about the movie that they just saw in a good way more then likely. anyone who said they knew the ending is fuckin lying their ass off. maybe they guessed and it came to be close to what they guess but there is not one part in the movie maybe until the last 20 minutes i had a clue to the ending. im usually pretty good about predicting endings too. great conversation movie.

I liked the movie, and I guessed the ending pretty early on, but I REALLY didn't want that to be the case since I've seen a bunch of movies like this already, a beautiful mind being the one it reminded me most of, so I tried coming up with other theories hoping that Leonardo wasn't crazy (I was hoping john nash was not crazy in a beautiful mind) and hoping everything he feared was true, but in the end it was just like a beautiful mind - DAMNIT!

still a good movie, I enjoyed it.

The book was dope. I finished it about a month before the movie came out. The movie was almost exactly like the book, but they left out some things I think they should've left in.

For example: throughout the book, Teddy discovers more of those hidden codes (like the one he found in Rachel Solando's room) and coinsidental signs/puzzles all over the island, in which he and Chuck eventually solved. This was a big part of the book, and had me on edge to see what the next clue was. And had they showed this in the movie, it would've made Teddy's fake character more believable to the audience. It would've showed off his problem solving skills that he acquired as a "code breaker" during WWII. And I think it would've helped people get into the story more, and would've lead up to a much greater suprise ending for those who didn't read the book (i.e. The Usual Suspects).

I kept hearing people saying it was too predictable. It was kinda dissapointing, I agree. But I still think the acting was really good.

Another thing too is that Martin Scorcese isn't known for making these type of films with surprise endings (although, the ending in Casino was shocking). I think it would've been a better movie if it were in the hands of some other director. Just my opinion.

I finally got on this bitch. Move was good, but not great. I liked the concept and the dream sequences were really done well. DiCaprio's accent sometimes disappears, but he did a good job overall. He kept his accent up in The Departed much better IMHO.

I did not see the twist coming (although watching it again, you see all the hints dropped as to what was going on), and I kind of agree with MEXCOM in that the very ending was almost a bit of a cop-out. Ben Kingsley did a great job, although he has yet to be mentioned. I never though Ruffalo was a good actor, and until I understood the twist, I thought his B-Movie acting was bizarre...of course, the twist helps explain WHY he "acts" that way.

The psychological aspects of this film are what shined through, which include the dream sequences...

**SPOILERS**

I watched this about a month ago but never got around commenting on it.

First, I thought the movie was awesome. And I thought this even though the movie was spoiled for me. Some asshole (a regular) came up to me at the gym:

Asshole: Have you seen Shutter Island?
Me: No. Is it any good?
Asshole: Oh yeah! I don't want to spoil it for you, but have you seen 'The Secret Window'?
Me: Uhhm, yes..
Asshole: Well it's just like that!
Me: FFFFUUUUUUU-

I was pissed at the guy because I immediately came to the conclucion that DiCaprio's character must be insane. I was much more reluctant to watch the movie now.

WITH THAT SAID, and pretty much knowing how everything panned out, I watched it (DL), and still very much enjoyed it. The ending was more or less as I expected but there were so many other aspects of the film that kept me interested and had me guessing, that it was hard not to like. In regards to Shutter Island being predictable, I beg to differ. I basically knew the ending and by the way this movie was directed I actually doubted whether the guy had actually spoiled it for me.

The most powerful scene for me was when they did the flashback to when his wife killed their children. That shit blew my mind. There were other big scenes but that one was the best IMO.

As for the ending, I thought it was pretty straight-forward. He was insane, but the last measure to cure him of his illness worked.

"Which would be worse, to live as a monster or to die as a good man?"

Uhh Ethereal, you might want to put spoilers in your post. While most of the people in here have already seen the movie, that's not to say that everyone has. Not trying to be a dick but just a heads up.
