The way we played, being down by 2 TD's seemed like 100....plus i needed to get home to my kid.
It was a great comeback and for the first time this year they had a legit comeback reminiscent of years prior. Defense of course let them down in the end, reminded me of the ATL playoff game in 2012.

So idk, on one hand it was nice to finally see that they still are capable of coming back from double digit deficits, in the second half the offense really got going and Doug Baldwin was a monster. On the other hand their problems were just so apparent - unbelievably bad offensive line in the first half which was probably the worst I've ever seen from an entire o-line, without Earl this defense is completely different, lack of pressure from the d-line and of course now losing Lockett, who was becoming our best explosive player.

If the defense can't get things together without Earl there is no chance in the playoffs, none. In years past if the offense out up 31 points it was a 100% win. With this offensive line, we just can't expect those types of numbers in the playoffs.

The hits keep on coming...ouch!

31. Germain Ifedi, OL, Seahawks (Texas A&M)
Snaps: 777

PFF overall grade: 37.6

Germain Ifedi has been one of the league’s worst offensive linemen in his rookie season, playing guard on a team that seems stacked with them. He has surrendered 38 total QB pressures (tied for fourth-most among guards), despite playing only 12 games, and been flagged eight times. His run blocking has at least been passable, but his pass protection needs to improve immeasurably for him to be a viable starter.

Great article. This one really hurt too, I was hoping (in fantasy land) we traded up for him as a Kam replacement...

17. Keanu Neal, S, Falcons (Florida)

Snaps: 853

PFF overall grade: 81.0

The Falcons found a real impact player in Keanu Neal, at least judging by his rookie season. Neal has shown the ability to deliver big hits, and has so far avoided the missed tackles those can cause, missing just five of an attempted 95 tackles. He has also been able to come up and make tackles short of the first-down marker in coverage. Simply put, the Atlanta defense is a much better unit when Neal is on the field.

This really makes you appreciate the Pats

POINTS ALLOWED PER GAME

2016 —17.9, 2nd.

2015 — 17.3, 1st.

Comment: All of the above defensive numbers have helped contribute to the Seahawks likely losing a chance to lead the NFL in fewest points allowed for a fifth straight season. Seattle has allowed 269 heading into the final game, second in the NFL but 33 behind the 236 of the New England Patriots, who have allowed just a lone field goal each of the last two weeks. Seattle, meanwhile, has allowed 75 points in the three games it has played without Thomas.

Which is funny because many pundits tagged Pats as having a underwhelming defense, especially compared to the offense. But they have been stingy this year, just not imposing...fairly similar to the Hawks. But our injuries have really hamstrung us.

Especially crazy considering they traded away 2 of their better players in Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins.

The way they run their organization, I have a lot of respect for that team.

Seahawks are going to have to shake things up in the off season and they may need to take a page out of the Pats playbook. They have a lot of valuable players on defense and it may be time to part ways with one or two of them to help rebuild the offense. It's going to suck to lose any one of these guys but it's probably necessary at this point. They can't keep going forward neglecting the line like this and the only way to do it realistically is to free of cap space in order to bring in a couple vets that actually have a history of not sucking.

I actually still have high hopes for him. Dude is a rookie and he was injured, so he came in with almost no experience and was learning on the job. Still, there are plays where he is dominating. And then of course others he gets made to look like someone's bitch. But I think the talent is there, he's a big strong guy and I believe he's going to improve.

Here is some perspective on Seattle's offensive line. Let's take a look at the best line in the league, the Cowboys. Their left tackle was a 1st round pick, and was extended for $13.25M/year, which is more than double what the entire SEA offensive line makes and that is including depth! Think about that for a second, let me say it again - one player on the Cowboys o-line makes more than double than the Seahawks entire o-line combined. That is truly what it boils down to, money. People can blame Tom Cable all they want or blame this or that but at the end of the day they have by far the least amount of money put into their line in the NFL. Everything else is then affected by poor blocking - run game sucks because there are no holed or getting hit behind the line of scrimmage, passing gske sucks because Wilson has 1.3 seconds to throw. Defense is on the field too long because the offense can't sustain drives.

That can only be changed by putting in more money. Snyder and Pete have to do a much better job in this regard and actually give Cable some talent instead of asking him to perform miracles every year which leads to him having to convert defensive players, TEs and start guys who haven't played on the line since junior high school!

Really the only guys I think should stick around are Britt and Ifedi, everyone else should be cut and I'm guessing they won't even get jobs elsewhere (Sowell, Fent and Gilliam for example, i seriously doubt would even be practice squad guys on other teams that's how much of fucking bums they are).

They are going to have to let some guys go, make some trades and spend big money in free agency on top of high draft picks to correct this next season. Otherwise it's going to be a very long process and could potentially ruin Wilson if not physically then mentally, not too mention any running back they put back there whether it's Rawls, Collins or Procise they all are getting beat up.

Yeah I agree. My first move, cut Kearse. Followed by trying to move or cut Jimmy.

I can't imagine missing one guy on defense makes them this bad. It makes no sense. This isn't bball, where literally one guy can carry a team.

Yeah I mean it's really weird, but I think it's a confluence of factors, exacerbated by Earl going out.

Sherm is still good but he is no longer in the conversation for best in the league or really even in the top 5 discussion (PFF has him at 15)

Shead is average (PFF has him at 34)

Lane is inconsistent at best (PFF has him ranked 85th btw)

Also Tharold Simon, Tye Smith, and Macus Burley have sucked and barely played on their new teams....which highlights my conclusion....

the Hawks have not drafted well since 2012 and we are starting to see the cracks form as the lack of talent behind the starters weakens.

Field Gulls had an article on that subject two weeks ago. I thought i posted it in this thread, but maybe i didnt. Basically said the drafting has been pretty bad the last 3 years.

I don't think it's weird at all, but I agree with everything afterwards.

We've been primarily running a Cover 3 Zone for several years and the inherent weaknesses are well known (and regularly exploited) by any polished opponent with any semblance of talent in the league. We've seen Earl consistently tested especially with play-actions with side by side WR running vertical routes for a possible 1on1 with one of the WR. We've seen lots of QB's take shots there and score deep or open a shot elsewhere like a free man up through the middle, usually a TE or something. That middle of the field is generally what gets exploited though. Like you said we've had a lot of average and inconsistent and downright horrible play at this most exploitable area of the zone. Even when everyone is healthy and we got all our best starters playing at the highest level, nothing is a given. Kam getting an unfavorable 1 on 1 match-up with someone who simply outruns him or covering the run opening up a 1 on 1 shot elsewhere; or Sherman, Lane, etc., getting unfavorable match-ups and mix-matches.

So it's not really weird at all when we have teams consistently attempting to exploit these huge vulnerabilities and it feels like we were holding on for dear life when we do succeed on defense rather than the old domination that we were used to seeing (this feeling is compounded by an anemic and pathetic offense consistently straining the defense and we've seen defensive players begin to buckle under this strain and lash out against it), or it results in losing when they're successful enough to get lucky maybe 3-4 times a game; then you take arguably the most critical player to the schemes success out, it's a clear foregone conclusion.

Great post btw, good points and positions.

I guess why I use the word weird is because while I agree with all of that, we still ended up 3rd in scoring D, and the defense has looked significantly worse with ET out than I expected. Like Fucky McFuckerson said, I expected a drop off but we have looked lost our there without ET. That was weird.

I also say weird just because I am not used to seeing the team like this. We still have most of our core around, and a lot of the core is still playing at an elite level (Bennett, Avril, Bobby, KJ, Kam, ET).

IMO you have 6 of your 11 guys playing elite ball, 3 playing good ball (Sherm, Frank, McDaniels)

That really only leaves 2 guys to bring us down. Granted McDaniels isn't any every down guy and ET is now out.

Even with Terrell, Lane, Shead, and Rubin all kind of sucking - we still have got to have one of the most if not the most talented D in the league overall.
