blow is way too long, that shit is like fuckin 2 1/2 hours long, and if its not, it sure as hell feels like it lol.

all in all i like scarface way more. tony montana peaks then goes down shooting, the perfect ending imo. johnny depp gets in trouble, then tries to come back, then gets in trouble again, then tries to come back, then gets in trouble again. and he gets punked a bunch of different times. i know its based on the real george jung but it wasnt as awesome lol. plus penelope cruz pissed me off so much in that movie, i wanted to punch her in the face for years afterwards lol, i still do

Blow

I think scarface is overrated and boring. (Not a bad film but not what it's made out to be)

I personally think anybody who say's Scarface is "overrated" clearly points a clear picture that, that person watched it because he heard about it through rap records. And heard from people here & there & expected this big hype. Which is what happens with a lot of rap records today. Too much hype and not living up to the expectations. In these cases, less is more & gives room for people to go into it with an open mind.

i like em both

the only thing that gets a lil weird in scarface is his relationship with his sister, great movie dont get me wrong but that shit was always a lil strange imo.

blow is a dope movie too, the part where he promises his lil girl then gets busted is sad as fucc, his own homies turned on him.

no. i just think it's rated higher than it should be thats all. i watched this because my pops watched it nonstop when i was a kid so i grew up on it. some people have this as #1/#2 gangster movies of all time and IMO it's maybe #5 and thats a big maybe.

Perhaps I have a different opinion for the fact that I watched Scarface with no expectations & it's simply one of my top 5 movies. I have no real numbers (or a real number one movie of all time) because I'm a movie buff, but I would also say Pulp Fiction is also in my top 5 of favorite movies.

I see what your saying though, but it all falls in each person's perspective, right? Yet, there are a majority of people who go with the whole Scarface thing because of rap.

Much like I had this one dude tell me he thought Ghost Rider was a tighter movie than Iron Man. I personally think the dude is a complete idiot, but all in all that's his perspective.

I think Scarface, Blow, Empire, Goodfellas, Carlito's Way, Mobsters, Casino etc. are all complete different movies and I honestly can't compare in which one I like best. I like them all for different reasons.

Bottom line is that most people who like to categorize their gangster movies thrive off them. It's their only way to live their gangster lifestyle without suffering any repercussions.

Actually my cousin used to watch the film all the time like it was the dopest thing ever. This was way back while gangsta rap was still big but my exposure to the film came from the people I hung around, not records.

it was almost a birthright to me though. i didnt have any expectations on the movie when i was so young i didnt know what expectations were besides maybe waiting for xmas gifts lol. i used to LOVE scarface but when i got older i realized it's not that great of a movie to me. IMO Pacino KILLS it and makes the movie but other than that everything else just seems mediocre to me. again this is opinion thats all.

i dont categorize gangsta movies. a gangsta movie is a gangsta movie and sure all are different but to rate them i just judge off what i like pesonally. Pulp Fiction and Scarface are so different yet they're labeled gangster flicks so in my opinion i like Pulp Ficiton better and would put it ahead of Scraface along with Godfather 1, Godfather 2, Goodfellas, Casino, Carlito's Way etc. etc.

A lot of people think their relationship was incest, like the affair in Shakespeare's Hamlet between the prince's mother and his uncle the king. See Tony didn't wanna bang his sister, it was that in his crooked/cutthroat world, Gina was the only one that was pure ala Desdemona in Othello. Because she was so innocent he would do whatever it took to keep her that way. Even if it meant draggin her outta that bathroom he caught her fuckin 'round in, or smokin his main man that betrayed him when he warned him 2 stay away from her.

I never found their relationship that weird. Tony kept it real and he hated anything that could make look bad. also what would you do is you caught your sister fucking with a guy in the mens bathroom while blowing coke? also what would you do if your best friend (who's know for sticking his dick in everything) starts fucking with you little sister? the coke is what made him kill him, but if he was sober he woulda gave Manny and ass whippin so bad he prolly wished he would be dead.

Also it was the coke that made the sis act all fucked in the end. she didnt know why Tony kept cockblocking but as as viewers did.

Yeah that's clearly why this overrated movie is overrated. Not for the simple fact that it's overrated.

I was around 8 or 9 ('88 or '89) when I first saw Scareface which would have been well before the vast majority of rappers were "being" Tony Montana or doing "Tony Montana type things." I liked the movie then and I like the movie now but as I got older I could just tell it isn't as great as people (not just rappers, but people) make it out to be. Thus making it overrated, to me... and a whole lot of other people.

There are quite a few parts of the movie that are just straight up cheesy and cringe worthy.
