Chronic without a doubt, this isn't even close, even tho Illmatic is one of the greatest albums of all time.

every single song on illmatic has some type of sample. thats the thing mostly every rap album has some type of sample on it. alot the new beats dont bc they basic beats made with 808 and synths on some sequence software

illmatic had the better overall vibe and sound to it imo. marked the rise of hip hop and rap, in general, in America to dope level status. a hip hop classic.

chronic is more of a west coast classic, marking the rise dre and snoop's rise during that time period. gangster rap album over funkadellic beats.

I'll never say an album is "better" than Illmatic. I may like it more, it may be "basically as good", but nah. Illmatic is a perfect 42 min. of hip hop imo.

For me Illmatic is pure art. The Chronic is great entertainment but these albums are not in the same lane.
