Yeah the briggs signing has been replaced with OLB Calvin Pace on the outside, and MLB Dontarrious Thomas

Now that would be a much better signing overall over briggs

Then the LB core would be Lawson,Willis,Thomas,Pace

Over the possibility of Lawson, Willis, Briggs, Tully Banta Cain/ Roderick Green

Dontarrious Thomas is a good overall backup for the vikes but i dont think hes good enough to be a star at any one position, hes versatile but he doesn't stand out

^ i know, and i think thats what we need, a capable LB alongside willis...

cuz obviously derek smith wasnt cutting it lol

and Pace would be a very nice upgrade over TBC

Lawson, Willis, Thomas, Pace
Sopoaga, Franklin, Smith

That would be a very very capable ffront 7

And lining up lawson behind soap

oh my god...... he would be beasting

oh man i cant wait to see who the 9ers pick up..

I'm already counting on gettin c. smith so that better happen...

either pace and thomas or briggs would be a nice addition to our LB core..

wouldn't mind having foster backin up gore....

and we absolutely have to get at least 1 more solid reciever in free agency, im hoping for berrian.. and hoping to draft a wideout in the top 3 rounds of the draft for sure...

only 1 hour away from free agent time...

we shall see what happens

Niners plenty active at the start of free agency

The 49ers have not been passive at the start of free agency, as several fairly significant things are in the works, including a visit from Bengals free-agent DE Justin Smith tomorrow (Friday). He has not agreed to terms with anyone, and he also is reportedly making a trip to meet with the Vikings.

Oh and according to john clayton the niners are inquiring about Faneca.......

There is word that the 49ers have agreed to terms with QB J.T. O'Sullivan (Lions), LB Dontarrious Thomas (Vikings) and RB DeShaun Foster (recently cut by the Panthers). Terms of these deals are not known.

This is what else I've learned . . .

--The 49ers are not in the running to sign OLB Calvin Pace or WR Bernard Berrian, but they are going after WR Isaac Bruce, whom the Rams released on Thursday. Pace and Berrian are probably getting big deals elsewhere. If Bruce's asking price is right, I'd expect him to sign with the 49ers to reunite with Mike Martz.

--It sure looks as if the Raiders are going to land 49ers OT Kwame Harris with a big deal, somewhere in the neighborhood of $5.5 million annually for five years with $10 million to sign.

--Just because Smith is visiting does not mean he's going to be signing . . . though it's certainly puts the 49ers in a good position. It is possible his price might rise to the point past where the 49ers are willing to go.

dammit......

NINERS START SPENDING

Though none are all that high in profile, the 49ers have already made a few moves in free agency.

The Niners reportedly have agreed to terms with Lions quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan, running back DeShaun Foster, and Vikings linebacker Dontarrius Thomas. Foster recently had been released by the Panthers.

Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rose Press-Democrat also reports that the Niners will host defensive end Justin Smith on Friday. Smith is scheduled to visit the Vikings, too.

Finally, receiver Isaac Bruce could be heading to San Fran, where he'd be reunited with former Rams coach Mike Martz, who's now the offensive coordinator of the Niners.

ESPN.com has the terms from some of those 49ers deals. As previously noted, the 49ers have also struck a deal with return specialist Allen Rossum.

The deals according to ESPN are: Foster two years, $1.8 million; O'Sullivan one year at the league minimum, plus $40,000 to sign; and Thomas two years.

^ great signings, very cheap..... that means theres still 26 mil left
