UPDATE

Klitschko vs. Chagaev is Set For June 20 in Germany

By Rick Reeno

Moments ago, manager Shelly Finkel informed BoxingScene.com that IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has decided to fight undefeated Ruslan Chagaev on June 20 at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Klitschko had been scheduled to fight David Haye who withdrew a few days ago with a back injury. HBO has passed on the fight, several television options [for America] are being explored as we speak.

"Wladimir will fight Chagaev. I should know [the television] situation in the next 48-hours," Finkel said.

______
Klitschko is a bitch. He could have waited 3 weeks to fight Haye. Now, no Haye and HBO will not pick this fight up. pathetic!

Why wouldn't he just wait ?

I mean, a unification bout in this case is not nearly as intriguing as the Haye fight would have been. Especially with all of the hype/build up.

Not like I care too much about the heavies anyways, but damn.

I dunno, the whole thing is weak. But after furhter thought, Chagaev isn't a bad choice either. The guy is undefeated, he's pretty skilled and he's a legit contender.

As far as the Hep B thing, apparently the level is low and although it's contagious, as long as you've had your vaccine shot (or get one before the fight) there is no risk involved. I guess Valuev is just a giant pussy and scared of needles

Why is he a bitch? Chagaev > Haye in terms of what they've done at heavyweight. Haye is the one that pulled out and Wlad has a completely sold out arena and a chance to beat a legit heavy. The fight was booked for the 20th and it's not Wlads fault that it's not happening.

Anyone watching Molina beat up Danny Perez? I like this kid .. takes fights on short notice and comes away with a win. He was also dicked twice against JCC Jr.

I can't beelive HBO passed up on the fight (Klitschko vs Chagaev). I mean I know they are filtering things out and cutting back, but Chagaev was the best next available (and ready) opponent to replace Haye. I bet if Arreola was fighting they would have picked it up...

That's weak...

They didn't pick it up because no one knows Chagaev. And they would pick Arreola up because he's been hyped and has a somewhat of a following.

But you're right, Chagaev is the best option out there and honestly, he's better than Arreola and Haye.

This fight is tomorrow on ESPN Classic at 2:00PM Pacific time. This is a very significant fight because The Ring decided to make this fight for the Heavyweight Ring title, which no one has held since Lennox Lewis. Wlad is ranked #1 and Chagaev is #3, The Ring states in certain circumstances the #1 can fight #3 and the winner can be crowned champ. The reason this can apply is because the #2 fighter is Vitali Klitschko and the two brothers will never fight eachother.

Klitschko 240-Pounds, Chagaev 225-Pounds

Decent? This is gonna be an extremely dope fight IMO. Both have an aggressive style and it's an all Canada title fight so the crowd is gonna be going nuts. I've been pretty hyped for this fight glad Versus picked it up.

I'll give the big Klit his props for beaing Ruslan, he's a quality heavyweight and I'll also say that Klit has really perfected his style of fighting, he seems to be at his peak right now and I really doubt anyone in the division can beat him.

With that said he's fuckin boring as fuck and I hope David Haye knocks his ass out

Yeah, he is definitely efficient with his style. LOL @ the big Klit.

He does have a monstrous right hand though to follow that jab.

Eh, I get all of my boxing jollie's nowadays off of the lower weight classes. Watching big slow ogres duke it out is a thing of the past, with the quality of the heavies the way it is now.

Wlad's win over Chagaev was highly impressive IMO. He not only shut him completely out, he made Chagaev look like a journeyman punching bag.

.. also Haye wouldn't have made it past the 2nd round knockdown.
