How many Whitaker fights have you seen my man? I have his entire career on DVD and I've NEVER seen anything like him, unreal abilities and skills. But at the end of the day, despite all that skill, he doesn't have the resume to crack the top ten just like Floyd.

Maybe you missed my point about Calzaghe. You mentioned Floyd being undefeated which doesn't really matter since he didn't fight better opponents like Robinson, Ali, Leonard, Duran, Hagler, Armstrong, etc, did.

I dont think your history goes deep enough to understand top five. If we go by skill only Pernell Whitaker wins that, but of course the all important resume factors in. Boxing is about who you beat and who you fight, otherwise undefeated fighters like Sven Ottke and Calzaghe would be the greatest ever.

Just look at welterweight, this is the pretty much universal top ten all time great rankings (just at welterweight, mimd you):

Sugar Ray Robinson
Henry Armstrong
Sugar Ray Leonard
Joe Walcott
Kid Gavilan
Jose Napoles
Emile Griffith
Barney Ross
Jack Britton
Jimmy McLarnin
And that doesn't even include Pernell Whitaker, Tommy Hearns, Trinidad, Carmen Basilio and others.

Floyd has never unified a division. His bests wins are Diego Corrales and Castillo (one of the two he nearly lost). After that lots of good and ok wins nothing great. Hatton, Oscar, Guerrero, Cotto, Mosley....good, solid wins. They dont compare to the top ten guys. FLoyd has no real AMAZING victory on his resume. Purely awesome, dominant performances, absolutely! But unfortunately he doesn't have that A+ hall of fame, all time great in their prime opponent on his resume.
floyd not top 10? you have to be joking

I agree he doesn't have shit on dudes like griffith and sugar but come on bro..lol

Ive seen tons of Whitaker's fights. I was a fan of Whitaker and thought he beat both Chavez & Dela Hoya. I think he is very good but Floyd is better in my opinion. Again being undefeated only means sumthin if u stay undefeated for a very long time and beat top oppostion. Neither of which Calzaghe has done. Floyd on the other hand has. Longevity at the top and unbeaten means a great deal. Got Em!!

Yes but he has no GREAT wins on his resume. Good, solid wins but nothing great. How can that justify top ten? Again, who are Floyd's best wins? Castillo and Diego Corrales, correct? Doesn't exactly compare to Ali beating Foreman/Frazier/etc, Leonard beating Hagler/Hearns/Duran/Benetiz, Robinson beating dozens of hall of famers, Armstrong beating dozens of hall of famers and defending belts in three weight classes simultaneously, etc etc.

listen, you're disagreeing with historians. A public opinion poll is amongst fans, obviously not historians and know little about the sport. There mere fact you wont even acknowledge my question (who are Floyd's best wins) tells me everything I need to know which is your opinion holds no weight. It's like if some Klitschko fan said he's the greatest heavyweight ever, "that's my opinion and my opinion is equal to that of great boxing historians", it would be just as ridiculous. Beating Castillo / Corrales and a bunch of ok.good fighters simply doesn't cut the top ten. No boxing expert would say otherwise (which is why they don't).

In my opinion, if you think Floyd is a top 10 all time fighter, you know dick about boxing. I think Roberto Duran said it best, Floyd is "just another fighter" in his era. Sure, Floyd might take a fight here and there between the 4 horsemen, but he damn sure loses a fight. I don't think anyone who really knows boxing would think that Floyd is better than Sugar Ray Leonard was. Floyd is an excellent fighter and I've always contended that if Floyd capped his career at 140lbs, he probably would be considered in that upper echelon because he was so dominant and his ko percentage would've been a lot higher. He could've stayed at 135 (wouldn't be surprised if he could still make that weight today if he didn't try and maintain 147 for all this time) and dominated forever. He also could've stayed at 130 and beat Morales, Marquez, Barrera, Pacquiao (if it happened), Gamboa, etc...

Who are Floyd's best wins?
Hatton was HOT when Floyd beat him , also coming out of a long hiatus and whooping Marquez like that was crazy. Floyd has a lot of good wins. He fought some old school dudes too like Gatti and Corrales. He beat castillo with a torn rotator cuff. Also it's not all about what you look like on paper. His style, reflexes, and skills shown in the ring clearly are all time great...he'd match up pretty well with just about any welterweight. Saying he isn't top 10 welterweight is an absolute snub

Welterweight (and middleweight ) is the most stacked division in history and listen this isn't a knock on floyd AT ALL because Floyd hasn't fought at welterweight his whole career. He has 8 fights or so at WW

Floyd's WW resume:
Mosley
Hatton
Guerrero
Judah
Baldomir
Marquez
Ortiz
Sharmba Mitchell

That isn't top ten at welterweight. Floyd's greatness spans from 135 to 154, so that explains why he's not top ten at WW since he's only had 8 fights there.

I agree that he has a lot of good wins, but no great wins. Thats what prevents him from being ranked higher. The most skilled fighter, imo, he beat was Castillo in the rematch. Guys like Gatti, Hatton, not very skilled fighters (entertaining!). Diego Corrales was probably second best, although he wasn't the most skilled fighter himself. At 135, I think that's where Floyd would rank MUCH higher because he beat very good fighters. 135 Floyd was a monster and he did his best work there.

Floyd should've fought Tsyzu before Hatton did, but didn't. He also should've fought Williams and Margarito, but he's always avoided guys like that. I'm surprised he fought Corrales at all, and Castillo.

You can't punish him for fighting in an era where fighters go up and down through weight classes as they please. That's just the evolution of the game. What is he then in terms of weight?? He's a big lightweight, and a tiny middleweight....so I go with welter. Oscar is a welterweight even though he ballooned up and fought bigger dudes. Why are you being so selective with Floyd? Sugar ray Leonard fought Hagler at middleweight and Tommy Hearns at super middleweight, but no one is calling him a middleweight?

I can't argue with that at lower weight money Ko'd a lot of solid dudes on the regular. Still a top 10 WW to me but we gotta agree to disagree

It's always been part of the game, henry armstrong, robinson, archie moore, etc. etc. etc.

It's not punishing mayweather. It's just he has 8 fights at welterweight. That's it. Like Roy Jones had 6 or 7 fights at 168, so can't really rate him that high there (although 168 is a very new division), see what I'm saying? Welterweight is the most stacked and historic division in boxing so to rank top 10 then is pretty damn difficult with only 8 good wins there.

If Floyd didn't retire for two years and lets say for argument sake he fought and beat an undefeated Cotto, undefeated Paul Williams, prime Margarito, along with Pacquiao, then shit that would of probably done it.

What is he then in terms of weight?? He's a big lightweight, and a tiny middleweight....so I go with welter.
Well he just he started off a little guy (135) and eventually grew out of that division, or purposely got bigger and ended settled at 147. I think he's a true welterweight now, but it took some time to get there.

Oscar is a welterweight even though he ballooned up and fought bigger dudes. Why are you being so selective with Floyd? Sugar ray Leonard fought Hagler at middleweight and Tommy Hearns at super middleweight, but no one is calling him a middleweight?
I'm not being selective with Mayweather. Winning titles in multiple weight classes is a huge deal in boxing. You mention Leonard...here is an example. leonard fought, and beat, Duran at welterweight, Hearns at welterweight & came out of a three year retirement (detached retina) to beat the lineal MW champ in Hagler. That's three all time greats right there, along with wilfred benitez at welterweight. That's crazy. So it's about WHO he beat most importantly (btw, his rematch against Hearns at supermiddleweight, they were both way past prime by then and Leonard only weighed 160 and Hearns 162. The 168 pound division was only created about a year before that).

What I'm saying is Floyd lacks GREAT wins on his resume. Some of that isn't his fault, some of that is, but it is what it is. Klitschko, although I'm NOT comparing Klitschko to floyd, rather using this as an example, has been fighting in an extremely weak heavyweight division. Some people say, "well you can't fault Klitschko for dominating a weak era". No I can't, but at the same time he doesn't have any great wins. This of course is a way more extreme example and floyd is 8972394723482X better than Klitschko! So don't get me wrong here.

Now, if you want to talk head to head, i.e Mayweather vs Duran, Mayweather vs Emile Griffith, Mayweather vs Robinson, Mayweather vs Leonard, that's a totally different topic as I'm sure Floyd holds his own against a lot of those guys.
