broner123By Allan Fox: After his disappointing setback against Marcos Maidana two years ago, light welterweight contender Adrien Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) has done a good job of coming back from the defeat to win his last three fights in impressive fashion.

Broner, 25, feels he’s going to be the guy that takes over boxing after Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao retire from the sport in the future. Broner says he’s going to show boxing fans that he’s the one to lead the sport into the future on June 20th in his fight against Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs) on NBC Sports Net on Premier Boxing Champions from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A loss for Broner in this fight would be devastating for his career because it show fans that he’s not the guy that will take the baton from his “big brother” Mayweather to become boxing’s biggest star. But if Broner dominates Porter in an impressive fashion, then you’ve got to give Broner a good chance of realizing his dreams of becoming the star of the sport. Of course, it’s going to take bigger wins than beating guys like Porter for Broner to take over. He’ll need wins over fighters like Kell Brook, Marcos Maidana, Danny Garcia, Ruslan Provodnikov, Chris Algieri and Amir Khan for Broner to be seen as the next huge star.

Those guys would be very tough fights for Broner, but it’s possible that he could beat them if he looks as good as he did in beating his last two opponents Emmanuel Taylor and John Molina Jr. Broner looked very mature in those fights, and showed talent that many fans hadn’t seen from him since he was fighting at super featherweight.

“I got to beat his [backside] though. They can’t even put them [Porter and Marcos Maidana] in the same category,” Broner said to Dontae’s Boxing Nation. “Maidana was the one who gave me a loss on my record, but I gave him the hardest fight of his life and he didn’t want to fight me no more. It don’t matter. Everything is a learning process. I’m still learning in the game. I will show on June 20th that I’m taking over the sport of boxing.”

Porter brings a lot of the same elements to a fight against Broner as Maidana did. Porter likes to pressure his opponents in waves, and he’s very difficult to deal with due to his inside fighting skills. Porter throws a lot of punches, and he tends to smother his opponents once he’s on top of them. If Broner hasn’t learned how to defeat this style since his loss to Maidana then it could be a really tough night for Broner on June 20th.

If Broner could get a fight against Mayweather in September, he would give his career a real boost. Even if Broner loses to Mayweather, he would still gain a lot of boxing fans from that fight as long as he looked impressive in losing. I’m not sure that Mayweather would want to fight a friend of his like Broner in what could be the last fight of Mayweather’s career. It’s probably not realistic for fans to hope for a fight between Broner and Mayweather, but it would definitely be a plus for Broner’s career if he got that fight.

“I have been in the ring with Shawn Porter, and he knows that personally,” Broner said. “I’m not talking trash for this fight because they know what they have to deal with. I’m a mature Adrien Broner and I’m just building my brand. Any mistake in there with Adrien Broner is deadly. I’ll definitely stop this guy if it presents itself. I’m definitely going to take it. That mother [expletive] better bring it,” Broner said.

With $300 Million Haul, Floyd Mayweather Tops Forbes' 2015 List Of The World's Highest-Paid Athletes

Floyd Mayweather has had a career full of monster paydays, with cumulative earnings of $420 million entering 2015. But Mayweather still craved the score of a lifetime. “Even from day one when I was with Bob Arum, I said I wanted to work extremely hard to get to a certain point in my career, which is to get to a point to be the first fighter to ever make nine figures in one night,” Mayweather said ahead of his May 2 fight with Manny Pacquiao. Mission accomplished for the man they call Money.

Mayweather received a $100 million check on fight night, but the real payoff came after the revenue figures were tallied up. The fight was a dud in many people’s eyes, but it smashed every financial record in boxing, including pay-per-view buys (4.4 million and climbing), total gate ($73 million) and sponsorships ($13 million). The fight is expected to gross $600 million once everything is counted. The fighters and their promotion companies will divvy up roughly $400 million, with Mayweather owed a 60% cut. Factor in his September 2014 bout against Marcos Maidana, and Mayweather earned $285 million over the last 12 months in the ring. “Floyd Mayweather just pulled off the biggest score in the history of sports and entertainment,” says Leonard Ellerbe, who heads Mayweather Promotions.

Mayweather's $300 million year shatters the record for athlete earnings, which was previously held by Tiger Woods who banked $115 million in 2008. Mayweather's May 2 fight against Manny Pacquiao crushed multiple boxing financial records, including PPV buys (4.4 million), total gate ($73 million) and sponsorships ($13 million). Mayweather has typically shunned endorsement deals, but inked agreements with Hublot, FanDuel and Burger King ahead of the May fight.

Mayweather has shunned endorsement deals in the past, but he inked agreements with Hublot, FanDuel and Burger King ahead of the Pacquiao fight. The sponsorship deals and other earnings outside the ring from things like his TMT merchandise (short for The Money Team) added $15 million to Mayweather’s historic year.

This is the third time in four years that Mayweather has ranked as the world’s highest-paid athlete. Mayweather’s $300 million year shatters the record for athlete earnings, which was previously held by Tiger Woods, who banked $115 million in 2008 ($125 million adjusted for inflation). If Mayweather worked on Wall Street, he would have ranked 14th among the top-earning hedge fund managers in 2014. (See “Mayweather and Pacquiao Produce The First $600 Million Night In The History Of Sports”)

The Pacquiao fight marked the fifth bout in the blockbuster 30-month, six-fight deal Mayweather signed with Showtime in 2013. Mayweather, whose record now stands at 48-0, plans to fight in September to satisfy his contract and then ride off into the sunset.

Pacquiao also scored the payday of a lifetime, vaulting him to second place among the world’s highest-paid athletes at $160 million (he ranked 11th last year). Pacquiao’s $125 million haul for the Mayweather bout was four times his previous high for a boxing match. Pacman also tallied $23 million for his November fight against Chris Algieri that took place in the gambling mecca of Macau, China.

Pacquiao boosted his income further through endorsement deals with Nike, Foot Locker, Wonderful Pistachios and Nestle’s Butterfinger, plus a handful in the Philippines. The pugilist and Philippine congressman is sidelined for the rest of 2015 after shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff. His promoter Bob Arum is aiming to have Pacquiao climb back in the ring in Dubai or Abu Dhabi in March or April 2016.

Nice to see Team Golovkin not bending over. I doubt they can secure any kind of written deal, at least from Cotto or Canelo, but they shouldn't just sit there doing nothing. At least get a written guarantee from the WBC which could be used in court if needed.

Team Golovkin: We Get Cotto-Canelo Winner or No Deal

By Steve Kim

With Miguel Cotto's emphatic fourth-round knockout of Daniel Geale this past weekend at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, the immediate focus turned to a fall showdown versus Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez - in what would be one of the most anticipated fights of 2015.

But Cotto, who has the WBC middleweight title in his possession, still has an obligation to face Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, who is currently the WBC interim-champion based on his victory over Marco Antonio Rubio last October.

Tom Loeffler, the managing dirctor of K2 Promotions told BoxingScene.com on Wednesday morning:

"Certainly Cotto can fight 'Canelo if he wants to but not for the WBC title unless they have an agreement from us. The whole point of the interim championship is when the regular champion is healthy he's obligated to fight him and the voluntary defense that he had this time - that was supposed to be the 'Canelo' fight. That was the resolution at the WBC convention. They were supposed to fight May 2nd and then we wouldn't have this issue with trying to work out something for the Cotto-'Canelo' fight."

"So that's the situation there. They chose to fight Geale and now the winner of the Cotto-Geale fight is obligated to fight against Gennady or vacate the title."

So is Team Golovkin amenable to a step-aside fee to allow that fight to be contested for the WBC title?

"I don't think we would agree to anything unless the winner agreed to fight Gennady," answered Loeffler. "So it's a matter of trying to get the best fights and we're certainly not trying to box Cotto out. Cotto has the WBC middleweight title, he's obligated to fight Gennady. So then if they want to try and work something out and try to make that fight, that would be the obligation on their side.

"But we don't have any agreement in place. I guess they're in talks to do the Cotto-'Canelo' fight but we'll see what happens in the next couple weeks."

The weight is almost over for Shawn Porter
Jun 04, 2015 By Jason Scavone

It’s been a long time since Shawn Porter fought at anything other than 147 pounds.

Shawn Porter didn't have any trouble hitting 147 pounds for Erick Bone, and he doesn't anticipate any trouble getting to 144 for Adrien Broner.

In 2010, Porter campaigned at 154—which was still on the light side for him after a high school football career. Since then, he’s found success at 147. Now he’s dropping down to 144 to fight Adrien Broner at a catchweight June 20 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena (8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT) live on NBC. And here you thought the move was to add weight the deeper a guy progresses in his career.

Early indication makes it seem that cutting to 144 isn’t going to be a problem for Shawn Porter, who was sitting at 154 five weeks before the fight.

“I feel great because I’ve never been this light this soon in camp,” Porter said. “I understand what that means leading up to the last week of camp.”

The catchweight might have been a point of contention for some fighters, a difficult part of the negotiation process or something undertaken grudgingly. Porter just laughs it off.

“That’s nothing to do with me at all,” he said. “They tell me what it is and I go for it.”

Shawn Porter keeps the home fires burning for Adrien Broner fight
Jun 10, 2015 By Jason Scavone

Plenty of fighters crave the Spartan, distraction-free confines of a training camp far from their hometowns. For Shawn Porter, though, it was an easy choice to keep his camp where he makes his home, and where he’ll be fighting Adrien Broner—in Las Vegas, the last city in the country anyone could describe as “Spartan.”

Shawn Porter is playing the homebody this training camp.

This fight we especially want to keep everything in house because the fight is here,” he said. “Anything we need we’ll ship it in, we will get it ready.”

Training out of his regular gym just west of the Las Vegas Strip, Shawn Porter eschewed going up to the Bay Area in California, something he and his team have done in the past.

Instead, he’ll opt for the creature comforts of home, where he can do things like watch the Cleveland Cavaliers try to hold off the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.

“I have a projector screen and I like to turn it up loud and feel like I’m there,” he said.

Maybe LeBron can come over next week for workouts when the finals are over with. Porter is hoping to have the crib tricked out even more by then.

“We do have a few people here right now there that are working on our gym,” Porter said. “Hopefully it will be a week or two before the fight and we can get in there and do some things, play around a little bit. Other than that, massages will be done at home, icing, hot baths, all that stuff. This is the perfect opportunity for us to prepare the right way that we need to prepare for this fight.”

KEITH THURMAN RESPONDS TO VIRGIL HUNTER: "IF ANYBODY'S CHIN IS SUSPECT, IT'S YOUR BOY"

"I'm happy that Amir Khan finally said my name out of his mouth. I was happy to hear that. I don't know why Virgil Hunter likes to talk for his fighters," stated undefeated welterweight champion Keith Thurman, who responded to recent comments made by world-class trainer Virgil Hunter. During the post-fight press conference following Amir Khan's victory over Chris Algieri, Hunter was asked about the possibility of a future showdown with Keith Thurman.

"Styles make matches. You know, I know Keith is a very vocal young man, confident in his abilities, but if I have to be honest, you know, Keith has stepped up a little bit himself; you don't see the knockouts like you used to see. When you start going up in the A leagues, they don't come as easy," Hunter explained. "There's things I know about Keith Thurman that I won't say, but he better watch his chin too. I know him way back from the amateurs. I can tell you some things to shock you, but I'll leave it alone."

Evidently, those comments didn't sit too well with Thurman.

"I don't understand that little comment because if anybody's chin is suspect, it's your boy. You've probably seen it in training camp over and over again, okay," Thurman commented unexpectedly during a recent conversation with FightHype.com. "I'm not worried about nothing, man. I'm excited for this fight [against Luis Collazo] and I'm excited for the fights to come. I tell people all the time, I'm not Floyd; I'm young and I'ma be here for five or six more years giving you guys some of the best fights in the welterweight division, best believe!"

fat dan chat wrap 6/12:

- WBA had Ali Raymi ranked...but he is dead. As far as he knows the WBA has not even acknowledged it yet.

- Believes Ramirez is ready to fight either Abraham or Steiglitz. They would be willing to travel to fight, if the money was right.

- GGG is the mandatory for Canelo-Cotto winner. Who knows if the winner and GGG will actually fight. If they do not fight they will be stripped and GGG will gain the belt.

- Boxing is on an upswing. HBO is having one of its best years in a long time, ESPN boxing site traffic is the highest it has ever been, and PBC is putting fights on network TV.

- Cotto vs. Canelo will get made. Still discussing venues. One possible location is Cowboys stadium. The official announcement of the fight will be coming soon.

- With Beltran-Soto scratched, Valdez will get shown on HBO if he can get a decent opponent. They main event (Bradley-Vargas) will be the 1,000th fight shown on HBO.

- HBO has said they will put together a video like they did for 500 fights.

- Four man tourney at MW: RJJ vs. SRL, SRR vs. Hagler, then winners? RJJ beats SRL, SRR beats Hagler. RJJ has a shot, but SRR wins overall.

- Tony Harrison has a fan friendly style, good skills, and a great personality. If he beats Willie Nelson, expect him to get a world title shot at 154 next year.

- No information on Mayweather's next fight. Just a guess it will be Khan. Seems like the most logical opponent.

- Mayweather should announce his next opponent within a month.

- Bradley vs. Vargas will be for the WBO belt.

- Canelo vs. Cotto will sell more than 500k PPV buys.

- LSC vs. Mares will probably be this fall. The winner ideally fights Frampton soon after.

- Ref Frank Cappucino passed away.

- PBC's main issue is that there isn't much ad revenue. It takes time to build the brand up and get advertiser's on board.

- Walters by KO over Marriaga.

- Froch vs. GGG talks are cooling off. Tom Loeffler says they would like the winner of Lemiuex-N'Dam.

- GGG wants all the belts, so winner of Lemiuex-N'Dam makes sense and be the best fight GGG could get. Lemiuex-GGG would be an exciting fight.

- Fighter who has the most embarrassing quality of opponents? LSC.

- Imagines Danny Garcia will be vacating the WBA belt soon.

- Anthony Joshua has the potential to be the best HW.

- Canelo or Cotto, who is the A side? Canelo has a bigger fan base, but both are major stars.

- Shockingly poor attendance for the Guerrero fight. Odd time for an outdoor fight in LA.

- No one is excited over Wilder's fight. Huge mismatch.

- Lara's fight is a mismatch as well.

- RJJ has two fights scheduled in August.

- We shouldn't have issues with catchweights if both fighters agree to it.

- Wilder vs. Fury or Povetkin will not happen this year. The WBC won't order a purse bid until October and those usually get delayed. If one of those fights gets made, it will probably be next spring.

- Not done yet, but the co-main event for PBC's 8/1 card (Malignaggi-Garcia) is most likely Jacobs-Mora.

- Darchinyan and Angulo are proud warriors who have been in a lot of good fights. They both need to look at retirement or risk really getting hurt.

- Postol is long and tall, but it can be hard to use that when Matthysse is punching you.

- Both Postol and Matthysse have said the want the fight and it is a no brainer for HBO to put on.

- Charlo will wait on K9 since it is a mandatory fight.

- When Manny returns who does he likely fight? Mayweather.

- Garcia-Malignaggi will be at 147.

- Tureano Johnson's manager is trying to get him a fight vs. Heiland. Good fight.

- No US broadcast for Abraham-Steiglitz yet. It would be perfect for Showtime International.

- Did not think Froch was really considering fighting GGG unless the money was amazing.

- Anthony Peterson is a non-entity. He rarely fights, fights nobodies, and is boring.

- Does not agree with Bowe being inducted in the HOF. Did not vote for him.

- Prime Casamayor vs. Gamboa? Casamayor easily.

- Brook vs. Rios? Outside chance of happening.

- When PBC broadcasts cut off and return on a different channel (due to time slot issues) it is absolutely horrible. In the case of the Darchinyan-Cuellar fight they didn't show round 2.

- Walters vs. Lomachenko is not guaranteed to be in the UAE (if it were made). It very likely could take place in the US and be on HBO.

- Unlikely that Lomachenko-GRJ 2 happens.

- Not sympathetic toward Margarito. Has always believed he is guilty as sin.

- Fighters walking in with their entourage enhances the atmosphere. PBC/Haymon view that differently.

- WBA vs. WBC who is worse? WBA is the worst.

- Verdejo to beat Najera.

- Chris Algieri is expected to stay at 147.

- Has talked with Richard Schaefer and he will be back in boxing before the end of the year. He cannot say specifics as his settlement precludes it.

- Broner vs. Porter may be the best card PBC has put on.

- At 147 he picks Porter to beat Broner without hesitation. The catchweight gives him pause.

- Erik Morales is a lock for the HOF.

- Pedraza vs. Klimov? Pedraza.

- Bob Arum can drink.

- Juan Diaz is recovering from shoulder surgery.

- Pascal could end up getting a rematch with Kovalev.

- People who think Manny did not suffer an injury and have surgery are conspiracy theorists.

- Eventually thinks we get Quillin-Jacobs.

- Dmitry Khudryashov has huge power, but is very wooden with not a lot of movement or speed. Against a top opponent he may be befuddled. His power is top notch.

- Do we see a different JCC now that Garcia is training him? Doubtful.

- Casamayor for the HOF? On the fence, but would probably vote for him.

- Predicting KO2 for Wilder's fight (the 10 pound weight advantage buys Molina an extra round).

- Expects to see Wilder fight again this year.

- Buy or Sell: Sergio Mora gets another title shot? Buy.

- Fury vs. Klitschko? Klitschko by brutal KO.

- Hopkins vs. DeGale? Decent fight, but he will believe it when he sees it get made.

- Always wanted to see Maidana vs. Matthysse, now it seems doubtful because Maidana is with PBC and Matthysse with GB.

- No news on GRJ.

- Arum says he is making Walters vs. Lomachenko next.

- Breazeale vs. Joshua? Joshua by massive KO.

- Molina: 239.25, Wilder: 229.

- Walters: 127.4, Marriaga: 125. TR told him Walters would make weight.

- ESPN has tried to get the rights for the boxing HOF broadcast, but the boxing HOF has delusions of grandeur.

- Has not heard rumors of Margarito making a comeback. If true...not a good idea.

- Ranks JMM ahead of Morales and Barrera, career wise.

- Ranking of these fights (Cotto-Canelo, Ward-GGG, Kovalev-Stevenson, Wlad-Wilder)? 1. Cotto-Canelo, 2. Kovalev-Stevenson, 3. Wlad-Wilder, 4. Ward-GGG.

- Rank the careers of Camacho, Tito, and Cotto? 1. Cotto, 2. Tito, 3. Camacho.

- Are there current notable fighters who he believes use PED's, but he can't say anything about it because there is no evidence? Yes, 100%.

- Prime Mosley vs. JMM? Mosley, easily.

- Fighters who have managed their money well? Hopkins, Wlad Klitschko.

- Doesn't particularly care either way about Garcia-Malignaggi. It isn't a bad fight, it isn't a great fight.

Adrien Broner: Floyd Mayweather Jr. is Teaching Me A lot

Posted by: Carlos Boogs on 6/12/2015

By Carlos Boogs

Next Saturday night, Premier Boxing Champions returns to NBC, when former three division champion Adrien "The Problem" Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) collides with "Showtime" Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs) in a welterweight fight taking place at 144-pounds.

The fight takes place on Saturday, June 20 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

For this fight, Broner is training at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas - which is owned by WBO/WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather and Broner have been good friends for the last few years. Both fighters are advised by manager Al Haymon (who advises Porter as well).

There was a point in time when Broner was regarded as the second coming of Mayweather - until Broner was derailed by a twelve round decision loss to Marcos Maidana in December 2013.

Porter will be the toughest opponent in Broner's career since Maidana.

Broner says Mayweather is helping him a lot in camp, by giving him advice and detailed pointers on the proper tactics and strategy to use in the ring.

"I love [training at the Mayweather Boxing Club]. With Floyd Mayweather in there, he's teaching me a lot. You know, he's teaching me. We talk all day. He comes to watch me train all the time," Broner said.

Maidana open to Broner rematch or Guerrero, talks return and MayPac

Maidana, 31, decided to take some time off after suffering back-to-back losses against Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2014 and told WBN that he should be ready to fight again in the fall.

At the moment, there is no shortlist of opponents for Maidana's comeback, although 'Chino' stated that in no way has he ruled out a rematch with Broner as the American insisted on Tuesday.

"A rematch with Broner is fine. He's a nice guy and he's probably trying to push for revenge which is a good thing, but I've never said I wouldn't fight him again," Maidana exclusively stated to World Boxing News on Friday.

"After I beat him before, they asked me about an immediate rematch, but I said I have beaten him fair and square and only that I deserve to fight Floyd Mayweather - which was a logical thing. I never ruled out another fight and facing Adrien again is always a possibility for me."

Broner, 25, meets Shawn Porter on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and Maidana believes 'The Problem' will find a way past the one-time IBF title holder and would then be willing to negotiate another clash.

"I think Broner is the smarter of the two and that he will prevail during the fight," said Maidana. "Porter is strong, but I see Broner prevailing, and would I be interested in the winner – yes, why not?

Another fighter on Maidana's immediate radar is 'The Ghost' Robert Guerrero after a previous attempt to get the fight on fell through some four years ago. Maidana and Guerrero when both were hovering around the super lightweight limit when pitched together in what look on paper to be a classic match-up.

Guerrero recently struggled to get past the dogged Aron Martinez on PBC, although Maidana still sees his fellow-Mayweather challenger as a viable option and says if the pair fought, fans could expect an entertaining toe-to-toe encounter.

"That was a fight that we were supposed to have back in 2011 and it was cancelled just one week before the fight as Robert got a severe shoulder injury," he explained. "At the time I was devastated as I had an intense three-month training camp and ended up empty handed.

"Robert was also devastated as he had to be out of boxing for one year, but these days Guerrero has given fans great wars and I'd love to engage in a war with him myself.

"Hopefully I'll be back before the end of the year. October, November would be great and we will know more about who is my opponent soon."

On a final note, Maidana was asked his opinion on Mayweather's recent clash with rival Manny Pacquiao on May 2, which ended with a one-sided victory for 'Money' amidst claims by the 'Pacman' that he suffered a pre-fight shoulder injury.

"I attended that fight and to be honest I didn't notice that Pacquiao was injured at all but you never know in boxing. All I know is Mayweather outboxed Pacquiao all night and got a clear win for me.

Cotto-Canelo winner will be stripped of WBC title if he fails to fight Golovkin

By Sean McDaniel: It’s still unclear if WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KO) will be facing junior middleweight contender Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) later this year. But whether they do or they don’t face each other, whoever holds the WBC title will soon need to face Golovkin if they want to hold onto the strap.

The World Boxing Council has given Cotto permission to face Canelo as long as Golovkin is in agreement with it and receives some kind of step aside payment. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler doesn’t want to stand in the way of the Cotto-Canelo fight from taking place, but he wants the winner to realize that they need to defend their title against Golovkin next. Even if they don’t know, they’ll soon find out if they choose to try and schedule a title defense that doesn’t involve Golovkin.

“GGG is mandatory for the Cotto-Canelo winner and it is supposed to be the next fight,” Dan Rafael said on his chat at ESPN.com last Friday. “Whether it happens or now, who knows. If it doesn’t the winner of Cotto-Canelo will be stripped and GGG, as interim WBC titlist, will become its full titleholder. May-Pac has no bearing on Cotto-Canelo. That fight is a monster period.”

There’s a lot of interest in what the winner of the Cotto vs. Canelo fight will do. Loeffler thinks that Canelo will agree to fight Golovkin if he beats Cotto. But Loeffler doesn’t see Cotto doing the same, even though he recently told HBO commentator Max Kellerman that he would be in agreement to face Golovkin in his next fight. Loeffler expects Cotto to vacate his title rather than step inside the ring with Golovkin and risk being knocked out.

It’s going to be good to get some closure with the whole Cotto-Canelo and Golovkin thing. Boxing fans need a chance to find out who the best fighter is in the middleweight division. If it’s Cotto, who has become a catch-weight champion, then so be it. If it’s Canelo, one would hope that he will stay at middleweight and defend the WBC title against guys his own size rather than melting back down to his own special weight of 155 pounds to continue to fight junior middleweights at this weight.

Boxing fans have a lot of question marks about how good Golovkin is as a fighter. He’s beaten a lot of average fighters thus far, and he still hasn’t faced a top fighter that you can call a good guy. If Cotto and Canelo choose not to fight him, then Golovkin will be seen as the top dog by default simply because he’s got a better record than those fighters and he’s winning his fights in a more impressive manner.

Woah! Golovkin breaking the "Good Boy" image for this interview! Note: This interview took place in Russian and translated to English...

Golovkins comments/response to Andre Ward in bold.

Golovkin Shreds Andre Ward: Why Are You Talking Shit?

WBA/IBO/WBC interim-middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs) has erupted over some recently published statements from WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs) , who returns to the ring on Saturday night against Paul Smith at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. The fight will headline Roc Nation Sports' first televised event on BET.

In an exclusive interview with BoxingScene.com, Ward called Golovkin and his team into question for "making excuses" to avoid a potential fight between the two of then. He says guys like Golovkin have made "eight or nine" excuses to avoid the fight.

"If the fans and the writers buy that, then they are going to continue to say that," Ward told BoxingScene.com.

"The reality is this, and I’m not trying to coming off as a tough guy because I’m not a tough guy. I just come to fight and do my best and fight the best. The reality is, when Carl Froch fought Mikkel Kessler the second time, I commentated that fight. I was in his country. I told him, I told his promoter to pick up the phone and let’s make it happen. When you’re in somebody's backyard and they say those kind of things and they don’t respond and come up with excuses – you got your answer."

"Guys like Froch, or even Golovkin, these guys have had at least eight or nine different excuses – from ‘we’ll fight everybody but him, we’ve got to build it up, he’s scared, he's just talking.’ It's just ridiculous and I don’t even follow it anymore and you won’t hear me call their names anymore, because I've got too much respect for what I've accomplished in this sport and I've got too much respect for my legacy as a whole to chase anybody at this point in time."

"If the fans are comfortable and okay with [Golovkin] fighting the level of competition that he's fighting - and I’m not taking anything away from those guys because they deserve credit for getting in there and doing their best – but the level that he’s fought and what they're claiming him to be – if the fans and the writers are comfortable with that then that’s just what it is and he's going to continue to fight that level of competition."

"He’s going to cross his fingers that Canelo or Cotto take a fight with him. He’s literally begging these guys, who are smaller guys, to step in the ring and fight with him - but you can't have this reputation that you want to claim without fighting the best," Ward said.

"You can't come to my weight class and side-step me. Just because a trainer or a promoter says something, it doesn’t make it true. These guys literally get paid to say what they say. And their whole plan is for the trainer to talk tough, and the promoter to talk tough, while Golovkin sits on the sidelines and just smiles and waves. They tell him to smile and keep waving while they talk tough. I'm not going to get involved with that, because I'm real simple when it comes to the sport of boxing – 'let's get it on.' If you mention my name and you mention my weight class, then lets do it."

"All of the different narratives that they come up with, all of the different excuses and even lies they come up with – I am not going to get caught up in that and you are not going to hear me calling this guy’s name no more. I presented myself and that’s the best that I can do. I’m not chasing anybody in this sport. I'm the champion of my division and my job is to be ready when my name is called."

Golovkin has come back firing, with both barrels. The 'Good Boy' took a few moments to become the 'Bad Boy' as he came back swinging in response to Ward's comments.

"Hey Ward, wake up. Why are you talking trash about others? Speak for yourself. If you are trying to make a name for yourself by mentioning my name and building your fight by talking about me, then be a man and tell the truth," Golovkin told BoxingScene.com/Allboxing.ru.

"At our meeting with HBO they asked both of us whether or not we are ready to fight. You remember our answers........I said 'yes' and you said 'no.' Something about your shoulder or promoter. I am not interested in your reasons, I only heard your 'no.' But you remember HBO made it clear back then that this fight needs a lot of time to build up. Then why are you talking sh*t about excuses?"

"When you make such provocative statements, don't even think that it will make [promoter Tom] Loeffler [of K2 Promotions] buy into it. You have not been interesting to anybody for a long time already, and surely he won't build your name for you."

"So go and build your brand on your own. Although everyone already knows what you are, and that's why they don't go to watch your fights. You shouldn't worry about who I fought or who I'm going to fight. Worry about yourself. You and the rest were lucky with the Super Six tournament where you got opponents by contract. And look who are you fighting now? - boxers ranked fourth or fifth in England. Although you do know very well that for all of the people in the United States there is still an open question - who is the best between you or [Andre] Dirrell. If you aren't able to call in the morning, then don't attempt to crow."

"When I say that I am ready to fight any middleweight and that I am ready to move up to 168 for a big fight, then I'll put my money where my mouth is. And I have nothing left to discuss with you. As a true man you are dead to me."

Ward needs to end this dudes run already. Hes become way to cocky with no real no real resume. Yes Ward has been inactive but his resume is a million times better. I know 2-0-Sixx, another boxing feud we are not going to agree on. Hopefully this one doesnt take 5 years for them to settle it in the ring

Of course his resume isn't as good, GGG never had the luxury of a super six in his weight class. The thing is, Ward hes a tuneup after his self imposed layoff. The problem is hes being disingenuous. If hes unable to fight, he shouldn't be accusing others of ducking him, especially if it was him that said no to HBO for a Golovkin clash. Thats scoundrel tactics. Ward hasn't been able to fight for two years and he knows that, but he acts as if Golovkin could have fought him when that hasn't been the case.

1-golovkin3 (10)By Dan Ambrose: Not only does WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) want to be the one that faces Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) for his September 12th date in Las Vegas, Nevada, but Golovkin is very confident that he’ll defeat the American fighter.

Golovkin says he’s ready to face Mayweather right now if the fight can be made. Golovkin is ready to take it. The question is would Mayweather be willing to fight Golovkin at junior middleweight? Golovkin says he’ll come down in weight six pounds to meet Mayweather at 154.

Mayweather has already beaten a similarly sized Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2013. Canelo is slightly heavier than Golovkin. So it’s arguably not a question of weight why Mayweather wouldn’t fight Golovkin if he chooses not to.

“He’s my dream fight. Of course, I’d beat him,” Golovkin said about Mayweather to TMZ.com. “100 percent, I’m ready for anybody.”

Mayweather would shake up the boxing world if he were to agree to fight the 33-year-old Golovkin because many fans don’t believe Mayweather is confident enough to take such a risky fight. This would be a fight where Mayweather likely wouldn’t be the favorite. It would be more of a 50-50 fight.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Golovkin were to be the favorite going in because of his ability to end a fight with one punch. Mayweather is very hard to hit, and it could be a problem for Golovkin to land his shots. However, Golovkin wouldn’t hold back from attacking Mayweather the way that Manny Pacquiao did in their fight last month on May 2nd. Golovkin would walk through Mayweather’s jabs, left hooks and straight right hands in order to connect with his big power shots the same way Marcos Maidana did in his two fights with Mayweather in 2014.

Just by agreeing to fight Golovkin, Mayweather would win a lot of respect with boxing fans because it’s highly unlikely that Pacquiao would ever agree to fight Golovkin unless he were to drain down to 147 to take the fight. Even then, I doubt that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum would give the green light to letting Pacquiao take that fight against the Kazakhstan star. After the way that Pacquiao was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012, I don’t think Arum would let Golovkin anywhere near his No.1 fighter Pacquiao.

If Mayweather were to agree to fight Golovkin, you would have to hope that there wouldn’t be a rehydration clause in the contract to keep Golovkin from rehydrating more than 10 pounds. But if there was a 10 pound rehydration weight clause like the one they have in the Adrien Broner vs. Shawn Porter fight for this Saturday, I think Golovkin would still be able to make the weight. He comes into his fights at around 170. If he has to fight at a catch-weight of 154, he’d obviously need to use a lot more endurance exercises during training camp to strip off some of the muscle he has on his frame. It’s unlikely that Golovkin’s punching power would be effected with the weigh

Floyd Mayweather News: Following Manny Pacquiao Fight, Floyd's Next Opponent Could Be Keith Thurman

Following his win against Manny Pacquiao in May, welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather has found himself in a curious situation. A rematch against the Filipino icon would have made perfect sense considering the record-breaking financial figures of the first fight, but Pacquiao's shoulder injury prevents another mega-fight from happening in 2015. Now Mayweather is in search of his next challenger and the candidates don't look nearly as promising.

The welterweight division is littered with talent, but Mayweather's September fight plans were expected to include a high-profile opponent in what could be his last fight. Amir Khan was thought to be the most logical opponent for Mayweather, but Khan provided a less-than-inspiring performance in a win against Chris Algieri on May 29.

The one boxer who might garner some interest is Keith Thurman. The 26-year-old defeated Robert Guerrero in March, and will be fighting Luis Collazo in July. Should Thurman win convincingly he could perhaps get a shot at the champion. He told On the Ropes Boxing Radio that he wants a shot a Mayweather.

"We're definitely in line for the Mayweather shot," Thurman said. "We've been in line for the Mayweather shot for a minute but it doesn't matter who I fight in the welterweight division.

"I would love Floyd Mayweather. He's the man. Until the man retires, he's the man.

"I want to be a legend and the best way to become a legend is by taking out a legend, and that would be Floyd Mayweather."

While Thurman is undefeated, it's possible that Mayweather may consider a boxer with more drawing power to boost pay-per-view sales. English star Kell Brook also has an undefeated record, and could generate strong interest because of his British fanbase. Brook also made a name for himself by defeating highly regarded Shawn Porter.

But either Thurman or Brook would be a financial letdown for Mayweather in what could be the last fight of his career. The consensus opinion is that a fight against a Mexican boxer would bring about a great deal of interest, but there is no available elite Mexican boxer in the division. Canelo Alvarez, who Mayweather defeated in 2013, is reportedly interested in fighting Miguel Cotto.

Mayweather is looking to finish his career as an undefeated champion. He has a 48-0 record, and is a win away from tying heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano's illustrious 49-0 record.
