He was a great blocker and receiver. Not saying Brown wasnt either, but I think Payton was a better receiver
This is your opinion. Stat wise...JB was better.

And how can you say that Walter was stronger, faster, more athletic and smarter than Brown?

Do you know anything about Jim Brown?

Actually stat wise Walter Payton had more catches and yards, while Jim Brown had more TDs, so I dont know what you're talking about:

Walter Payton:
Catches | Yards | Avg | TDs
Total - 492 | 4538 | 9.2 | 15

Jim Brown:
262 | 2499 | 9.5 | 20

Yes, do you know anything about Walter Payton? Both Running backs punished defenders, but as I mentioned above, Jim Brown played against smaller, mostly white defences. Shits stupid to argue anyways, it's like whos stronger? Bruce Lee or Jet Lee? No one knows, we only have opinions.

so I dont know what you're talking about:
Average and TD's.

Walter also played longer, so.....

Fuck the rest...everyone and their mama knows Jim Brown was the G.O.A.T.

Bears fans just have their rose colored goggles on.

Lmao, ok. Everyone knows The Sweetness was the best running back of all time. Jim Brown played back when the average linebacker weighed like what, 180?
He also played in an era when there was only 12 games in a season and the running back hadnt evolved yet...he was ions ahead of his time...

Best running back off all time is still a big discussion..some say Payton...some say Brown...others say Sanders or Emmitt....

In Football...you cant really say who was/is the best player ever....unlike baseball(Ruth) or b-ball(Jordan) or even gay ass hockey(Gretzky)....football...you have to go by position...

AND for the record...i AM a Bears fan...

So..doesnt this kinda AGainst youre arguement???I meanyeah....WP had MORE catches and yards...but the average and TD's are....in my eyes....more important...and just imagine if Brown HAD the same amount of yards/catches as WP...he quite possibly could have had 2X the amount of TDs....

The average was almost EXACTLY the same. 0.3 difference...

Also, no one is addressing the fact taht Jim Brown was playing in the 50s when blacks were the minority.

Anyways, I hate debating in these kinds of topcis...who would win in a fight? Bruce lee or Andre the giant? pointless.

IMO, payton is best, sanders 2nd, brown 3rd, but thats IMO. Biased, I dont think so but then again I cant change the fact that Im from chicago.

Because it should be a non-issue. He's not as good because he was playing against mostly white people?

Just out of curiosity...why do you think Sanders was better than Brown?

Yeah I do think that is an issue. Like mentioned earlier, Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points against a bunch of little white guys, does that make him the greatest? Of course not. IMO the same applies with Brown and the time period he played in (1950s-1960s).

Just out of curiosity...why do you think Sanders was better than Brown?
For one Barry had moves that no other player had, he had some real body contortionist type shit going on the field. He played on a shitty team his entire career- the O-line always sucked ass but yet he still managed to make big plays.
If he didn’t retire early, he would have beat Walters record easy, and IMO the only player worthy of that title (no way do I see Emmit Smith anywhere near the top of best running backs). Barry, again, also played, IMO, during a time when speed and size was much greater than that of Browns era.

Yes, blocking and recieving. Also, Walter Payton was a great QB, Punter, and plenty of other positions. He could do it all, and no one ever speaks bad about the man. Just a hard working respectable player, something we don't see these days. Jim Brown was no joke, I just like Walter better.
Great QB? That's a bit of a stretch. If he was, than so was Brown.

Jim Brown played other positions too. You like Payton better, good, but don't say he was more of a complete player just because of that.

I cant find any stats online, but I know that W. Payton actually threw a lot of passes, many of which were TD passes (a couple of which he actually threw to Jim McMahon!) and even kicked a few field goals/extra points (and also was a great kick/punt return). I honestly have no idea if Jim Brown threw a lot of passes or not, that's one area where I admit I dont know about Brown.

how can you be a bears fan an say Barry is Better then Brown, an not mention Gayle Sayers????????????

I am readin how Barry had these moves no one else had.......Gayle was doin the same shit in the sixties, against " littler smaller, white guys" an got his knee tore apart...

Jim Brown didnt need to throw passes homie, he could run it in just as easy.an the numbers arguement, you would need to go back to the end of 1982 season with Payton to compare his stats against Browns. thats with 2 more games a year also..you guys might be young so I will remind you that Payton broke Browns Record in 1984 towards the ends of the season.
an I cant believe you think Payton was bigger an stronger. Jim Brown when playin was taller, weighed more then Payton....an their wasnt many players in those days that were stronger then Brown

one question for everyone arguing for Payton.. do any of yall still have a grandfather that is alive? if so call him up an ask what he thinks

like I said before, Payton is my favorite player in the world, but Jim Brown is the football player of all time.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I didnt read that people think Emmit Smith is the best ever? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Jim Brown didn't throw alot of passes, but then again, this was back in the 50's, 60's. Still, most RB's don't even throw that many times...if at all.

Jim Brown -
Passing: 12-4-117, 3 TDs; Kickoff Returns: 29-648

Walter Payton -
Passing: 34-11-331, 8 TD, 6 Int; Kickoff Returns: 17-539

really man you just supported the argument for payton...brown played in an era where he was pretty much dominating, defenders were alot smaller and weaker... look how fuccin big he was. payton on the other hand was playing was playing with bigger, stronger, and more talented defenders...how come yall dont seem to understand this? when lookin at the better player you cant just go by their stats (even though payton broke his record despite the extra 2 yr argument) but you also have to look at the opponents the players was up against

I didnt mention Sayers for the same reason I think Brown isnt as good as Payton. IMO Gayle COULD HAVE been one of the greatest, but unfortunately his career was cut waaay to short.

Sadly it's true! I've met a few of these dullisional texans!

Contagious Loc - you are missing somthin though homie, Brown ran the ball damn near every play. they didnt throw anywhere near as much as in Paytons time, so he had the box stacked against him.

this is gonna be neverending, I cant sway none of you.....an no way in hell is anyone gonna sway me.

they were both the shit

I bet Gimpy has been there, but if you ever get a chance to be around Cleveland..........go check out Canton. they have a a few video machines, an you type in a players name an there is HELLA highlights of him. I spent a couple hours on that damn thang. you can watch all the bad ass rb's.
