Premieres Nov 6th. What you think? Has potential?

I'm going to give it a chance since I've been pretty impressed with AMC shows in general. Plus, I want to see some Indians fuck shit up

Series overview

Set in the 1860s at the beginning of Reconstruction, the series follows Cullen Bohannon, a former Confederate soldier, who is determined to exact revenge on the Union soldiers who murdered his wife. His quest for vengeance sends him westward to Nebraska's "Hell on Wheels," the lawless town that moves with the construction of the transcontinental railroad. However, things get complicated when a Cheyenne tribe attacks the construction of the railroad, determined to destroy the project because it is being built through their lands.

All sounds good to me except for Common being in it. I don't like rappers who try to be actors. To me it's just as bad as actor's who try to be rapper's.

I'll give it a try, but that is one corny as fuck name for a show we're supposed to take seriously.

I think it is bullshit that they cast Common in this show too. If The Wire showed us anything it is the number of high quality black actors that are out there. Is casting Common going to bring in viewers? I doubt it. So why not cast a serious actor?

^^It's possible he impressed the casters when they were casting the show and it didn't have anything do with him being Common. Maybe they felt he was perfect for the role, etc.

But you're most likely right. Him being in the show and the name are the two things that give me doubts about it.

I refuse to accept this as a possibility. It is well known I think quite highly of myself, but if what you said is true I should have a job casting TV & Movies instead of what I do now because these people are fucking retarded.

Out of all the rappers-turned-actor, I actually think that Common is one of the very best with respect to his ability to act (within his scope). The thing about Common, though, is that he is inherently typecast into the same role. If not for his rap career, it is because of his demeanor in general and just the way that he looks. I thought his limited role in Smokin' Aces was dope. WITH THAT SAID, I understand why people are thrown off by him being in this show. And truth be told, even as a "fan" of his, I would agree that, on the surface, this show takes an immediate hit by casting him as a cowboy.

am i the only one who feels this is just like deadwood? i sa the teaser trailer or whatever and that's all i can think of. well they gonna have there work cut out for them trying to be better then deadwood which is extremely unlikely. but like everyone said, thanks to breaking bad and walking dead i will give this show a chance.

As I was writing that, I took a minute to reflect on any rapper-actors I could think of that might be better than Common. The first (and only) person to come to mind was Mos Def. Specifically his role in 16 Blocks which I thought was well done.
