Eric Chavez reiterated his desire to rehab through his neck injury and his belief that it is not a career threatening injury in a text message to Susan Slusser
When he was placed on the disabled list, Chavez sounded a lot less sure of these facts, but he may have gotten some good news in the intervening period. There hasn't been any new information as to how long he could be out with the injury, but if he's determined to make it back to A's lineup, we'll keep an eye on his progress. He was hitting just .234/.276/.333 with one home run and 10 RBI in 33 games before this injury.
Coco Crisp wasn't in the lineup Sunday and Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that he may have pulled a muscle in his side while swinging in Saturday's game.
If true, it would be a highly-disappointing development for the injury-prone Crisp. Saturday represented only his second game back from the disabled list. Manager Bob Geren didn't speak to the media after posting his lineup Sunday, so all this is speculation. But check back later for an update on Crisp. For players of his ilk, no injury is minor.
A's signed LHP John Halama to a minor league contract.
The 38-year-old Halama was released by the Brewers in March. He joined the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League and went 2-2 in six starts with a 1.62 ERA over 39 innings. He posted a 4.48 ERA in 16 outings last season at the Triple-A level. Halama will provide organizational depth.
