Eric Chavez reiterated his desire to rehab through his neck injury and his belief that it is not a career threatening injury in a text message to Susan Slusser
When he was placed on the disabled list, Chavez sounded a lot less sure of these facts, but he may have gotten some good news in the intervening period. There hasn't been any new information as to how long he could be out with the injury, but if he's determined to make it back to A's lineup, we'll keep an eye on his progress. He was hitting just .234/.276/.333 with one home run and 10 RBI in 33 games before this injury.

Coco Crisp wasn't in the lineup Sunday and Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that he may have pulled a muscle in his side while swinging in Saturday's game.
If true, it would be a highly-disappointing development for the injury-prone Crisp. Saturday represented only his second game back from the disabled list. Manager Bob Geren didn't speak to the media after posting his lineup Sunday, so all this is speculation. But check back later for an update on Crisp. For players of his ilk, no injury is minor.

A's signed LHP John Halama to a minor league contract.
The 38-year-old Halama was released by the Brewers in March. He joined the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League and went 2-2 in six starts with a 1.62 ERA over 39 innings. He posted a 4.48 ERA in 16 outings last season at the Triple-A level. Halama will provide organizational depth.

damn the A's have 13 hits but only 3 runs. they're batting 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position. Team Left on Base is 12 (wow!), and individual LOB is 23, with 3 players having 4 LOB each, and 2 others having 3 LOB (and everyone else except for Patterson and Sweeney, who both didnt start the game, have at least 1 LOB). that's the reason its tied.

Justin Duchscherer will undergo hip surgery and will miss the rest of 2010 season according to Susan Slusser.
He was trying so hard to avoid this procedure, but he simply couldn't. Dr. Thomas Byrd will perform a similar surgery on Duchscherer's left hip as he has performed twice on Duchscherer's right hip. It's a tough break for both Duchscherer and the A's. He's done for 2010, but if the surgery goes well, he could be back in 2011.

Joey Devine's rehab from the Tommy John surgery he had in April of 2009 took another step forward this week, as he threw off a mound with no pain.
Devine was supposed to have recovered by now, but rehab simply isn't always a linear process. He's working his way back to health and hopes to rejoin the A's in late July. Oakland's bullpen is near league average, so a healthy Devine would certainly be an asset to a 'pen that has been one of the league's most active units with 152 1/3 innings pitched so far this season.

Brett Anderson (elbow) told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that he will not throw for 10 days.
Anderson underwent an MRI on Friday which revealed inflammation, but no structural damage. "It's not fun to go on the DL," said Anderson. "But this is the best-case scenario." Keep in mind that Anderson missed five weeks with a forearm strain, so it's possible that this absence could be even longer. They'll obviously proceed with caution after handing him a four-year contract extension in April.

Athletics recalled RHP Henry Rodriguez from Triple-A Sacramento.
Rodriguez has an 8.10 ERA in three relief appearances over two stints with the Athletics this season. The hard-throwing right-hander has compiled a 2.40 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 22/7 K/BB ratio over 15 innings with Triple-A Sacramento this season.

Athletics recalled LHP Cedrick Bowers from Triple-A Sacramento.
Bowers was just sent back to the minor leagues last Saturday. He has allowed one run in one appearance with the Athletics this season and has a 2.75 ERA over 18 relief appearances with Triple-A Sacramento.

Athletics optioned C Landon Powell to Triple-A Sacramento.
Powell had three hits in seven at-bats during his most recent stint with the club. He is batting .261/.375/.370 in 46 at-bats with the Athletics this season.
