There is a hearing in NYC (no unexpected) next week to hear from Margarito's eye doctor to see if they will license him based on his eye injury. The hearing has nothing to do with the previous wrapping scandal. My instinct tells me it is a dog and pony show because I seriously doubt Arum would bring the show there, spend what he has already spent on the promotion, put tix on sale, etc... if he did not have certain assurances from the commission that this was a rubber stamp. But who knows? Anything could happen.

What are you telling Top Rank made a fight with without Margarito getting a license 1st, but Top Rank is whinning about Floyd putting a hold on the MGM for May 5th 2012 to fight Manny. LOL, double standards at it fines.

huh? that's not even close to being the same as both margarito & cotto negotiated and agreed to fight on that date, venue and everything else.

The only thing left is the state of NY to clear his health. Apparently top rank tried to get this done a long time ago but they couldn't get a hearing soon enough.

If it was up to Arum it would have been in Texas where there wouldn't be any problems but Cotto demanded it has to be in NYC it was part of the contract he wouldn't budge on.

How can you make a fight before your fighter is cleared to fight in that state, but whine about the MGM being placed on hold. It's just funny to me sounds like Top Rank is making there own rules. lol

I hope the Cotto vs Margarito 2 is made too.

you're comparing what floyd did (set the date & location w/o even talking to team pac first), to this situation where the fighters themselves negotiated, picked the venue, date, etc.

I don't think HBO would invest money in a 24/7 for a fight that may not happen so I'm guessing they feel it's going to be approved, but yes it's a gamble on their part if marg's is not cleared, obviously. But that wouldn't be because they didn't negotiate or anything like that, it's a medical issue at that point.

First off both fighters are Top Rank there was little to no negotiation Cotto got everything he wanted location, date, and catchweight.. Clearly Top Rank is cashing out on Margarito for one good pay day. Your job as a good promoter is to know if your fighter is medically clear to fight, before negotiating a fight in the first place. The more I think about it Top Rank is probably just getting hype for the fight.

Actually that's not true they negotiated for months. While they both have the same promoter they both have their own managers and own interests.

Top rank already has had doctors clear him they just have to prove it to the state.

And i disagree about top rank cashing out margarito arum has already said if he wins they have plans on him fighting sergio Martinez on PPV or chavez jr or mosley they have several attractive options for him already

I actually have margarito winning this fight... i didnt @ first but after thinking about it A LOT, and watching the first fight, i just dont see how cotto is going to stop marg from coming foward with punches! He couldnt do it a 147, so im not too sure he will be able to
@ 154....

okay got a hold of Tony's manager and here is what he said

it's all in regards to 1. Tony's license being expired in NY 2. NY wants to consult with his Doctors to make sure his eye is fit 3. they want to be sure everything is in the past (re: wraps)

as for Tony's eye being gone or shot or whatever he has near normal vision and while the structure around it is different it does not affect his vision. He can get the structure redone after he is done fighting but the doctor's primary focus was to ensure his vision was in tact

this fight is on 100%
