They should just do what SoundCloud does with their free vs. premium accounts. Give each account X number of minutes of videos that they can upload for free, and/or give them a cap of plays per week/month. Make them pay an annual subscription fee if they want to remove the limits. Keep the same ad system going and let the account holders use the ad revenue to pay for their account.

That way you make money off of the indie artists without cutting them out of the picture. Plus it would probably cut down on the amount of absolutely worthless shit that gets uploaded to YouTube.

Even though I agree with you, it's still bullshit on YouTube's part. That'd be like me offering to do something for you for free & out of the blue one day I tell you I'm going to have to start charging you.

It's simply Corporate America doing it's thing. The music industry is dying (close to flat line). The underground music scene even though it appears to be dying as well is still very much alive & kicking. A lot think the underground is dying because a lot of people are quitting rap, but those that are quitting were not built for this. Those of us who are still dedicated are still at it for one reason, the love.

We stepped into the game expecting nothing. It was all for shits & giggles. Then came the point of, maybe I can do something with this & on to the, "I'm going to blow up" stage. Now, most of us accepted what it is & are simply in it for the fun of it. The ones that quit are simply people who came in because they could do it on their home computer & thought they could blow up & make fast money. After one or a few attempts without making millions / blowing up, they moved it on out. Which I think it's a good thing.

The underground has dominated thanks to the internet. MySpace was the greatest thing to ever happen, but they lure us to Facebook etc. which have limitations & suck. YouTube was another great thing for us independent artist. Stars have been made from MySpace & YouTube, but what happens when something works too good? Corporate America buys into it to destroy the little guy. Much like what Clear Channel Radio has done.

I shit you not, I jumped in the car the other day to go to the store & the "Fancy" song was on the radio. I drove down to the store, took about 15 minutes inside (because I always run into people I know). Got back in the car, another song was ending & guess what?!?!?! That damn, "Fancy" song came on again like WTF?!?!?!?

Awhile back I took my kids to Universal Studios in Hollywood. With my kids in the car I always play the radio. When I got to L.A. the exact same songs that they were playing on the radio in my area were the same ones playing in L.A.

I seriously trip on stupid people who still think music & movies etc. get released in L.A. first. They still have the 80's mentality. Thanks to Clear Channel & the internet everything get's released worldwide at the same time.

The censoring by Google has been going on for awhile now, even tho they deny it. But the reality is that as long as websites that are dedicated to a certain genre of music exist, they will link us the page of the artist's video to however the artist decides to upload it. As long as indie artists realize that money gets made off good, heartfelt music, they will succeed anyways. But Google needs to stop the bullshit

listening to rush limbaugh or sports talk radio > garbage pop music on the radio 24/7/365. if ur an industry robot puppet like drake or lady gaga your songs get played 24/7/365 so the public gets brainwashed. if u refuse to become a industry puppet then u dont get radio airtime

i was on another forum the other day and said that lady gagas career tanked horribly. the lady gaga stans on there ranted on with 6 paragraph essay replies and shit. all in a futile effort to convince me that her career wasnt tanking faster than usain bolt runs the 100 meter dash. her career has tanked even faster after akon left the lady gaga regime

the youtube regime is eventually gonna only allow industry puppets like drake or that bum rick ross videos on there. there wont be anymore legendary videos like mistah fab "ghostride it" for free. it will be a pay per view scheme to watch bay area videos or any independent rappers

sometimes 2 stations that are allegedly "competitors" play the same song at the same fuckin time.....u know its goddam payola that enables that shit...kmel used to play nothin but bay area 24/7/365...the clear channel regime took over the station a few years ago...now except for home turf radio and the throwback at noon its the same 10 goddam songs every fuckin hour

there used to be a pirate radio station in phoenix that was 98.5 or 98.7...the station was only on from midnight to 3 am...the djs talked maybe 5 minutes a hour with maybe 5 commercials every hour...i think the clear channel oligarchy took over that station and now its bubblegum pop like drake or that bum rick ross

Look at it like this, and this applies to any form of social media where you upload and share content. The social media site (YouTube in this case) has essentially given you a free storage unit to put your shit in. When you signed up, you probably signed an agreement that says that they reserve the right to kick you out of their storage unit whenever they want for any reason. After all, you were getting free storage from them. They can delete your videos, facebook posts, instagram photos, etc. whenever they want.

It's always better to host content on your own website, and share it through your social media channels, so it leads fans/potential customers to a place you own and control. We can bitch and moan about corporate America all we want, but it's not going anywhere. You have to be in control of your content, so when something like this happens you aren't as effected.
