I used to work in food service for 9 1/2 years, it ain't easy takin' peoples iShh all day, but that's the nature of the industry.
Tips is actually an acronym for To Insure Proper Service.... see back in the day when going out to eat, customers would pay the tip before the meal. Now this seems appropriate to me, how about you? From a service standpoint, are you going to be more attentive to the guy w/ his date who slips you $100, or the family of 9 w/ gramma, and 4 screamin' kids who give you $11, simple math, simple concept. I think we should go back to that, then from the get you know what kind of service to expect...
Me, I'm an across the board 15% tipper for sub-par to adequit service, 20% for good to excellent, and 10% to a rude muthaf**ka, that's just me though...
I haven't had loot to go out to eat in a while, but that's my general rule of thumb...

Werd. I was a longtime waiter. We make ALL our money on tips. Almost ALL restaurants pay waiters minimum wage.
FYI.
