It's too hard to judge a YouTube video, the quality is shit. Either way, I think that Jeru song is just better, period.

Alls I know is I really miss that grimey sounding hiphop. The percussion was way better back then. Shit sounds too clean these days.

when I listened to the 9th wonder his drums didnt sound clean.but it sounds like something is layered over it to give it a dirtier sound..maybe a plug in or something

It could be layered, but it's not like there's anything bad with layering. I like doing it with my snares/claps especially, make em pop. Could be some heavy compression also. I like that sound, makes the drums sound nice n full.

You can't really compare these. First of all, it's on YouTube so you can't really get an idea of the quality. Second, Pete Rock is a god in the game. 9th just a child in comparison.

Will I Am is a fucking monster in the studio. He's probably the hottest producer right now! Believe that!

9th is cool, I'm getting kind of sick of him though. Pete's a legend. Blah blah.

Not sure, a Funky bassline? Sonically this video does sound & look better than any of the other examples, so if that's what your talking about, it's not really fair. It is a sick beat though even though it doesn't have much change up.

Quality... shmuality...Even when the quality is poor you should still be able to hearshit..My point is 9th uses samples...but i aint heard him really flip a sample that i thought was bangin..he utilized some samples and it made a good song..but nothing that snapped my neck back
