bottom line to me its just a fun album with interesting sounds throughout the whole thing. bound 2 is a great song but its almost boring in comparison with how traditional it is.

i've listened to the whole thing 10 times now, black skinhead like 30 times itself

I've skimmed through this and for the most part it's basically him rapping over a mix of industrial and power electronics as someone said on another board I lurk..

And while I do like some music from those two genres I've never really been a fan of Kanye's rapping so it doesn't do much for me. If I want to listen to some weird agro sounding music that borders on being rap music I'll stick to Death Grips and B L A C K I E.

My opinion does not really hold any weight here because I do not like any of Kanye's past work really... But I thought I would give this a chance.

And my verdict is...People actually listen to this shit??? Lol it is not very traditional obviously....But it just doesn't work....at all. Very mediocre IMO. And as far as HIP HOP goes.... This is hot garbage.

yeah ill never understand the hype. if this is the "rap" music u actively listen to you're not a rap fan

what does robert california say in the office about the black Eyed Peas?

"its rap music for people who hate rap music. its pop music for people who hate pop music, etc."

the same applies to this garbage ass music. and going along with what I Pukokeki said, I think Kanye just rides his name for the most part to sell his music. There's no deep musical quality to this shit, and its certainly not innovative. I dont even think he has a good ear for beats and i think hes subpar as a producer. he just expects everyone to dig his shit because he thinks HES the shit.

Please define a rap fan for me.

Also I'm pretty sure Kanye wasn't trying to make a rap album with this, which is the whole point.

That said I didn't care for whatever he was trying to do with this at all as I previously stated.

yes in 2013 genres have exploded and we dont want anything to be strictly defined anymore. I get that. whatever, the music scene has evolved. However, I rarely meet people who ONLY listen to rap, and therefore have some gauge as to what falls into that sound. Kanye can make whatever he wants, and I'm not saying this album is a rap album, but most idiots will group it in to the rap "genre", as it still does have rapping in it.

basically I dont give a shit about Kanye and I'm sick of people telling me that I have to listen to him or else I dont know what I'm talking about, as if he's the pinnacle of rap music. What i'm saying is cast him off, what does he have to do with rap music anymore?

More than anything i know i sound like that old guy who says "this generations music sucks", but it doesnt suck. If you strictly listen to rap, your ears should be trained enough to recognize this as garbage. Am I now being overly critical? Yes, but its because I'm stubborn about the shit I listen to and I take pride in taking the time to discover good rap music that has remained rap music. I want rap music to be strictly defined. I dont this shit thrown in with it. He doesnt deserve the recognition he gets and I dont think he should even be in the discussion of rap music

That's cool and all but from your first post where I asked you to define a rap fan I took it as if someone likes this, well then they can't like that (that being whatever your definition of rap is). It's how it came off at least and that didn't make much sense to me.

Any genre of music being strictly defined is a bad idea in my opinion just like anything being strictly defined in general is a bad idea. That's a whole different subject though.

That being said, I wasn't feeling the album that much. However, if it inspires the upcoming generation of rappers to try musical directions that don't sound like every other alphabet soup record label out right now then I can respect it on that level. Kanye still has a lot of influence as a rapper... Arguably not quite as much as someone like Kendrick Lamar right now but an album like this is definitely going to spark a lot of interesting conversations on rap in high schools/colleges throughout the country.
