i actually think the phone recordings were raw and added to the mystique.

not that mystic journeymen and grouch ever rapped over the phone, but once they started using regular studios as opposed to the 8 tracks, the quality of their music suffered (not sound quality, but tightness quality). different recording situations are often tied to a particular mind state, and the mind state is just as important as anything. i really do think X will excel once he hits a real studio, but I wouldn't be surprised if the sound becomes different either.

I'm curious how many rappers will work with him being he spent time in protective custody. In the eyes of some that's a big no no.
