platoon = 50-60 soldiers
company = 200- 300 people
Batallion = 1000-1500 people
Birgade = varing number of batallions 4-5
Division = 4 batallions
Core = 4-6 divisions

a squad is 8-10 soldiers, with an NCO for a squad leader
a platoon is 2 or more squads with a platoon leader (2lt or 1lt usually) and platoon sergeant (sfc) usually
so technically a platoon can consist of as little as 18 soldiers.

perhaps, but an infantry line platoon will 99.999999999999% of the time not consist of less then 4 squads. and that goes for most combat arms.
