PHOENIX -- Police arrested a Longmont woman Thursday afternoon, after she allegedly grabbed the breast of a Transportation Security Administration agent at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix.

Sgt. Steve Martos, of the Phoenix Police Department, issued a statement saying, “A woman entered the screening area in Terminal 4, became argumentative and refused to be screened by TSA staff.”

“During the argument, the suspect, Yukari Miyamae, 61, grabbed the breast of a TSA employee,” Martos said.

Now, many Coloradans are wondering if Miyamae was provoked or if she had an agenda.

Miyamae, who was released on her own recognizance, told 7NEWS that she is a journalist so she understands that people want answers.

“But I’ve been told not to talk to anyone until after I’ve visited with an attorney,” Miyamae said.

Anyone who flies commercially goes through security.

Some security measures, particularly the pat downs, are controversial.

"It's kind of an invasion of privacy, especially if you're a woman," said Sherry Engle, while waiting at Denver International Airport.

Engle said she can understand people being reluctant to go through security because of the invasiveness.

When asked what she thought of Miyamae's actions, Engle responded, "It probably wasn't the proper thing to do, but they do need to figure it out. To arrest her for it, I think that's kind of crazy."

Jay Dickman had a different take.

"She should face charges," he said. "It's inappropriate for her to do that. These people are just doing their job. They're not there by their choice. It's their job description."

Dickman added, "If you're flying, you accept the rules of flying too. That's something we have to go through. It's nothing any of us chose. But it's reality."

TSA issued a statement saying, "TSA officers work every day to protect the traveling public, and the agency will not tolerate assaults against its workforce."

There are questions about whether Miyamae was actually going through the pat down process herself.

Investigators aren't commenting about that yet.

I have experienced pat down before and the s--t wasnt worth making a fuss about....maybe some people had a "bad" pat down experience.....I always travel light anyway with practically nothing in my pockets so I can get to my gate quicker and avoid any unnecessary situations....

Call it giving up your freedoms if you want...boarding a plane is one of the few places I feel pat downs are necessary....they f--kin do pat downs before you enter most clubs, and I have never heard anyone cry "foul"...but when it comes to boarding a plane "its all bad?"....thats backwards...i'm talking strictly legit/appropriate pat downs...not coppin a feel and s--t....

All you have to do is look at the number of people who fly EVERY day, and how many complain about the security measures taken. Yea, some TSA people are probably taking advantage of their "authority", but it doesn't happen like people think. The news just loves controversy...so they report the complaints without mentioning how many DON'T see a problem.

I agree. I always wear basketball shorts, J's and a undershirt whenever Im going on a plane. I always passed thru security with NO problems. Never been patted down. Just thru the detectors and thats it.

How many "terrorists" has DHS, and the TSA caught? Factor that in with how much money the government has spent on their programs, and the lawsuits they've received because of them. It's pretty clear we don't need either one.

You think maybe the presence of the TSA and it's policies deter most people from trying to do some dumb shit? Just something to think about.

And the DHS exists to PREVENT shit from happening...not catch those who want to do something. That's what our intelligence agencies are for.

Just a little something to read...

That's common thinking I guess, but not realistic. If someone wants to do something, they will. Deterring a groups of radical people, with billions of dollars worth of unproven technology isn't the best plan in my opinion.

Also, I'd say that DHS is in the business of catching terrorists, but on many, many occasions hasn't been able to put forth the evidence for conviction in court. That's what takes away their credibility, IMO.

You also have to think about all the people who put up with these things. Not everyone wants to protest over a procedure that takes about a minute and the biggest risk being someones hand(s) grasping your genitalia. Its more or less a issue not big enough to make a deal out of.

Now if a homey is invading my cockpit for several seconds, best believe I'm gonna put him in check.

BUT, if their mission is to blow a plane out of the sky or crash it into something, they're going to have to figure out how to get around that security. There's a method to their madness...and they have objectives. If the target is not the crowd inside the airport, they're not going to blow themselves up at a security gate. Maybe one here and there might hit a "random" location, but it doesn't really fit the M-O.
