good point. hip hop covers all aspects, wheather it be gangster or whatever. when you think about it. all the early nineties late eighties emcees from the east coast that are considered to be the staples of hip hop were all keepin it gangster as fuck even though they werent considered to be so. k solo, gang starr, special ed, etc were all gangster!

To me theres a big difference between Hip Hop and Rap music.

Tha thang that pisses me off is the folks that are born in tha West but act like they liven in New York. I support any tight music but most hip hop to me is wack (shit most music nowadays is garbage). Tha hip hoppers out here don't support my shit by buying my cds so I don't support them. Its a mutual feelin.

I'll never forget something some "hip hoppers" said to me back in '97. At the time I was doing my Bay Area hip hop magazine and I covered all styles from out here. I was at a music convention and I approached the Mystik Journeymen with my magazine and was about to offer them an interview in the next issue. Before I could even offer the interview one of the guys looks at the cover and says "The Magazine Of Bay Area Hip Hop" (that was the sub-title of the mag). More like Magazine Of Bay Area Gangsta" because the issue had 11/5 on the cover. He didn't flip through the issue to see what was inside or anything. After that I took my mag back and walked away.

People with that hip hop holier than thou attitude make me sick.

See what mufuckaz need to realize is that IT'S ALL HIP-HOP!

From the wackest Cash Money shit, to C-Bo (one of the dopest west coast lyricists ever,) to Kool G Rap. It's all about what you like.

Like Moe said, "fuck those who try and divide us."

whether they be backpackers or wannabe thugs.

yup exactly.. throw Digital underground and Too short in there and its complete..

most the cats who separate rap and hip hop got intto it around the 90's.. but hip hop is the culture of the streets and rap = hip hop music... i hate when that shit is separated...

to me theres only two kinds of rap music wack or tight..

I completely agree with what you are saying when people develop an ego and look down at something. But I have to point it out, the artform is getting corrupted to the point where the people that do look down develop that ego.

I mean I am not gonna lie, I luv gangsta music but sometimes gangsta rap can get stupid if the topic is repeatedly blasted (about the size of your gun, shootin somebody and drugs and shit). I mean that shit's real, but sometimes "REAL" can get boring REAL FAST!

I wonder, have some of these rappers forget to be artists and be creative with the craft? Infact going to the point immitation by taking the style of highly noted gangster rap figures and trying to duplicate that kind of music for credibility/monetary purposes.

I personally think the best years were '91 to '96. I mean not many people now came as fresh as they did when artists came out in those years.

Mystic Journeymen, haven't heard from those cats in a long minute.
