I just got this from my relative that works for US Bank . . .

Now I'm sure we've all heard the stories of insane fees from all of
the large banks. There's websites dedicated to each of the largest
banks bad mouthing them for the fees they charge and the manner in
which they charge them. This is my story.

I was moving money from a savings account over to our checking and
then moving it out of the checking. I was trying to keep the money
separate from our checking as this was not our every day money, but
our rainy day money. Over the course of the month of January I moved
money between bank accounts 9 times. On the day that our statement is
created, all of the sudden there is a $45 withdrawal charge on the
savings account. No description, just a charge. I went to the US
Bank branch in the tower downtown to "discuss" the charge with the
bank.

After waiting for 20 minutes in their 30 year old furniture and
watching the branch manager walk past me to talk to a business banking
client, I was helped by a "personal banker". It was explained to me
that in the disclosure on the savings account its written that there
is a limit to 6 transfers per statement period. I asked why the
website didn't notify me when I had reached my limit or passed my
limit the first time. Of course there are no answers other than,
"this is a non-refundable fee". I asked to speak to the manager, the
"personal banker" talked to the manager and then informed me that they
were firm on the fees. I immediately withdrew the entire balance of
our accounts and will never bank with them again.

This was an eye opener for me. A company who through the entire
economic crisis, largely created by banks, maintained that they were a
"safe" bank and a "good" bank just stole $45 from me, an employee.
This is a company that just got done telling me at the all employee
event about our company slogan "All of US serving you". They talk
about 5 star service. This is how they treat their employees, how
would they treat a regular person that walks into the branch off the
street?

The eye opener is that I work for a piece of shit conglomerate bank
that will step on me just as fast as anyone. I suppose it is a useful
lesson to know how people think of you, but it doesn't feel good. My
recommendation, as an employee and an ex-customer, never bank with
this bank. Now I will draft this all in a letter, while on company
time and printed on company paper with a company printer, and see what
response I get when I send a formal complaint to the headquarters in
Minneapolis. Wish me luck.

That's dirty as hell. The sad thing is the company probably won't do anything about it even after your relative sends them the complaint.

Huge national banks and credit card companies pretty much participate in organized crime the way they steal and extort money.

that happened to me at wamu a few years ago

well, something similar

i was switching money back and forth between my checking and savings account online, cause i was depositing weird amounts that month like 50$ and 20$ and shiti every other day did it like... uh,, 12 times?

anyway they tried to charge me an "excess activity fee" for transferring money online too many times, i forgot what it was, but i think it was 18$ and they tried to do it like 5 times. i about hit the fucking roof but went in there and wamu took it off for me and apologized, and told me not to get caught up by the hidden fees with their "free online banking" again..

wamu was the shit for seeing the light.. but their generosity obviously didnt get them anywhere but swallowed by a larger bank (no marty)

sorry but whoever it was that got caught up in that is an idiot...ESPECIALLY IF THEY WERE AN EMPLOYEE, how do you not know your own companies policies????? I have had usbank for over 6 years and have 2 checking and 2 savings...THATS COMMON KNOWLEDGE!!!!! They tell you when you sign the paperwork to open the savings. you can transfer unlimited from checking to checking but from saving to checking its a max of 6. Im not sure but that may be a rule with most major banks.

and im not even a usbank employee...jesus!

not too mention why the fuck would you need to move money back and forth 9 times for a "rainy day" acct.

They don't work in a bank branch they work in finance managing mutual funds
hmm, still doesnt explain why they didnt know from signing up for the savings in the first place. Maybe they didnt read what they signed??? Like I said Im not even a banking employee much less for usbank, and I have known that since day 1 I was a customer of usbank.

and even if they skipped over reading what they signed, it stil ldoesnt answer why the hell they need to transfer back and forth 9 times. Thats not a rainy day acct. They need to get finances in order on the main checking before they fuck with a savings....and they work in mutual funds????

p.s. not trying to talk shit about fam or anything bro, just saying this proves why people need to read and pay attention to what they sign or are doing with thier money.

p.p.s i have worked in finance for over 15 years now.

I don't know why you need to move money like that, but does it matter? I think you should be able to transfer funds between your accounts as much as you want. It's a fully automated and computerized task that you don't need to be charged $45 for doing.

For some contrast my credit union has a limit on online trasfers, which I don't like, but once you reach that limit rather than charging you some outragious fee they just don't let you do them anymore for the month.

My CU lets me transfer as much as I want, no charge.

could and maybe should they either not allow it or have a warning sure....I agree, but at same time its on us to read and know what we are doing as consumers. And I also agree its our money, our accounts, and an electronic thing which they have no hands on so it shouldnt matter. like I said thats why have 2 checking accounts...the savings account is just that for saving...i use the 2 checkings to transfer unlimted between and such.

Chase is outrageous, excessive withdrawl fee of $25 to take from my savings if I made withdrawls 4 times a month

exactly, most big banks have this...again the main word in your post..SAVINGS!

Checking you have no problems with this because its your main account for funds......Savings have these rules because they arent meant to be used as a main source of holding most of your funds. A savings account is just as it implies, to save money, if yo uare transferring from more than one or 2 times a month thats not saving. Sure you may need to dip into savings for an unexepected bill, repair, just hard time...but if you need to get into that more then once or twice a month you probably shouldnt be using a savings anyway...thats why they give you (chase 4 usbank 6) a small amount to begin with free of movement.

I have two savings and two checkings with different CU's.

1 savings with HSBC online because they pay good interest and have unlimited transfers.

I'd never do business with a traditional bank when there is a CU as an option.

Just as another note my relative only has accounts with US Bank BECAUSE they are an employee and they offer some kind of perk if you have auto deposit for payroll or something, but whatever.

I guess the expectation would be that in the event something like this takes place they would defer to it being an employee and they would resolve it - at least the first time.

10000000% agree, in fact I had some bad times before and a couple ovedrafts and what not because I had deposited a check (non payroll always do direct deposit) and forgot the wait period before it clears, and usbank hooked me up covering all fees etc. if they do that for a customer you would fully expect them to take care of thier own.

At the same time, no one is forcing them to use that service. If they/you think you should be able to move funds as much as you want, then find a provider that accommodates.

You don't go to a Chinese restaurant and order enchiladas con mole and get mad when they don't have it.
