That's where all you cats go wrong. You can't force the music industry to submit to anything. They are a multi-billion dollar a year machine, you're nothing to them. It's not even a David & Goliath.

Nelly blew up but it wasn't because St. Louis was behind him and his success didn't do much for his region. Who else from STL blew up after him? Nobody. The only reason his click, the St. Lunatics managed to go platinum is because Nelly was on fire at the time, otherwise their shit wouldn't have cracked gold.

I'm tellin' you right now, a whole lotta cats failure in the business has to do with simply not understanding how it really works and focusing their time, energy and resources on the wrong things.

I'm not going to get into a big explanation of it all because that's already been done and you can search the forums to read it but I will say this... If you want to be a part of the music industry then you better STUDY the careers of people who have made it. I hear about cats dreams all the time but it's rare I come across someone who knows how and has a plan to succeed. ...And they're the only ones I'll ever put on.

You can do it but only if you're smart about it!

but the majority is just OUT FOR SELF.

why cant music just be music?

too many rappers in DAGO claim spacific sets.... thats not marketable.... its marketable to 1 hood, YOURS.

why not rep the city instead of the block? or rep the state instead of the city?

Realistically the consumer doesn't give a fuck if you're a "real" gangsta or a studio one. To a consumer the rapper is there for one reason, to provide entertainment. Period. The music business is an ENTERTAINMENT business. Period. Being a rapper under contract with <favorite record label here> is no different than being an actor under contract with MGM in Hollywood.

Repping a city or even a state is no different than repping your block. Do you think people in New York give a fuck about San Diego? No. People in Houston give a fuck about San Diego? No. Anyone anywhere outside of San Diego, give a fuck about San Diego? No.

The music industry is a business, bottom line. It is about creating products that are marketable to certain demographics. That's it man. If you look at it any other way, you're on the wrong page.

The bottom line is this... Being successful in the music industry has very very little to do with music and everything to do with being a smart & professional businessman. Truth be told, 99.9% of these cats who think they got it all figured out, they don't fall into that category and that's why they don't have a real career in it.

If you're aspiring to be in the music business, the very first thing you need to do is humble yourself. Next, do yourself a favor and do what I said... Study the people who have achieved success and more importantly WHY it happened. The answer goes a lot deeper than 'they never gave up'. That's common sense and it's only the beginning.

Dago rappers dont have 2 be on mtv or BET 2 blow up..we been in this bitch ever since master p started.check out mitchy, hes doin big things still reppin dago.knightowl,lil rob,and a bunch of others r still in it.mr shadow is maken it big wit baby beesh and them.The L.a rappers almost seem like they're in it for the fame and fortune.....
