hip hop and rap are different. they might rap in hip hop songz, but there'z a difference. saying they're tha same is like saying R&B and Country music are tha same. they both sing in their songz so why not consider them tha same? that'z how you guyz are looking at shit so you might as well apply it to everything that'z similar huh?

hip hop is that type of music that is commercialized. club music and shit like that is hip hop.
rap is harder. it has different vibes and generally soundz different from any hip hop artist.

HIP HOP is the culture as a whole and is alot more than just the music; "RAP".
HIP HOP doesnt automatically equal commercialized because so much of it is struggling underground too.
GANGSTA RAP, more specifically, is "harder" and it has both it's commercial AND underground artists.

Way I see it: Hip Hop is the way most people see the culture. They call it the Hip Hop culture etc. And Rap is the act of "rhyming." So do hip-hop artist hip-hop? No, they rap. And do Rap artist hip-hop? No. I think Rap is it's own culture. It seems to me that the West Coast has Rap and the east seems to have Hip Hop, though they both originated from the same thing. Rap seems to have broken off seems to be more street while hip hop is what anyone even little 4year olds can listen to. Will Smith is Hip Hop, Cube is Rap.

That was before Gangsta rap was really a term that had been coined. Hip hop is not just an east coast thing, i used to think differently though. Black eyed peas and hieroglyfics come to mind as far as hip hop. But then again, I don't see 50 cent or jay z as hip hop artists, i think they fall into rap. Like i said before, you will see stores start to split the differences between the 2 styles, because they are different
