If you withhold at a rate of single 0, you'll get more withheld. Then, depending on how high your adjusted gross income is in the tax bracket, your overall tax pecentage will go up.

If I had an income of 72,000 I owe taxes of $13,006.25 or 18%
If I had an income of 42,000 I owe taxes of $5,506.25 or 13%
(just took one standard deduction for these numbers)

Funny thing is, i should be in a higher tax bracket for what i make...yet i did NOT get bumped up when i got my raise.

Yeah she can amend it. Even if she had the baby Dec. 31 at 11:55pm and the doctor went nuts and 11:56pm and decapitated the baby, she'd still be able to claim it for that year.

Look on page one under Exemptions, line 6 c. #4 and see if it is checked for the child tax credit to make sure there was no misunderstanding. If it is not checked, you redo your 1040 and attach it to the back of a 1040x that you fill out and mail it in.

how the HELL did that happen
Shit I had additional deductions other than claiming 0. I withheld an additional $50 from every check. I get paid bi-weekly. Last year I got back $3100 since I was getting paid weekly because I was a temporay employee. I actually had $50-60 witheld from each check last year also.

I'd rather get a nice lump sum at the end of the year knowing that I spend money faster than I make it. I look at it as a pre-savings account even though it would be more wise to just throw the $50 in a savings account and let the interest build. All good tho. I like the direction I'm taking.
