man there is still LOTS of people out here that dont like brees....its like a everyday topic on the radio shows. when they lose, no matter what they blame it on brees....its comedy sometimes...this could really blow up in their face, but their general manager has pulled some nice moves since he started a couple years back.....the only thing thats for sure, some team is going to get a decent QB next season.

Brees or Rivers in 2005?
Posted: December 6, 2004

Does it make financial sense for the Chargers to keep quarterbacks Drew Brees and Philip Rivers on the roster next year? It would be a real luxury, like steak and lobster.

Because Brees would have to be designated a franchise player at a price of about $9 million, the salary cap hit for both players would be approximately $12 million, and the 2005 cash cost would be about $19 million.

Trading Rivers wouldn't be easy to swallow; the Chargers will have invested nearly $9 million in him by the end of the season. A trade likely would force the Chargers to take a 2005 salary cap hit of $6.375 million on Rivers.

Making Brees the franchise player and trading him is the most logical option, but even that is not simple. Brees would have to approve any deal because he would likely have to sign a long-term contract in order to be dealt. So the Chargers would be at the mercy of the player and their trading partner. What's more, Brees would be taking up a lot of cap space until he was traded, which could limit the Chargers in signing free agents.

all they gotta do is hide rivers in that offense......safe passes, quick drops, and then run, run, run. the schedule is favorable. we'll see what happens. obviously the shoulder injury to brees changed everything. i think that new orleans over paid for him and will take my chances with rivers. the only good thing out of this is that rivers knows the system, hes been in it for going on three years.....he needs to really study defenses though and that might take awhile......

expect 8 in box all the time. LT will last the season. look at LT LAST YEAR -barely ran the ball during the end of year. i dont understand chargers thinking, with brees injury you should just fanchise tag or give a 1 year deal - that what he wanted and see what happens, if he doesnt come back, you just have to pay for that year. i see chargers winning 4-8 games next year.

TWO THINGS..................... LT played with a broken rib for about the last 5-6 games of the season...........the other thing is that the chargers did offer brees a contract, brees is the one that declined it. he wanted way too much money for a guy who is coming off of not only a torn labrum but also a rotator cuff.....in fact that is the reason the dolphins pulled thier offer off the table...if brees was so hot then why did he only have one team pursue him?

dont get me wrong, i would have liked to keep him also but he wanted way too much money. only a desperate team was going to offer him that kind of contract, guess what? a desperate teamm did. the way that his contract is worded with the saints, he is either going to have to restructure his contract after next season or its going be be a one year deal....

i dont think the offense is going to change at all, i think it stays the same..rivers will have growing pains but we'll see what happens
