Just a quick question ive been pondering...

White kids get a lotta flack for "acting black"..but my mother posed a very funny question to me the other day..

"Why are you doing that white people shit"?-love her to death but not the most umm OPENMINDED.

This question was brought on with my recent fascination with getting piercings, my longstanding fascination with tats, and spinning System of a Down 24/7. I never thought of doing these things as a white/black issue, just things i like. A few more things that have been brought to my attention by other black people:

I try very earnestly not to speak like i dont have an education, most of the time.

I dont follow christianity- i believe in universal order and am very quick to talk about it in the middle of a religious discussion.

Oh NO the BIGGY! SHHH! idatewhitemen and whoever else i might find yummy and delicious, regardless of the flavor

This stuff doesnt qualify as trying to be someone im not. I think acting like i did a few years ago(Ignorant) was not being myself.

But does not spinning rap/r&b, running to a baptist church and preferring a coffee shop to a club on fri,sat make me less black?..lol..

What DEFINES A RACE AND A CULTURE?

Im just amazed that people still think like this.

WELCOME TO THE CHOP SHOP.

White kids get a lotta flack for "acting black"..but my mother posed a very funny question to me the other day..
"HOW CAN ONE "ACT BLACK"?

"Why are you doing that white people shit"?-love her to death but not the most umm OPENMINDED.
YOU LOST 100K IN COMPANY STOCK AND SHOT UP THE PLACE?
This question was brought on with my recent fascination with getting piercings, my longstanding fascination with tats, and spinning System of a Down 24/7.
I'D RATHER BUMP AUDIOSLAVE, WHITE STRIPES, STP OR ALICE N CHAINS.
TATS SUCK.
I never thought of doing these things as a white/black issue, just things i like. A few more things that have been brought to my attention by other black people:
OK ARE THESE THINGS THAT PEOPLE SAY *YOU* SHOULD OR *SHOULDNT* DO?

I try very earnestly not to speak like i dont have an education, most of the time.
OK FO SHO DAWG I BE'S UNDAHSTANDIN WHAT CHU BE SAYIN UP ON DIS DER SICKNESS MUSSEGE BOAD

I dont follow christianity- i believe in universal order and am very quick to talk about it in the middle of a religious discussion.
I DONT UNDERSTAND THE RELEVENCY OF THIS STATEMENT. SO YOU BELIEVE IN UNIVERSAL ORDER (WHATEVER THAT IS) WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH BEING BLACK?
Oh NO the BIGGY! SHHH! idatewhitemen and whoever else i might find yummy and delicious, regardless of the flavor
YOUR PREFERENCE YOU'RE THE ONE WHO HAS TO LIVE WITH THAT PERSON...NOT ME.

PERSONALLY I WOULD NEVER DATE A WHITE WOMAN. JUST A MATTER OF PREFERENCE.

This stuff doesnt qualify as trying to be someone im not. I think acting like i did a few years ago(Ignorant) was not being myself.
ELABORATE ON WHAT YOU DID A FEW YEARS AGO.
But does not spinning rap/r&b, running to a baptist church and preferring a coffee shop to a club on fri,sat make me less black?..lol..
IF YOU ARENT INTO RAP AND R&B THATS YOU. I *HATE* R&B (SISSY MUSIC) AND I FIND MOST RAP TO BE RECYCLED...ESPECIALLY WHEN 674,345,387,999, COMPOSERS/PRODUCERS USE THE *STOCK* KEYBOARD/SYNTH SOUNDS.

BAPTIST CHURCH? A 501C3 ONE MOST LIKELY. GOD IS GREAT. CHURCH IS APOSTATE. READ AND RESEARCH ON YOUR OWN. DO *NOT* BELIEVE AN ATHIEST OR THEIST UNTIL YOU HAVE STUDIED FOR *YOU*.

COFFEE SHOP? MOCHA FRAPACHINO (IS THAT HOW YOU SPELL IT?)

I DONT CLUB...I HONESTLY WISH GOD WOULD DESTROY EVERY SINGLE WHORE WHO SHAKES HIS OR HERS ASS EVERY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT....

What DEFINES A RACE AND A CULTURE?
HISTORY WOULD HELP DEFINE IT....THATS ONE EXAMPLE.

Re: WELCOME TO THE CHOP SHOP.

1. I have no idea how one acts any particular "race"..just not being oneself expresses itself unnaturally.

2. The baptist church thing? My family is southern, north florida, they have certain notion on how black people should praise god. In the worst outfit you can find, sit in a church thats 100 degrees, and then stuff yourself with madddd cholestorol(sp?) and interact with the people you dont like.

3. Im'a Linkin Park, Korn, System, St. Anger loving kinda gal, but i like alll music just prefer to listen tot he above 75% of the time.

4. A few years ago? I ran around acting thuggish, drinking forties, snorting tweek and getting locked up for things ill regret for the rest of my life=)

5. I prefer a good Chai Tea Latte to a Frap anyday..lol

!

Lol like i totally dont talk like you know a valley girl..
no i just talk, i guess it doesnt come out "black" enough for some people.

I have found a very sufficient higher power i believe in.

And we will not even go there on bands!..lol

Chai is a mix of spices and latte just means with milk..good stuff

Now im very self accepting- and yes peoples ignorance(even my mothers) irritates me, but i feel pretty good about who i am. I didnt pose these scenerios because i second guess myself..its more or less seeing if other people get the same shit.

and with all the discussion of "wiggers" and stealing black culture, does this mean im stealing "white culture"?

^^^^ lol! Yeah I would consider that "valley" not "white".

HIGHER POWER???????

when it comes to bands you know what time it is...

spices...what kind? five spice?

Quick question did your mom grow up around blacks, whites or a mixture of both (or other races/nationalities)

I wouldnt say its stealing white culture. BLACKS MADE ROCK AND ROLL.

BLACKS HAD PIERCINGS AND TATTOES (SO DID OTHER RACES) BEFORE IT BECAME "IN".

DRINKING COFFEE DOESNT MAKE YOU "WHITE"...

NONE OF THE THINGS YOU DO ARE "EXCLUSIVE" TO "WHITE" CULTURE.

Chai-black teas, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, clove, ginger Etc...these are the basics youll find in chai

Now i KNOW the history of things im into for the most part.and i dont think they're exclusive to white culture...

It some small minded people who have maybe not got that far..

My parents were raised in the time when theyre mothers where cleaning "white folks" homes for mere nothing. and getting treated like slaves to do it. And getting called niggers, darkys, and colored, everyday in school.

I can get why some older folk maybe set in theyre ways.
..What makes us black?> Skin tone? obviously..an appreciation of black history and struggle? sure, thats why i choose not to go to jail anymore and go to college.

It's just these little day to day things people associate with cultures.Or is it just stereotyping?

A lot of "customs" that are practiced by certain races and peoples are exclusive. It doesnt mean that outsiders CANT practice them...well in some cases they CANT.

You wont see african americans practicing Hmong customs.

If you RESPECT the people they will SHARE with you.

:H:

ps think about techniques, stories and secrets that are passed down from generation to generation. are they close guarded?

Some of the things that define a culture is the music, language, food, clothing, oral traditions.

You can't act "black" because black is a skin color and not a culture. We have a lot of black people around the world with different cultures.

Broadd, I feel you 100 percent on this.

My girl is a "whitewashed" mixed girl and she experiences more racism from black people for being "high yellow","uncle tom", "thinkin she better than everybody else", etc, than she has from white people, ever.

And then when she says she dates white guys thats the nail in the coffin right there. Yesterday she was like "I would probly have less hassle in my life if I never talked to Black people again, ever", and she was bein 100 percent real. This from a black woman. The average black person does not accept other black folks acting outside of their accepted norm for the most part.

thats what tripps me out about my people........we are very racist againt our own people....that stuff has got to change before we address other problems plaguing the black community. we have serious identitiy issuses that need to be remedied
