I would have to say all three ... Since the 80's rap has been 50% Imagination and 30% politics and 20% real. Lynch never ate nobody babies, Snoop hasn't pulled no 187 on a cop, Most rappers haven't killed nobody,made raps about cars they would love to have but didn't have the car in tell after the album dropped. Everybody has sold drugs at one point in time in they life but these rap cats go over board with the bricks. It's like this though these cats wouldn't be going in the booth and saying this shit if people didn't want to hear it.

True... but a lot of time emcee's use the booth as their outlet as a sort of therapy from the streets... If they didn't have it, they probably would be locked up for doin' those type of crimes... You're right about some rappers doin' it just for shock value, or because that's what's popular... but some people really feel that way...
