Red Tails

0/10

I got about 10 minutes into the movie before I turned it off. This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, the acting is horrible.

The Company Men

Decent movie. Predictable ending. Nothing stands out here. Everything was mediocre and predictable. Just another movie about the failing economy. Not a bad movie, don’t get me wrong, just nothing to make it good/great.

Adventureland

Out of everything to take away from this movie the one thing that I kept thinking throughout was “I hate Kristen Stewart”. She really sucks. I expected this movie to be a comedy or at least funny at times. It wasn’t. Kristen Wiig is nearly as useless as Kristen Stewart. Probably the worst I’ve seen Ryan Renolds and even though he wasn’t playing his typecast cooler than you obnoxiously humorous douche he still wasn’t anything special in this. It was too long and too “romantical”. I tried to fast forward at the end, but the stream froze and I didn’t want to waste 5 more seconds on this movie so I just turned it off.

1.5 out of 5 because I couldn’t even finish it

Attack the Block

Expected more humor, but didn’t miss it so much. Special effects were surprisingly good at time and low budget poor at others. Probably should be made into a U.S. version, but I’m not sure it would translate as well nor would it be able to pull off sales with the R rating it would need to maintain the essence of the film. Expected more Nick Frost, or at least him to be more than just there, he wasn’t. No high expectations – wasn’t let down and wasn’t surprised.

The Black Power Mixtape

Should have called it: “A bunch of bourgeois musicians sit around and talk about Angela Davis and Stokely Carmichael”. The best of this movie was the footage and the actual interviews themselves. The voiceovers by “conscious” musicians were lame. I would have liked to see more of the footage. I felt the movie was too Davis and Carmichael centric. Started to drag at the end.

A young boy has lost his mother and is losing touch with his father and the world around him. Then he meets Hesher who manages to make his life even more chaotic.
Hesher is a loner. He hates the world and everyone in it. He has long greasy hair and homemade tattoos. He is malnourished and smokes a lot of cigarettes. He likes fire and blowing things up. He lives in his van, until he meets TJ.
so I've had this movie on my DVR for like a month, finally decided to watch it. and man am i glad i did! This movie was fucking hilarious! its a pretty serious movie but the humor in it is awesome. the ending was kind of cheesy, especially with the slow-motion but it was a feel good moment in a movie of a horrible streak of bad luck and heartache for the characters, and i thought it was fitting. i havent seen an original movie like this in a long time, and im glad i took the time to watch it. sweet movie, check it out if you have some freetime. just watch it and enjoy, dont go reading a bunch of shit beforehand or over-anylyzing it lol. it'll start off funny and bizzarre and you wont know what the hell is going on, but it makes sense near the end, and its at that point you realize the movie has some power behind it

I watched 2 out of the 3 Terry Gilliam-directed movies that he didn't write.

1. The Fisher King (1991) starring Jeff Bridges as an 80's shock-jock with a ponytail and psychotic hobo Robin Williams at his best. I loved it. Hilarious, sad, sweet. It was kind of a like a kid's movie for adults, if that makes sense. 8/10

stream it here

2. 12 Monkeys (1995) starring Bruce Willis as a time-traveler trying to save the world while keeping his sanity and Brad Pitt in a great supporting role. I thought it was really good & I was entertained throughout. The ending kind of left something to be desired but overall still a great film. Also 8/10. 8.5 if it had a more satisfying ending.

stream it here

I think Terry Gilliam is a master. His films are somewhat disturbing yet highly enjoyable (Fear and Loathing, anyone?). I look forward to more.

semi corny, semi creepy belgian/italian horror flick from 1971 with 7 deadly sins theme. 7 tourists comes to old mansion to spend a night over and mansions owner is old baron with family curse over him. also succubus comes to mansion and her mission is to kill every tourist. so it was semi corny and semi creepy with great soundtrack and a lesbian sex scene. good watch
