The Trotsky

It was decent, mildly entertaining/funny. Not nearly as good as the trailer looked.

Basically, the plot is this kid believes he's the reincarnation of Leon Trotsky (played by Jay Baruchel who I thought was good for the role). He thinks this because he has the same birth name (Lev Davidovich Bronstein) and some other coincidences to Trotsky as well. The plot basically is around Bronstein trying to get students at his school to form a union (as if that's so revolutionary) and a bit of a love story as well as he falls for an older women, named Alexandra, who as you guessed, is the name of the wife of the real Leon Trotsky. Overall the movie fell way short of my optimistic expectations, especially after seeing an interview with the director/writer who said he was a communist in his youth (although that should have been a clear sign then and there that he has since abandoned those views).

I believe the directer really dropped the ball on this film. First off, he initially intended for this story to be a drama (which he wrote when still a teenager), but later changed it to a comedy as it was "too serious" and "depressing". H He should have went with his first instinct. But being a comedy isn't that bad in itself, for story like this it could have worked. But the director basically took the easy way out and instead of inserting real issues that exists with the youth and society, real historical facts and at least a personal struggle one would imagine dealing with if you're trying to live exactly like Trotsky, he just made it youthful, fluffy kind of pointless movie with very little to do with the real Trotsky and communism, or even social problems. Which begs the question: why even make the movie in the first place then if it's going to completely void of all these things?

watched "rampage"

A man with a thirst for revenge builds a full body armor from Kevlar and goes on a killing spree.

i didnt really like it. i thought the main character was a whiny asshole and the movie shouldn't have ended like it did.

tried to watch "stand by me", fell asleep ten minutes into it.

watched "the pianist"
it was a pretty good movie. the main character was kind of a lame though. he pretty much lived like a scared rat the whole movie.

watched "true lies"
if you can get over how corny it all is and just focus on the action and the comedy holding it all together its a good movie

watched "the people vs larry flynt"
pretty good movie. courtney love was born for the role of aids infected drug whore

Primal Fear – Knew pretty soon into the movie what the end would be. Really the only thing that kept me watching was to see if I was right. Richard Gear mugging for the camera the whole movie. Ed Norton, just being Ed Norton. Not compelling. 2 out of 5

Miami Blues – Alec Baldwin plays an asshole pretty well. Some pretty bad acting throughout the movie. Very cheese ball dialog and the whole thing has this late 80’s feel to it. Wasn’t impressed, had to fast forward a bit, but I stayed awake. 1.75 out of 5

Art of the Steal – Great movie. Really worked the emotions to get you mad at what happened. Compelling. You keep wishing for the best to happen, but things get worse and worse. You don’t need to be into art to enjoy this movie. Only thing about it is there really is no need for me to ever re-watch it. I would if someone wanted to see it who hadn’t, but I’m not going to be replaying it now that I’ve seen it. 4.5 out of 5

Appaloosa – Good western. Good acting for the most part. Except for Rene Zelweger – I think this is the ugliest she’s looked in a movie – who just doesn’t seem like she could act her way out of a bag. Good casting even among the small characters. Didn’t know Jeremy Irons was in it until the movie started which was a nice surprise. I think the movie may have benefited from a different main character. Ed Harris writing, directing and staring I think did a disservice to the work. He had a vision in his mind for the character and I think it may have been spiced up a bit by someone else’s take. The film just seemed to lack something so that’s where I’m choosing to lay the blame. Overall still good and worth seeing 3 out of 5

Just got done watching The Doom Generation for the first time in probably over a decade and now I remember the only reason I liked this movie before was the fact that Rose McGowan has great tiddies and we get to see them like 10 times, other then that the movie is pretty fuckin retarded, normally retarded b-movies keep me entertained with some lulz, but this movie is retarded and boring at the same time, basically the movie resets every 20 minutes and they re-do the same plot every 20 minutes, they drive down the highway, same plot and jokes again, then lame ending.

2/5, would've been 1/5 but Rose McGowan, Areolas breh and good music gave it an extra point.

Horsemen with Dennis Quaid

It's an ok film. The ending was a little weak for me as it left some characters unaccounted for, but the story was pretty cool aside from that.
