I could do a quick search and find out what the industry thinks are the best mics for recording vocals but I'd rather check to see what you guys preffer using.

So what do you guys recommend on a $100-$200 budget?

Any help is appreciated

We just wanted a good mic for recordin at home to get a feel of what we'll do at a studio. We're still going to out source for our recording. At least for now.

Wow lmao........ Um if you think $500 is alot for a mic then you would proably shit your pants if you seen what some classic mics go for.

And I also own a C1 and its a great mic for the money.

if you get a Nuemann U-87, then you'll need a great room(accoustics) great A/D a great preamp...etc

it's not worth havin a U-87 and a good set up...
you need great to make it work

but from what i heard, the U-87's these days aren't the same quality they used to be...

I got the Rode NT1000, the last month. Runs around 300 dollars but well worth the money, make your vocals sound clean as fuck

Honestly, I recommend saving your money until you can afford something that's not some bullshit.
SO WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THE MARSHALL MXL 2003 MIC??? CUZ YOU CAN GET THAT RIGHT NOW FOR BOUT $140, AND I THINK ITS A GREAT MIC, I LOVE THE VOCALS I GET FROM IT, I CANT BELIEVE HOW CHEAP IT IS... I RECORD SINGERS AND RAPPERS, AND EVERYONE ALWAYS COMPLIMENTS ME HOW GOOD THEY VOCALS COME OUT.... I HAVE A JOE MEEK VC1Q PRE AMP WHIC IM SURE HELPS, BUT EVEN THAT AINT THAT EXPENSIVE BOUT $400-500.... BUT LIKE SPICE 1 RECORDED HEAR AND SOUNDED JUST LIKE HE DID WHEN HE WAS ON JIVE.... IS IT CUZ I KNOW HOW TO USE MY EQUIPMENT AND KNOW HOW TO MIX, OR IS THAT JUST A UNDER RATED MIC???

Like we all know... just 'cause an Engineer has access to good gear don't mean he's gonna be a good engineer. Likewise... if an engineer knows what he's doin, then you can bet that cat can make "bargain" equipment sound like it's more than it is.

If you've got Spice1 and other folks doin their thing with good results on lower end gear, I suspect it's more your engineering and the artists ability than it is the gear. I haven't heard the Marshall, but regardless what Mic ends up in your Mic Cab... the better your signal chain, the better the sound. With that said, if I'm the one spendin... I'd save up the bread and move up to the next level of mic.

i got rodes' nt 2 mic. it works good for the price it costed $450.00 .i bought it in 98 so it should be much cheaper . im tryin to get a better mic as soon as i gots sum money . at first the mic was the shit but now im starting to not like that its not warm enuff. so all you producers might feel me when it comes down to a mic or any equipment after so long of wokrin whit it that you start hearin there flaws. its a dope mic to start off with i recomend it. the more it cost the better
