if you wanna be a rapper when you grow up your fucked. search for your other talents if you have them

producers got it better. as long as you understand how to structure a beat, sequence, so on, you can adjust. if your musical horizon is broad you can produce other genres of music. but if your a "bay" producer than you fucked your self for not being musically open.

listen to other shit people.

That makes no sense whatsoever. If you're not in it for the money anymore then you should give the music to the fans for free.

And IMO that whole line of thought is wrong anyway... the #1 key to success is actually being yourself. Look at Los Rakas... they didn't get where they are by being wannabe mob rappers or wannabe backpack rappers, they got where they are by bringing their spin on the rap game. They're arguably the largest success out of the Bay Area in the last 5 years other than Lil B... that didn't happen by accident.

Here's how I view it:

- If you're looking to be major, think major. Production wise, my competition is not those who are regionally successful, but those who make an impact on today's music.

- Keep a strong work ethic, and be consistent. If not you, it's going to be someone else that takes that opportunity at the door to success.

- Get your priorities straight. If you're serious about your music, do whatever it takes to get some type of progress in. If you can't manage your time and work, get someone that will.

- Be patient. This shit is not overnight, let alone a couple years. Sometimes shit will fall in your lap, sometimes you will have to persist to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

- Remain humble. Don't ever think you're entitled to anything. I can't stress this one enough.

This is the shit I tell myself all the time at least.

Lets see, I want to take the couple thousand of dollars I have to my name and make a cd. I dont want to pay for beats but rather get them however I can for free. I want to record and mix all my music because I am independent. I will do all the artwork too. Then I will press a 5,000 flyers and 1,000 posters, 1,000 cds and blow up. When I dont I will start posting on message boards asking why is the "Bay" being slept on. Why do they play that garbage on the radio? Why does real talent get overlooked? Fuck Big Von. And oh yeah, fuck siccness.net, they arent making or breaking me!

*turn your sarcasm meter way the fuck up*

I have to say, blaming fans is probably the lamest excuse I've ever heard. If it comes to blaming fans, 1. Your music isn't appealing, and 2. You don't have solid fans. Reevaluate your situation instead of finding someone/something to point a finger at. This is the DIY generation... c'mon now.

I have no plans of making a living off music - I barely buy CD's why would I expect someone to buy one from me haha... I just love to fuck around with beats, and rock parties when I can.

If I know people are getting down to my mixes, and enjoying themselves and they look forward to the next music I put out, then that's all I care about.

I owe it equally too Ap9 and the other figs i did production for, Baby Bash, Jay Tee, Mac Dre, S.B., Yukmouth, Agerman, ect ect. I think my fan base comes from all over because of the work I put in and i have worked with alot of artist.. The credit list is big homie.

If you build a legitimate fan base then you will be good. You can do that with out features, you just have to be THAT GOOD, have a great stage/live performance, and have someone on your team following up and getting the contacts of everybody who comes to support you..that shit will snow ball and become something bigger then you dreamed of....its very possible but you got to have those elements - Good performance/live show, good music, and the follow up to get those people back to see you....(this will create a fan base that grows and that how a buzz starts)

p.s. once it starts to take off now you need merchandise cause thats where you will make some good money.

If you think you can have a career as a Rap singer with just cd's, free downloads, computer promo, and no performances then give it up. Performance is key today because its all about visuals...these kids want to see what the fuck there listening to.

smh @ Pissed off bitter posts, it's damn near sad and it needs to stop. Nobody needs that kind of negative energy around them and you wonder why you're at where you're at. Pull yourself out of that shit. If you were making good music you would not be ranting right now and to say fans dont appreciate quality is straight bullshit. No excuses. my 2
