Clearing up The Source's mess
The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards 2000 will air as scheduled Tuesday on UPN, despite the fact that the show was cut short when fights broke out during the taping Wednesday night at the Pasadena Civic Center. David Mays, founder and publisher of The Source, announced that UPN will tape several performance and award segments to complete the two-hour special. Meanwhile, some of the rumors are beginning to get cleared up. First of all, DJ Quik was not arrested. Police did take him into custody before the show after he tried to break up a fight outside, but he was released shortly afterward. Another beef between the Outlawz and the crew representing Bad Boy was broken up by Don King. Davey D, one of the few credible hip-hop journalists who actually had a seat in the auditorium (most of the media, including The 411 Online, was horded in press rooms in the convention center next door), reported on his web site, DaveyD.com, that a confrontation between E-40 and Mack Minister, who appeared on 40's 1996 album, Tha Hall of Game, escalated from verbal to physical after Mack Minister pushed 40 and snatched his chain. E-40 had been talking to the Cash Money Millionaires before the scuffle, so many believed that the beef was between those two camps. Juvenile, Lil' Wayne and the rest of the crew were highly visible in their white t-shirts, especially to those watching the live television feed on the press-room monitors. Treach, who was speaking in the press room as Doug E. Fresh attempted to calm the crowd, called the incidents minor. "They were just slap-boxing," he said. "Don't take it somewhere it wasn't. Don't blow it up no more than what it is. When there's trouble, you see 15 on one side and 20 on the other. You'll know it's trouble, 'cause all of y'all will be running out of here. C'mon, it ain't nothing big." Well, shortly afterward 15-20 men allegedly affiliated with Death Row and dressed in red shirts with pictures of Snoop Dogg and the words "Dead Man Walking" rushed the stage, bottles started to be thrown, the show was called off, and, as Treach predicted, most of the press rushed out of the room. The 411 Online attempted to speak to several artists outside the civic center as police surrounded the building and helicopters flew overhead, but no one would comment on the incidents that took place. There were reports that Krayzie Bone had been injured during one of the other fights that broke out, but a representative from Ruthless Records said he was not involved in any of the altercations. Lost in all of the mayhem was the fact that Dr. Dre won or shared five awards, including the lifetime achievement award. The 411 Online has plenty of pictures and interviews from the event, so be sure to check back during the weekend.

i think this is a bad idea. they don't like you so you're going to try to ruin their party? that sounds very immature to me.
This not just about me homeboy, its about the West-Coast. How you from Oakland and you don't feel a nigga on this shit? When the last time they really honored or payed attention to our artist and views on hip-hop besides exploiting our negativities. Last time explaining this shit...

@ COOLIO right idea wrong motive

MLK & MALCOLM X ALWAYS had nonviolent protests & boycotts. Do yall niggaz really haVe unity & organization? If not, the only thing you'll get is chaos and innocent folks gonna get hurt. BET is owned by white folks. Them niggaz don't give a sh*t about EAST,WEST,NORTH or SOUTH. All they care about is green. It's one thing to boycott for a cause but nigga you starting a riot cause them niggaz is gonna get loaded off whatever they smoke or drink and f*ck it up for everybody. Niggaz got kids, mommas, fathers, and bills to take care of. Why resort to violence & get a felony on ya record over some pussy sh*t? UNITY is the best way fo bring attention. Half of yall don't like each other and won't do business together. Is that BET's fault?

When MAC DRE was alive that nigga came up on his own and brought attention to a whole region when no one else gave him a chance. I don't ever remember hearing about him boycotting BET,MTV the punk a$$ radio stations, etc...

YUKMOUTH, CBO, SEAGRAM (rip), SNOOP, PAC, NWA, 40 & THE CLICK, MAC DRE(rip) and a few other westcoast rap cats never gave two sh*ts about pleasing the masses. The music speaks for itself. All them niggaz got timeless music. In 20 yrs I can put on the "THIZZLE DANCE" or "GIN & JUICE" and have a good time. I can put on TILL MY CASKET DROPS 11 years after it dropped and the music still is dope.

Half of the niggaz who could have had some major breaks on the left coast are on DOPE!!! Who wants to do business with a feind or junkie!!! Look at AMY WINEHOUSE!!!

Call DR. DRE & ask him if he's going. DRE has never openly dissed or boycotted BET & he's supposed to be the westcoast shining light. 40 was all over BET & MTV when "TELL ME WHEN TO GO" dropped. Don't cry over spilled milk. Make yo sh*t pop off and when it does them niggaz will flock to you. Until then, get ya mind right.

One love to all those who support this, but I see this heading onto a different direction on this site. We are going to Protest the Awards for the sake of the West-Coast as aforementioned. A peaceful yet visible demonstration, in no way am I trying to use violence as a means to get my point across. The Boycott will be by those who normally would watch the program on television. I did come off as if I was meaning crash the awards ceremony in a violent manner, but when I say I will go to my grave for this, means I will fight for the cause even if I had to die. I and many of the artist on the West-Coast has been successful for years without the help of any television, radio or press. I've sold more CDs on the streets than out of any store. The issue is not "Fuck BET", the issue is protest & boycott the "BET Awards" until they show the West-Coast talent old & new some love in our own backyard. The same as the oscar black out a few years back. Some might not feel this, but thats your opinion, just as this is mine. This will be organized and not some riot waiting to happen. So once again forgive me if I came off as if I was going to shoot up the awards ceremony. I will be keeping you all posted on the full plans and details of this by months end. Stay Cavvy and West-Coast keep making great music...I still & always will have your back... -Da'unda'dogg
