I seriously doubt that marijuana will be decriminalized across the country. Too many big organizations have too much to lose with the prohibition laws in place. I mean, if the DEA really wanted to stop traffickers from coming across the borders, they would. I'd bet my left nut that the US government is making a killing in kickbacks from several of the major drug-industry countries.

On top of that, politicians are afraid they'll lose support with all the right-wingers and those in the law enforcement sector. Cops think that they'll lose their jobs if they can't bust 16yr-old kids with joints and send 'em to prison for fifteen years.

This doesn't really mean anything. When folks get caught up for possession or related charges, they're charged under federal and state statutes.

TRIPPIN HARD. Its 20 years for a dime bag player. Vegas, or maybe it was nevada altogther had a measure on their ballot last year to legalize it, stating that they were waisting tax dollars on all the guys they put behind bars for a joint.

For whatever reason the proposition failed misserably... really bad like 80% opposed
well.....ure halfway right....
for the longest....u could have gotten serious felonies for just possessing a joint.....
but as of 5 years ago.....u have to have over a half-ounce before u go 2 jail....
otherwise its just a misdemeanor....
if the weed heads wouldve gotten off their ass & voted,
we couldve walked around with 3 fukin ounces before we even got a tiket!!!

I wonder if a state could just say "fuck you" to the feds and legalize the weed. Then they could sell the weed in state-run stores, similar to state-run liquor stores, and make money from the taxes and whatnot. They could use that money to make up for what the feds stop giving them. I'm sure it wouldn't be equal, but it'd sure be nice to see a state try... then others would follow suit.

How does Alaska get away with it?
